Development Update 1 - June

Excellent post, my feelings and thoughts the same, just does not matter anymore, ED will be forever on our hearts has a good game that now came to an end!

Just wanted to add that again they are completely and utterly ignoring the crowd on all requests made , because Frontier simply gave up on this game a long time ago and seems as they admit dont have resources to overhaul this game anymore , the main fact is that they simply dont even think on getting new resources or invest further on this game.

As a reminder some of the top 5 features request among community :

  • Ship Interiors
  • VR full support on foot
  • More meaningfully missions (stop the gridding gameplay)
  • Multiplayer (more than just 4 in an instance at least 50!)
  • More ships , more SRV's, more planet tech (variety and features)

Although as a developer i strongly believe that with the current ED tech and resources allocated to the project, its near impossible to make anything more that they did so far, so most probably only if they started an new ED in a new modern engine from scratch could we ever see this features i such a game.
Unfortunately this only proves that Frontier for a very long time now does not care much for ED and the community and this project is Dying slowly, but eventually will die one day!

Best of luck to all CMDR's out there,
Start evaluating other games and stop wasting time on this one!
While I think you are right about the future of the game, I ask myself, why have they even decided to create EDO then?- Was this more of an attempt to get to something more, but while doing it, they discovered that there are challenges they might not be able to do with their Cobra engine?- But work went into development already and instead to scrap it, they decided to get to what EDO is supposed to be - and stop at that - to get at least something for the work which went already into the development of EDO?

I mean if they would just have extended EDH and added more features to it, flesh out existing systems and add more meaningful missions and make powerplay meaningful, they would have made a lot of people happy - and it would have been a lot less effort as well - and a lot less risk than trying to do something, where the outcome was more or less unpredictable. To me it looks like a failed attempt at creating something what is too big for their current engine and eventually not competitive to upcoming games, because those use professional engines with features, FDev can just dream of.

Having read the patch notes there are so many wins you could have said such as the start of fidelityfx integration

Warhammer and F1 must be paying attention and evaluating whether they want to be associated with a faulty business that can't deliver.

This, more than anything else, will be why they should be keen to put these problems to bed. This is a very vocal community, and there is no way these new clients can not have seen the fallout from the Odyssey release. The only way the FDev board aren't panicking is if the ink is already dry on these deals and there is a hefty penalty if either party back out.

They have integrated Fidelity CAS for now on this new patch 5, so i imagine with a little more effort they can integrate Fidelity FX FSR next as they will benefit form it also on consoles, but i imagine they eventually will do this further down the road to Console release!

I love disastrous films, but being a member of one of them, in a sense, sucks. But I paid for a ticket to this Titanic. So you have to drink champagne and enjoy the icebergs overboard.
It's a little known fact that the Titanic disaster was the fault of the passengers who failed to spot the iceberg and report it on the issue tracker.

Then they had the cheek to complain about the lack of lifeboats!

What is it? I just got shiny new 2060, ..should I refund and back to old card ? :D

There were enough for the first class passengers, the other didn't matter at those times.

FSR is amds version of dlss but it isn't tied to any GPUs, so everyone can make use of it
It basically image sharpening like the old AA on steriodsbut since it drops down the resolution comes with a fps boost.

your gona gona improve performance here because the forum dads that have gtxs 650s and intel dual core cpus that have 4 gigs of ddr 3 ram runing at 1200hz cant load the testures ... this is gona keep happening. btw to the forum dads that say they are goan go for sc good luck runing the game with your specs lol
Like console 🤷‍♂️

not happening btw your gona be able to realse the dlc on the console .. unless its the pro versions .. you know why .. unless you legit delete the engine overhaull you did to odssy and derectly back the fps gameplay to horizons you are out of luck and even them i doubt performance is goan improve in the 12v12s frontline solutions... [...] so unless you do some serius programing on optimasation nothing is gona change .
That's why they're going to focus on reworking the graphics engine and optimising shaders until it's fine for consoles 🤷‍♂️

or in other words: There is no plan.
The plan is to take the time to make the Odyssey tech a strong foundation. They can't go further without it. So no plan until this. I think it's brave of them.

I agree with this. FDev must understand that ED is too big to not have dedicated teams working full time on bug fixing, game polishing and engine optimisation if they want to survive to the concurence (and i'm not talking about the Star "Pigeon Bait" Citizen).

Planetary features that appear to repeat (https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/34834)
  • We understand this is an important topic within the community. As mentioned at the start of the article, we want to share the challenges as well as the positives. Investigations are still ongoing, however, it must be said that this is proving to be a very significant technical challenge. At the current time we do not have a workable solution. BUT, investigations will continue and we will keep you updated.
We must somehow find a way of reverse-engineering that mysterious tech that allows Horizons planets be formed randomly and interestingly. If only we had a prototype to work on! (and if only we weren't going to lose it in a few months with the dreaded merge)

100% happy? Which features? Flesh out EDH systems more? But folks are conveying the impression that EDH systems and planets are amazing....you'd risk that? Add meaningful content? Remember how they added multi-crew and wing stuff? Sounded great...but they did in a way that barely anyone used it. Multi-crew used to show the number of ships available to be boarded, etc. They removed that when noone wanted crew, since all the numbers were always at 0. Do you think if they added 'meaningful' anything, it'd be in a way you'd like? They'd market it, buy ED now with more meaningful interaction, and all it'd be is the picture of the faction leader making an expression after the mission, you know? And we'd be like "thats what they call meaningful interaction"?

There'd be pages and pages of complaints and suggestions. That is the true constant here, even if not intended.

To all those people who think that the creation of 400 billion star systems was a big effort - those are algorithms, These star systems were never created and will just be created, if someone enters a certain system. If they would have to be created beforehand and it would take 1 second to create a star system, it would have taken them 3168.8 YEARS to do that. Those are just algorithms, nothing more - so stop saying this is an amazing work done - these star systems don't exist in this amount - they are just algorithms.
Ah yes, 'only algorithms'. They just bought them at the local supermarket I suppose. Who hasn't studied math and physics, its just some numbers man. They didn't make real planets at all.

Like I said, these planets and systems were never actually created - it would have taken them too long to do so. Even if they could do a 1000 systems in a second, it would take them more than 3 years - so don't tell me they have done it - they didn't.

Or in more accurate words: the plan they had is disrupted because they have to invest more than planned in post-launch fixes, and they are currently seeing what adjustments to the plan need to be made.

I don't get why the community asks for updates if it cannot mentally cope with such simple, and honestly fairly logical, info.
I think it has something to do with three years of waiting and the money paid, followed by a bad experience from using the released product.
I do not understand why it is so difficult to come to this conclusion.

I'd really like some graphics optimization getting done. When I load odyssey, and it's settings are on the lowest possible settings btw, my graphics card jumps from 35c to 90c. In Horizons, if I run ultra, it does almost the same, it will hit 85c-87c, but if I run high, it's 70c, and medium graphics, it's rarely 60c and usually 55c. I'm not even loaded into the odyssey variant of the game right now, just the loading screen, and my GPU is at 87c. But if I switch to Horizons, I'm back down to 55c. This is a serious issue with optimization that needs fixed, because when you force everyone into odyssey, if you haven't fixed the graphics optimization, i'm done. I can't risk burning my graphics card out when I am disabled and on a fixed income. And I won't play a game that will kill my card, and right now, odyssey will kill my card.
