Developer Journal: Facilities

Another really nice feature. This is the kind of realism I love to see, where "backstage areas" are functional and add something to the management aspect. I rarely see this in building and management games, in most it's just building in the 3D world and managing it in the menus. But now you have to actually use buildings to manage the park. Loved the restaurants, hotels, and staff buildings in Planet Coaster. Love this even more!

As per one of my General Forums topics, one of my guests wished to go to a First Aid Facility. Either heat exhaustion from that 37C beta map, or the glass cracks from water pressure. Or Nausea from rides. Or Maybe Guests trip and fall while running away from animals.

But it’s not listed as one of the facilities in this thread.

To clarify, there is no First Aid Facility in Planet Zoo. This thought was a placeholder thought from Planet Coaster and will be removed from Planet Zoo :)

Oh that's disappointing. Most large zoos do have a first aid station. Human stupidity truly knows no bounds, there will always be scraped knees, bee stings, bruises from people falling off the fences they weren't supposed to be climbing, etc. It is generally also the site people are directed to pick up their lost children.

then maybe in RL the ZOO should remove the first aid to improve the overall mental health of the population. "sorry,we cant help you,but pls dont shake the beehive next time"

Mental health has nothing to do with stupidity. Please don't use it in that context. Mental illnesses are health issues of the psych and nothing to joke about or to use as an insult - just like you wouldn't use cancer to do so.

Well, tbh, if I want to have a first aid station in my zoo, I'll build one. I don't care that it will be a make-pretend building. Thankfully planco people do not hurt themself. ;) Usable playgrounds would be more important to me.

Is there a way that night houses can be incorporated? Pretty much all zoological parks have backstage areas with stables and cages where after closing, animals are sent in so keepers can do what they need to. I know the game ain't going for 1:1 realism but I'd like the option of making things like it such as mesh, bars, etc.

You will need more than one of each facility. Each building only has enough space for a certain amount of staff. Plus, you don't want your keepers having to walk from one end of the park to the other just to use a certain building. I've planned a zoo where each section has it's own staff facilities. Staff will be zoned to stop them walking around the park and wasting time.

I have observed during the beta that even after being in the radius of water treatment plant some bigger water bodies are not very clear and you cannot properly see from the under water viewing areas. So my doubt is that is it a feature like we have to use more water treatment facility for bigger water bodies or it is that even clear water is like that only and nothing can be done about that.

Obviously, multiple keeper huts, power facilities, water treatment plants and so on are necessary to be placed strategically all over our zoo for it to run efficiently.

But what about quarantine and even more both research facilities? Does a zoo benefit from multiple instances of those? Or is just one workshop and one research center necessary for optimal progress?

The need of second quarantine depends on size of your zoo. If you have many animals there could be 2 of them sick at the time so you will need one quarantine for both. (I'm not sure if there is just one place for an animal in quarantine, correct me if I¨m wrong)

2 or more workshops or research centers gives you the option to research more things at the time. One mechanic occupies one workshop when he is working. But Vets spend also some time in the habitat studying the animal itself so the other vet can use the centre in the time that the first vet is in habitat.

In the Beta at least, there was a small and large quarantine building. The small had room for 8 animals, and the large had room for 24. There might still be value in having multiple quarantine buildings if your park is large, though, so it takes less time for the animal to be carried to quarantine if they're on the brink of death.
