Development Update 3 - August

It's a horrendously glorified and inefficient menu system at the moment. The least they can do is have few enough variations I don't have to hunt around for a minute to find where they've put Pioneer Supplies this time. Once they've given us access to all Odyssey services from our ship, then they can implement a different procedurally generated concourse layout at every station, sure. At the moment massive layout variation would be like the starport menu being in a random order at each station, for me.

Odyssey is kind-of Space Daggerfall, only without the properly large and maze-like dungeons below the base surface.
Odyssey also has space ships. Need for Speed has cars, but it ain't a GTA killer. It's weird to see people believe every announced game that has to do with space is a ED killer. :p

I'm just a fan of space games. Elite seduced me for a while, it is now dead for me following the Odyssey disaster. French corporations full of players are deserted, it's over, even on the forums it's empty ...
Starfield on the other hand is in press 1 year before its release, because it mixes several genres, Skyrim, Fallout in space, a dream for many ...
I'm not going to talk about mods, because the game will be endless.

A lot of people will go on it though:
EVERYTHING the vast majority of the community asks will be in Starfield.
Interior of ships
Station interiors
Cities and communities
Identities specific to each place
Scripted missions (it's so cool the Odyssey tutorial mission that I often hear)
Quality fps (modify weapons etc)
Real choices about the world
etc., etc...
Ah yes, round #144527 of "This next game will have EVERYTHING' everyone ever wanted!!!!!" But sure, Starfield will be a great spacesim for flying spaceships around, I don't think any disappointment is possible at all.

Not sure how old you are, but just some advice: keep your expectations low until you know what it actually is. Don't pre-order. And don't trust anything Todd says. :p

In the sense of Fallout/Skyrim first person levels, sure.

How many planets do you think will be in space Skyrim?

(This isnt an attack on it btw, I enjoy their games, and will buy it. But it's going to be a completely different thing)

New concourses might come with time in the same way they reworked a few of the Ocellus starport over the years.

Right now Frontier doesn't owe you an explanation why they've done what they've done or not done in this case.
True that...at some point, they dropped in those great starport variations...dang, Im feeling needy all of a sudden lol. Currently Im 14kLy away anyways.

True, the efficiency thing is great. And I find the menu access way nicer than other games, with their ridiculous FOV zoom-in, actually.
Funny, I see that opposite...that from the concourse, you should have access to all services/missions, to promote legs use more. From the ship, only ship related stuffs.

I'm sure Starfield will be very good for a story driven RPG. But it won't be a replacement for ED. They are very different types of game.

I'm pretty sure I will also get Starfield, probably play it for a few months until I complete it, and then go back to playing Elite.

Gotta admit that Bethesda has fallen pretty far. :/ Morrowind was peak-beth to me, Oblivion was okay-ish, Skyrim was a good mod platform. Beyond that it was FO4 (mediocre), FO76 (ouch), plus a barrage of 'Skyrim GOTY Legendary Complete Collectors Edition' or whatever and attempts to muzzle the mod community and profit from them.

Weird how the gaming community went from 'OMG Cyberpunk such a disappointment, never fall for past reputations and hype!" to "OMG the endless ultimate awesome game from the makers of Skyrim!!!!!" in the blink of an eye. Gamers really deserve the industry they got. :D

I look forward to the year+ of people constantly mentioning it like its the second coming. Also looking forward to Duck talking it up then quietly dropping it down his by now quite crowded memory hole.

Please do not reuse social hub of stations for mega ships. New social hub styles will be arriving, but not new models. So I hope the models are compatible with megaship styling and not the current season standard. I actually hoped that there would be, in addition to different styles, models of different structures to represent each type of season: a shape for coriolis that felt different on an ocellus and so on.
Currently, if I'm only flying APEX, all hubs are the same, which removes the unique identity of the stations

Prison megaships already have a stub of a social area (just an Apex and the cells you wake up in), and they're nothing like the starport ones. They're much, much smaller and have no windows, but at least they have better performance.

I suspect the other megaship social spaces will be more like those.

Interestingly, the prison interiors have cuttable panels and energy link ports that you can't interact with because you can't use any of your tools in there. I wonder if they had one eye on prison break and on-foot megaship raid gameplay when they designed it.

Only a few systems, enough if they are well worked, and in passing I stress that I did not say that Starfield was going to be an "Elite Killer" but another way for lovers of space, as said above, Google translate is used and greatly distorts the meaning of French + Forum which reacts weird to the ctrl + V of translate from Google Chrome.
