Looking forward to the December update when it turns out that Fleet Carriers only cost 500 million. There will be much raging and ranting for all the needles mining grind...
The way I see it, there's a 50/50 chance that:
A. I won't really want one.
B. I'll want one for each of two CMDRs.
But if it's A, that will still leave me with obscene piles of credits for whatever becomes available in late 2020.

Price crash were I parked, off to find another 790K+ station.. of inara...
Tried again today, and again I land with a full hold at a station the sites report ONE MINUTE AGO have a high price of 780k. Find it back down to 345k
So I go back to inara and find the best sell, fly 104ly and second time is the charm. 778k will do for me.
What a pain! Added 30 minutes to my full round trip but that's still 130m in 2h not, too bad for a python.

It's cyclical. Happened to me last week. I waited a few days, it was back up again. No reason to worry. Just sell at the cheap price, find something else to do for the weekend, then go back to painite mining.
156mill per hour of mining... so 5-6 hours per billion.... thats still alot of play time... just mining...

What? No one else is doing it, so while you might not get the best profits, it's more consistent. Guess as a trader/transporter, I think about guaranteed profit, not just raw numbers.

Laser mining in 3x LTD hot spot is still being done yes ... 3 and 2 hot spot LTD as you stated is not as good as the 2 hotspot painite mining per hour due to the default lower level of LTD generation to start with when laser mining...
Well, it exists, and others aren't doing it, so it's consistency vs max profit.
The miners group who keep the miners tool upto date with the prices are doing it daily as are Live streaming youtubers as LTD allow more talk time...
Its done less but is still done and still causes stations to drop Prices if you use the same stations as the miners tool group...
D2EA was just out there on the 27th and showed it of again...

Ok, I admit, sometimes, I miss things. I was only trying to help OP find an alternative. Personally, I do cargo mission between Sothis and Ceos in a Python, but that might only work because I have a high rank with them, although I also think being on the edge of the bubble also keeps prices up.
LTD prices have the advantage that they're not tied to the Pirate Attack state particularly strongly (unlike the 100% bonus for Void Opals, it only gives 20% to LTDs) but instead have a 60% bonus for Expansion, so in a Boom+Civil Liberty+Expansion system they sell for the highest price of any gemstone. Expansion lasts longer and can be repeated faster than Pirate Attack, so that high price can be more reliable.
When I've done core mining I've generally accepted whichever cores I find and end up with a hold that might be split between VOs, LTD, and alexandrite. Each time I've not had trouble finding a station paying quite high for all three at the same time.
This was a fun experiment trying out lasers. It does seem to go much faster. Then again, now that I brought more collectors to keep up with the rate, makes me think I could speed up my core mining by keeping these extra collectors going. I find I'm often sitting still in the middle of the core waiting for my limpets to work.
Only lost 8t of cargo space and downsized my fuel scoop to get and extra 3 limpets at a time into the python so...
Now I feel ok about the miner, just switching the dual lasers for abrasion and seismic, depending on if I'm hitting an ice ring or metal ring.
