Dev Diary? Q&A Stream?

Hi Frontier,

Amazing game you are creating here. I am really enjoying myself in the alpha version.
I was hoping you could do another Dev Diary to show off what you are currently working on, or maybe a new Q&A stream?

Keep up the good work!

I'd love to know a bit more about what's going on, but at the same time I'm content with what we have for now. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs took a cheeky weeks break after the Alpha was released and are starting to compile the bugs listing now. I certainly would have done!

They've excelled themselves with what has been delivered so far but they have almost shot themselves in the foot with people wanting updates and more content already - the game isn't out for quite a few months yet!!

I haven't run out of things to do yet in PlanetCoaster and that's with the content we do have!! I'm happy for now, but very intrigued to see what's around the corner when they are ready to share!!

The first Alpha was only released a while ago so give it time. They will add content in small steps but i rather expect optimization first rather then actual new rides and mechanics.

I'd like to have more information, but I'm impatient by nature, LOL. I was Amazon Prime's first customer [wink]
They've been pretty quiet since the launch, but I know they're working their tails off (how many patches have we received already?).

You're getting mechanics and new rides as a priority first to test systems since the Alpha is all about getting new features in. Optimization is a last priority but i'd expect a little but not alot till it hit the Beta where the game will get tons of passes concerning stability and such.

I think frontier mentioned that they will have a new phase every 2 months. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure they said that so there should be updates soon!

Not all of us are asking for updates. What we really want is more communication from Frontier...

Yep, it's all gone veeeeery quiet since the release. Clearly devs are all hard at work implementing new features and bugfixing (and that's understandable) but it would be nice to get a brief synopsis from the community team as to what's going on. In particular how they've taken the feedback so far about the path and modular building systems, and what (if any) their plans are for them going forward. Part of making the Alpha phase successful is engagement with the community, which encourages us to keep giving feedback. If it feels like said feedback is simply going into a black hole, it'll tail off and start becoming less of a useful tool.

Good summary, I think the same thing.

As a game developer, stacking feature after feature on top of each other and do the optimization at the very is far more difficult then just to add something > optimize > add something > optimize etc, i still have a prototype of a game laying around that is basically unusable because of the lag.

I must admit it's a little "radio silence" for a while now ... which is not usual here [blah]

+1 !

Good summary here !

+1 Wish they would communicate more too.

Just give them a chance. There have been quite a lot of bugs to sift through and all this will take time. Frontier are not like Atari, who JUST DON'T COMMUNICATE period! As soon as Frontier are ready to give any more information, they will do. They will more than likely be putting out another live stream within the next few weeks, before the next phase, of adding more content. You need to be patient, they know we are all eager for more information and they will give it to us when they are ready. Just be thankful, we have a pretty decent early access, to keep us amused, which can only get better over the coming months. Chill out and relax [cool] we won't have to wait much longer for any more news. [yesnod]

We're quite busy with Planet Coaster right now, there's a fair lot of bugs to get fixed and such. [yesnod]

Thank you Brett, when you get old like I am, you seem to have more patience, than a lot of the younger ones, who seem to want everything at once. Take your time Frontier, I have every faith that you are working hard on this game, to make it the best ever Theme Park Game. [yesnod] [yesnod] [yesnod]

It's not so much about patience, I'm happy to wait for updates to the game. I just think the devs have an opportunity here for real community engagement. Effectively all I'm looking for is someone to come on with a post saying "we've heard what you're saying about the game, the feedback is excellent, and here's what we're thinking about regarding the points raised: [...]". I know that everyone is uber busy, but an hour out of someone's day should be achievable.

Frontier do quite well with this on the Elite forums. Sandro Sammarco in particular is very good at popping up now and again to explain where their thinking is on various contentious matters. That's really all I'm looking for here (though obviously not Sandro because PowerPlay balance and Community Goals probably aren't going to appeal to this particular audience!).
