Development Update 1 - June

The planet tech one is probably going to be exactly that, if an elegant solution is found!
The others may be not quite so major, but, being honest, I have no idea as games programming is not my forte - I must be one of the few non-AAA developers posting here ;)
Dude, you haven't played my text adventure, Fadeout on the C64, created with the Quill? Commodore User gave it 9/10 - Odyssey can't be much more complicated! :)

There's one: They currently don't have a definitive long-term roadmap. At that point it becomes clear to me that Odyssey is feature-complete. I mean they already had many opportunities to tease us with new stuff, so they simply don't have anything to tease us with. It doesn't mean they won't add new stuff to the game, they just don't know yet so they can't talk about it.
Yeah, that's the take-away here. If additional features were already planned, they'd be listed at this point, even tentatively.

Odyssey really is just an okay FPS bolted onto a good space game, for the foreseeable future, and it's time people stopped expecting differently. FDev have their hands full making what they've already got work properly, and then releasing onto consoles.

So....

  1. Improvements to lighting - We fixed it!
  2. Degraded terrain textures compared to Horizons - We're still working on it.
  3. Planetary features that appear to repeat - We don't know how to fix this.
  4. Anarchy factions and the BGS - We think we've fixed it.
  5. FPS performance in Odyssey - We're still working on it.

Is that right?

Cheers,

Drew.

So looks like they admit the outfitting UI was pants and are making big changes: "Redesign of ship outfitting interface"

However admitting that the planetary update is also pants but not reverting that is a bit of a disappointment. The cookie-cutter planets are a huge turn-off.

So what is patch 5 bringing? or did I miss something
Maybe it's my misunderstanding, but I also concluded after SC news yesterday that the Patch Notes should arrive today to give us more time to digest and know exactly what to look for once U5 hits the game...

FD have 'remeasured' Powerplays further roadmap:

Can't wait until team missions show up.
Also, I just went back from 2 weeks-long explorations in which I landed on about a hundred planets and didn't see repetitive patterns on a planet being so apparent as some people state.
Maybe I just didn't see them without giant red circles around them, but I can honestly say that it is not a problem for me.
Having Planetary Work all the way to the right makes texture streaming much better and I don't see pixelated/ minecrafty terrain anymore while approaching it.

I took a lot of amazing screenshots and fell in love with new planet tech.
Kudos to the development team for that.

The amount of things seems to be the biggest problem for me.
I like the content that we have so far, but in most cases, I did it enough times that it's no longer a challenge for me.
I feel like the missions and on-foot activities that we have now are not enough to keep me entertained for a longer period of time.

Being able to swap components between weapons etc. would increase replayability as I could spend a lot of time trying to find a perfect combination of mods.
As I cannot swap them, it's too much effort to test a weapon with different mods so I basically made every weapon in one way and won't try to experiment with other combinations.

I would love more weapons and grenades types so I can play and experiment with different setups. That alone would add hours of replayability to the game for me.

I would also love harder enemies as an option.
Even harder type of Conflict Zone with enemies being deadly precise, reacting super fast, and maybe being better than my team so I have to carry bots that are on my side?
Also pro-scavengers, just like with pro assassination. having mission to kill scavs that are well equipped, even like High-intensity CZ, for a bigger challenge would be a great thing IMHO.

I hope many of those things can be done fairly easy, just by tweaking some values and those would let me have more fun with existing content for much longer.

So....

Cheers,

Drew.
6. For the future of the game - we don't know where we're going with the game yet.

Lolwut?

That's it?

'We erm, need to work on a roadmap, these fixes are derailing our plans'? Those plans are not, and could never have been realistic given the state this launched in. Management have seriously done a very, very bad job here.

This game is going to continue haemorraging players for some time I think. You borked it, guys.
