Diagonal Walls (/my thoughts as a beginner)

Hi there, I'm both new to this forum and to this game.

I want to firstly say that I appreciate that it is very unlikely that the topic of diagonal walls has not been brought up endlessly here on this forum. So I do hope that this post at least contributes to a movement of pressure put onto devs to add this into the game!

With that in mind.. What's the deal with no diagonal walls? :O

Planet Coaster has the most revolutionary and advanced build/design system for any game I've ever seen. I'm sure there's some ex-Sims players on here who were as impressed as I was by the possibility presented here. Taking the grid system to completely new levels, it's amazing to see some of the things that have been built by those skilled at the game, and to some extent, even the things I have built myself.

It is of course not perfect, I'm not sure why the game just feels a little unstable to me. I'm not overly fond of the camera controls as they are and feel they need tweaking (For example sometimes the camera moves too fast, sometimes too slow, especially when trying to do minute details in awkward spots, or traverse large distances). Some of the keys also seem unintuative as a complete begginer, but I guess you do get used to them. I also really long for a bulldoze button. This is the first Sim game that I've seen not featuring a nice, easy to access button. I appreciate the way buildings work joins them together (which also poses further bulldozing greivence when trying to delete certain elements en-mass while keeping the grander space).

With all that said, the game is otherwise very impressive. Time consuming, that's for sure.

What are you talking about? You can make walls, and every single other item in the game, any angle you want.

No you can't. If I want to make a wall at a diagonal angle between the two opposing corners of any given grid square, I am unable to do this. All buildings must have square, 90^o corners, with the exception of certain specific corner pieces, which I personally am not keen on using, especially as they too have issues when trying to rotate, given that they can only rotate 90^o, not 45^o as would be preferable.

You just aren't trying hard enough. ;-)

You can't do 45° angled walls on the same grid, because the angled wall piece has to be longer, thus a different building piece. If you could turn a regular wall piece 45°, then the grid changes, and that can't happen. You can make your (any angle you want) wall section as a seperate building though. So you can do it, you just can't do it on one grid.

As far as bulldozing, you'll find the multi-select tool pretty much accomplishes the task of bulldozing.
Also, paths utilize the delete key for faster deletion.

While in the grid, add a wall piece. Separate that wall piece from the current building. Exit the current building. Select the wall piece, which is now another building, that you just separated. Click on advanced move. Change to rotate. Click the toggle button and adjust the slider to 45 degrees. Rotate it 45 degrees. Move it so it aligns with the walls of the other building.

I guess my main complaint in this vein is that we have shorter vertical walls but we REALLY need them to be shorter horizontally. If we did then it'd be easier to have the 45°, or whatever ° walls with less overlap shimmer.

I have a better trick.

1. Place 1 wall (4 meter). set grid size to 2.
2. Place another wall of 4 mtr (or shorter) on the same line, so you have a wall with a total length of 6 mtr and both walls overlapping halfway.
3. split one of the walls from the building.
4. Turn the wall with angle snap 45* (or different angles that you prefer) and advanced move (ctrl x)
5. Move the wall along the axis and it will stay at the right angle with the other wall and at its very edge.

As mentioned, split wall piece from building. Going off grid gives you more control. The wall pieces are designed for quickly making a simple building. If you want more control and detail, you need to go off-road.

OR

Make your own walls with non-grid scenery pieces. The adventure pack has a good selection of non-grid wall pieces. Build it brick by brick if you want. It's possible to make almost any sort of wall you can imagine, including vertical curved walls, custom arches etc.

With "bulldozing", there is a yellow demolish button, which I never use because that's what the delete key on your keyboard is for. Click and drag to select items within a building, or if you're not in building edit mode, then use the multi-select tool and either CTRL-click or marquee.
