DETAILED DK2 SETUP

Also, for those who cannot launch Elite after 1.1 patch who own an Oculus Dk2, I've found out that you need to unplug your Oculus to launch. What I did was unplugged my Oculus, clicked launch then Immediately (as fast as I could) plug back in my Oculus to my GPU. It launched the game then I went to the options and set it to Oculus with heaphones. Haven't had an issue since. Hope this helps some one out there.

This probably doesn't belong here but I was also wondering, how do I get my signature working. I've already uploaded it but it doesn't seem to be posting with my posts. Any help would be appreciated.

If I let NVidea experience optimize my game it looks pretty good although it is setting me at DSR4. Has anyone found any little tweaks to what this program sets up when you let it optimize?

Just an FYI, for those of you who don't know (I didn't)

Have the game open up full window, then use Win-key/Left Shift/Arrow key to move the whole window to the next screen. This helps keep the graphic properly centered and get the whole screen over.

This works perfect for me.

Strange, my O.R. only works in Direct HMD access... I've tried the extend desktop to HMD but to no avail... Works flawless, the only problem is the latency.. I use an AMD 7800.... Can I reduce the 'blur' when moving your head by buying a newer card?

I would add this: raise the resolution over Rifts native 1920x1080 and disable Antialiasing. Can't see my numbers now, I am at work, but something around 23xx x 12xx as resolution without AA looks much better than native 1929x1080 with AA. Try it and be amazed.

@vangel it doesn't offer any higher resolution than 1920x1080 in the dropdown for me. I'd love to try it though. What am I missing?

Sounds like he is using DSR AA available from nvidia drivers.

ok... something I have noticed about running the DK2 in Elite is that because I have to set the Oculus Rift to run in Extended mode the Low persistence mode doesn't actually work. This is easy to test... here is how. (Before you read on please understand that I am running at 75 Hz the entire time... all motion is very smooth... just blurry)

Set the DK2 to run in Extended mode... launch the Desk Demo from the DK2 options panel (I forget the name)... Notice that if you move your head back and forth anything in motion looks really blurry... Now, exit out and set the DK2 to run in Direct mode... Launch the Desk Demo again and look back and forth... It has way crisper motion with little blur. I am seeing the same blurry motion from Extended mode in Elite Dangerous. To me this means that Low Persistence mode is not working in Extended mode with the DK2 even when you are running at 75 hz.

Has anyone been able to force Low Persistence mode on while running in Extended mode with the DK2?

hard to read

Hey everyone. After 8 painstakingly hours of trying to get the dk2 to run I finally got it.

Although I got to play ED with the OR, I've noticed the graphics don't look as nice as it was previously through my monitor.

Now it looks sorta "rough" and I can kinda read the words. Kinda. Is this normal? I mean heck, its still awesome but is it suppose to look like the way it did on my monitor? (With the understanding that there is screen door affect due to the OR)

Alienware x51
I7 quad
Nvidia gtx 660
Windows 7

No it won't look as crisp as a monitor. We're not there yet. :p

As well as the screen door effect, it's also fuzzy sometimes.

Best way to read text is to change your colour scheme to predominantly Green, and lean in. Also, lean back far in your chair and reset the Rift (F12). That brings everything closer to you when you go back to your regular seating position.

It helps also if you've set up your IPD beforehand too in the Oculus tool.

*I'm not sure if I'm posting incorrectly I do apologize*

Thank you for the reply. I forgot to mention I'm not too savy on PC's. I'm just stepping out of the craddle. What is IPD?

Also are you guys seeing some shadowy shades in the cockpit?

IPD = Inter Pupiliary Distance, in other words, the distance between your eye pupils in millimetres.

You can get this from your optician, but in the Oculus configuration tool there is a utility to measure it for you. This needs to be set up for your eyes for best results.

"Shadowy shades" could be caused by not running at 75hz.

Ipd got it.

For some reason i can't set pass 60hz. On the graphics settings on ED I set to 75hz but
On when i right click to set display settings and right click for properties, 60hz is the maximum I can get.

I have one more issue for now, my wallpaper is the alien face in the middle of my monitor.

When I look through my OC, I can only see half of its face through each eye. It really bothers my vision. (Playing ED is normal)

Your desktop isn't 3D so you won't be able to use it with the Rift. Everything will look odd through Windows. There are 3D desktops you can get... take a look on the Oculus share site.

As for the 60hz thing - are you sure you are selecting the Rift monitor (make sure it is set to Extended mode rather than Direct mode) in Display properties? You should be able to set the Rift monitor to 75hz. You might also find you have to rotate the display, but I'm guessing you've already done that part since E: D is working for you.

Thank you. Yes its setbto extended mode. And when I right click on monitor 2 (rift), properties, monitor, I have a tab when I click on it its empty. No selection to any hz. I'm going to have another look tonight and I will report. I greatly appreciate the response from here.

I am astounded by the beauty of this Sim. Its unexplainable. The cure I've been waiting for since rogue leader. On GameCube.

I need to fine tune things a little and it will look better. One thing I noticed after docking, all works but when i try to lean I don't have that 3d effect (nothing approaches me when I lean) I closed the game and going to restart to see.
