While I think you are right about the future of the game, I ask myself, why have they even decided to create EDO then?- Was this more of an attempt to get to something more, but while doing it, they discovered that there are challenges they might not be able to do with their Cobra engine?- But work went into development already and instead to scrap it, they decided to get to what EDO is supposed to be - and stop at that - to get at least something for the work which went already into the development of EDO?Excellent post, my feelings and thoughts the same, just does not matter anymore, ED will be forever on our hearts has a good game that now came to an end!
Just wanted to add that again they are completely and utterly ignoring the crowd on all requests made , because Frontier simply gave up on this game a long time ago and seems as they admit dont have resources to overhaul this game anymore , the main fact is that they simply dont even think on getting new resources or invest further on this game.
As a reminder some of the top 5 features request among community :
- Ship Interiors
- VR full support on foot
- More meaningfully missions (stop the gridding gameplay)
- Multiplayer (more than just 4 in an instance at least 50!)
- More ships , more SRV's, more planet tech (variety and features)
Although as a developer i strongly believe that with the current ED tech and resources allocated to the project, its near impossible to make anything more that they did so far, so most probably only if they started an new ED in a new modern engine from scratch could we ever see this features i such a game.
Unfortunately this only proves that Frontier for a very long time now does not care much for ED and the community and this project is Dying slowly, but eventually will die one day!
Best of luck to all CMDR's out there,
Start evaluating other games and stop wasting time on this one!
I mean if they would just have extended EDH and added more features to it, flesh out existing systems and add more meaningful missions and make powerplay meaningful, they would have made a lot of people happy - and it would have been a lot less effort as well - and a lot less risk than trying to do something, where the outcome was more or less unpredictable. To me it looks like a failed attempt at creating something what is too big for their current engine and eventually not competitive to upcoming games, because those use professional engines with features, FDev can just dream of.
