Diamondback Explorer boosting with low power distributor

Hey, I currently have a 1D power distributor fitted on my Exploration Diamondback. Of course that's not enough for boosting but how far up do I have to go?
And would it be possible to equip a power distributor that won't boost stock but will boost when engineered? If yes, what distributor would that be?
Has anyone experience with that?

if you engineer a Power distributor you can use a 1D

without engineering you need a 3D

The answer is "no" to the first statement and "yes" to the second

I mean, I have 1D on my DBX engineered to 5G and it can boost approximately every 20 seconds with 4 pips on engine But it could boost even with 4G engineering (though I don't remember how often, something about 25 seconds). So it is quite possible to have super-light distributor with just 1 boost for emergency situations.

As for comfort, well, you may go up to 3D to get boost every 8 seconds.
