Development Update 1 - June

You're correct, it's also not the "lets imply thats there a dev stream going on" thread (which is really a stream for promotion of a lbgtq charity), which is what your moderator did earlier!

Moderators should know better.
We are NOT employees. We can moderate the forums and moderate streams. We have nothing to do with the inner workings of frontier and what they do. We'll leave it at that. We are free to do whatever we choose or have the time to do.

Every stream is subject to change.

I think Arthur did answer that, when he said they are looking for remeasuring their roadmap, instead of leaving us hanging here as originally planned... in other words, they don't know yet
If this is indeed the answer, then it is absolutely not acceptable that a company like FDev cannot provide a simple 'Yes or No' answer to a question like this.

A question that has been sidestepped since the Roadmap post.

I think it has something to do with three years of waiting and the money paid, followed by a bad experience from using the released product.
I do not understand why it is so difficult to come to this conclusion.
I had this conclusion months ago during alpha. Now we're pretty sure they are aware of the poor state of the engines and they take this seriously (i mean, not just release dirty fixes to look good), i don't understand why not to move on.

No? Why the hyperbole?
Because at this stage, iI don't really see what else they could do. Switch the game to Early Access ? I don't know what the legal consequences would be and i highly doubt that FDev is strong enough to take that risk. They're already struggling to allocate enough resources to ED development and clearly this wouldn't help them focus on the game at all, quite the opposite.

But certainly rather than try to wrap their bug fixes as additions to a successful launch, they should be forthright enough to say 'this should not have launched like this, please bear in mind the product is under further development'. This hasn't been a deployment / user platform set of issues, there have been deep-rooted issues with the actual product.
This ?

And as such, I'd say we'd not be unreasonable to have some sort of idea what exactly they're working on - we've paid for it already.
They work at understanding what's wrong with graphic engine (perf and contrast) and planetary tech (pattern) and how to make it work. They can't be more specific as they still don't have a clear idea of why it works so badly.

The way things are; FDev have become CIG only without the development transparency and with an added bait and switch*. They've taken money in advance of viable product. They've stated the alpha we were shown was a 'slice' of Odyssey (it was pretty much the whole thing).

*: Let's be honest, we should be expecting physical multicrew to work properly. It's an advertised feature.
It is true. And it will remain true for the rest of eternity. Can we now give them a chance to redeem themselves ?

We may, or may not, get fixes and additional content before console launch.
Fixes maybe. Additional content, definitely not (that would be a huge surprise). The game is "frozen" until they finish the engines. I wait to see how they will handle the release of the new version (i hope they will not make the same mistake and use the merge with Horizon as beta phase for console).

They (@Arthur Tolmie ) explicitly told us that issues were being resolved, and at the end of the 'roadmap' we should be happy with what we've got. I'll reserve actual judgment on the product until I've played this release for a good few days.
For me, the final word will be the console release. It's obvious for me that this last patch will not be decisive. The console release and how they'll handle it, will be.

Well, this whole development update, besides the update 5 preview, is about telling us that they still don't know how to handle this mess and to bear with them until they manage to figure it out.

wll do, until steam has finished downloading my new games - then I will be busy playing them. Actually working games.

EDO is still too dark - that was my basic request to make it brighter - did not happen, so i tend to games, where i can actually see something without changing the gamma value.

Or they know really well that they need like 4-6 months of crunching to be able to have a working game ready to be released.
All the patches 1 through 5 and the intermediary fixes seem to me they were only hot-fixes to have a sort of working mess that will held in place until the product is much closer to a finished product an not an alpha-level early release.
AKA the Autumn Release (which might turn into a Spring Release based on the masked hints from the opening post)

yeah, of course they knew it was not ready, that's been clear since they hard split the PC's clients, what i'm saying, well, actually what Arf is saying, is that they are still trying to figure out how to get out of that (i mean, how to actually get to the full release while handling the angry testers)

I don't believe that - if they couldn't figure that out in a month, there are probably not many working on it at all - those might be empty words.

But that's what the gamma slider is for? I mean you basically just said 'My TV is crap because it's too quiet, I should be able to hear it without having to turn the volume setting up.'

Well, i'll just say that i'm still wondering if ED is a primary product for FDevs, or just a famous side project.
I thought that the Horizons sidelining would have ended with Odyssey, but now i think i was wrong.

There's something going on there then, seriously. I'm not remotely enough of a techy person to suggest what is causing your issue on a rig that's clearly superior to mine but I do hope you get to the bottom of it. This is what I'm playing with on the low-rent rig I mentioned.

Nice, it seems some of the lower spec hardware is performing better with Odyssey than the higher spec stuff. The update has relieved things somewhat for me quite well, I can now play in 1080p with SS at 1.5, AMD Fidelity on and SMAA selected, with everything on Ultra except Shadows and I'm getting roughly 40-60FPS in the concourse. Thanks to the AMD Fidelity, 1.5x SS and my decent 2k monitor all doing work to scale up, it looks good too. I'm still getting less FPS than you though, lol

I had to change it for no game yet and I won't do it. It is fine in EDH, and in EDO it is not - that is their fault, not mine..
