What i think will happen about ships is the instant addition of the "promised" five new ones, where each and every would be essentially worthless and not much of an upgrade compared to a sidewinder.

Just so that people don't get the chance of picking something that would be both free and useful.

Ge in your head.

Purchase of a product legally requires it to be fit for purpose.

Kickstart funding is completely optional.

The unfinished result is more disappointing then the game not being made.

You are not entitled to jack for donating money.

You are entitled to legally guaranteed quality if you make a purchase of a so called finished product.

It is not my fault if you paid extra for something that is not finished.

As for the March BETA for wings. All it takes is one critical bug to put that out another month. and then its not far off 6 months by the time it will be in production.

I've got to wonder why some people are here. The game clearly isn't to their liking so perhaps they should go back to Candy Crush or the latest iteration of one of the annual run'n'gun franchises.

I've seen so many games ruined by people complaining on forums until developers change things to the way the squeaky wheels want which usually turns out to be not in the interests of the majority of players. It wouldn't be so bad if they shut up at that point but they just find something else to whine about.

Quite. The devs (and a considerable proportion of players) know what Elite is supposed to be. Like many things, it may be hard to define, but we'll know it when we see it. Right now, we're pretty damn close, with tweaks and content on the way.
Yeah exactly. Why wait for a billion measurements in all directions when a target system is already selected?

That's spit & polish.

From what I can decipher from that - you're upset because you can't help test the next update about a week before some other people?

Why oh why did Frontier remove the neg-rep button. I miss it so badly sometimes...

Hi everyone,

Currently beta testing will be available for those who already have beta access for the main game. For players participating in the beta tests there will be a separate mechanism for playing so testing does not affect your game and that you can continue to play the retail version as well. Options for players currently without beta access to be able to purchase beta access will be available. Details will be made available nearer the time.

Michael

Will there be a Beta Option for us in the main Launcher like there is for the combat tutorial or do we have to install a new launcher and client for just the beta?

Not really. At least from my POV. I play in the Oculus Rift (ED is an amazing experience with it, possibly the best one) but I'm starting to get seriously bored. There is too little to do when "cruising" because the game is so incomplete. I want to be able to review my trading history, compare markets at the stations I've just visited, look for trends and opportunities where I can stick my oar in for a profit. I want to review the news for the system I'm in, and wider. I want to be able to browse my exploration data/map and see what routes I can fly to visit the unexplored systems... guess how much of that I can do? And how does that relate to a sort of autopilot? Well, if all that was in the game then the long, dull as ditchwater, slowdown in supercruise to destination could be appended with a very simply "autostop". So you'd still have to set your course and speed, the only difference would be the auto-pressing of one single button to exit supercruise! That's how I see an "autopilot" - something that frees you from an easy, dull mechanism to do things which are actually interesting and productive. Without actual content though, it's a moot point. But I wouldn't call the request for it stupid by any means. :)

Exactly! Nice to see someone experienced supporting such an idea as something good instead of an "No it will kill Elite!" fanatical reaction we so often get most of the time.
The autopilot would simply be a supercruise speed and trajectory control, so you can do more interesting, immersing, and engaging stuff except stare at nothing.
Hell, even Facebook and reading the forums is more interesting right now than Supercruising =P

Something like this would be nice: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=99691

Is English a second language for you? Genuine question.

If English is your first language, is your comment an attempt to bait me? In which case I would have to report it.

I will assume the former and explain further:
1. I made myself quite clear that I am not happy when the game being released in its current state.
2. The Entitled & Donate related comments are a response to another poster that stated; for some reason a voluntary contribution should trump a legal purchase with all associated quality requirements.

Please accept my apologies - I meant to quote your previous delightful post:

1. Why the hell would I pay more money to play more half finished features? I bought retail and this is not a finished game. And now you want me to pay to be a beta tester! Pay your own damn staff.

2. 6 Months until wings are out????

3. When are you finishing the first Content patch (Release version 1) To hell with further paid expansions. You will not get another penny out of me until the game I bought is of merchantable quality.

Why I find the tone, way, and choice of words of that Moloney guy very inappropriate, I do agree with his point. Paying for "beta access" to a game that has been officially released is very shady stuff -- I get that backers have beta access and this "beta pass" is a way for new consumers to test the new features, but I can't help but feel this is remarkably mercenary. Every game out there on Steam allows you to test beta versions when they have one, and no one charges you for it. I bought the game after it was released, I paid more than some people who bought it in pre-order, and I have to pay *more* to test something that should either be done in-house or offered for free to all players who are interested? C'mon.

This "pay for beta" not only doesn't make sense anymore, but it's a prolongation of the Kickstarter way of developing that should be ditched by now.

However, I am aware that all this writing will change nothing. This practice will continue, and so I wash my hands.

You don't have to pay for beta access, the features will be released when tested.

I agree that the game was released too early with too many features in placeholder status. I also however see the business side of things too. Eventually the only note of that will be here in these posts and our faded recollections.

Exactly my point. You have to buy to test something that is going to be released eventually. You are paying for dust and smoke. The game is out, the beta should be open to all who want to play it. It should not be charged for. That's Star Citizen levels of monetization.

To put this in perspective, imagine if it was EA, or Ubisoft, or a new Call of Duty game doing this. People would be flinging themselves off the walls.

Oh yes! A sell all button for exploration data would be great.

Talking of the slightest of tweaks.. The StarNav has been really useful. I'm looking forward to the range extension. But could you stop it from resetting back to "Economic Route"?

I actually raised a ticket for this a day or so ago - I don't necessarily see it as a bug, but since everything else on the trade panel is remembered, I certainly would like that little option to be too.
