Did the ultimate nerd thing

I've got access to a 5 screen (5 x 50") simulator and a 3 x 10 foot back projection wrap around virtual reality suite at work. We're getting so tempted to play Introversion's DEFCON on the big screen VR suite and pretend were at NORAD. :)
*Edit* Haven't quite figured how to smuggle them home yet though...

You don't need a light for your keyboard if you buy one that is has back lights built in I have a G510 loigitech and I love it, I usually set the color of the keys to match my HUD in ED.
RGB Keyboards are a little pricey.
I've just invested in a Corsair K70 Cherry Brown RGB keyboard. If you have the cash I highly recommend them.

Regarding lights, I can recommend this LED strip to put behind your monitor:

Damn you and you links to flashing lights!
After seeing that link I was forced to click buy.
Bought a number of them...then realised I don't have any free USB sockets, so now I need to buy a USB doobry. Damn you. Damn you and your cash draining links!

Hows is that Black Widow working out for you, I was thinking of buying one but I don't like how its all one piece.

Yeah the keyboard is on my "HOW MUCH?" list at the moment - £15 for light up keyboard versus £1 for USB light from pound shop lol (although I admit the light up keys are cool)

I am getting on fine with the widow - but then I have no experience to compare it to as I have never had one before. I can assure it beats an X box controller though.

OK I am not in the same class as you guys but I am doing my bit in my own small way. I have a very very limited budget and am known as general tight ass who has been known to lecture about the disgrace of any computer game or peripheral costing more than £10

  1. Buy the game. (Yes I did that first - make of it what you will)
  2. Buy a new computer to play the game (£219)
  3. Consider trying mouse/keyboard but borrow childs Xbox controller.
  4. Buy X box controller (£25)
  5. Read about HOTASs - think about it - buy black widow (£35 including delivery)
  6. Put up with lots of impertinent questions from my children about spending on a game
  7. Thought my ordinary headphones had broken (they hadn't it was a loose plug) so instead of replacing them with ordinary set buy a gaming headset (£15 - god bless Aldi)
  8. I am working on getting a small light for my keyboard to let me play in the dark
  9. Continue to resist the temptation to look on ebay.

I truly love this game - it is wonderful brilliant magical etc etc.

+Rep because I feel for ya, bro. I know what it's like to suddenly find that you have a game addiction, but the first step is admitting that you have a problem. The next step will be NOT buying the Obutto cockpit that you have just been looking at...

And +Rep to Chummy62 for being a true artist in the pursuit of gaming excellence and immersion. Although that is definitely a T7 cockpit - you need to add lots of blue LED track lighting if you are flying a Clipper, or wrap everything in kitchen foil if your ship is a Python...

The thought of wrapping it in tin foil made me laugh out loud. There is some black walnut, oak and white maple wood. Sanding and using tung oil is more in line for the final finish. Adding LED lights does sound like a good idea. Next thing on the list is to put a shelf in it for a UPS and add more adjustability for the Saitek foot controls.

Pity it's nice wood - you could have gone for the Orca look and stuck shagpile carpet on all the non-work surfaces otherwise. Although the effect may possibly have ended up more "Ford Cortina" than "Rolls Royce" unless you are _very_ careful. Not that I am speaking from experience, you understand!

I would lose my girlfriend if i bought either of those.

The exact reason that I can't have one. But I am so jealous. I keep thinking how I could clear out the spare bedroom, put one of those in there with the three monitors, then build a Cobra cockpit around it out of wood.

No, obutto.com, as well as the distributor site obutto.eu work just fine just now.

Hah, at the time of writing, the UK distributor, http://obutto-uk.com/ is still closed for "maintenance", has been that way since I first looked. I'm glad that your distributor seems less dodgy to you, hopefully it arrives OK, and is everything that you hope for.

(Also, sorry, there are far nerdier things than buying off the shelf gaming cockpits, you're still almost normal compared to some people I know :D)

A
I looked at those.
Didn't have any use for the monitors due to DK2, so last week bought a Playseat Air Force, X55 and Razer Orbweaver Stealth.
Very happy with my flight seat :D
Note: Takes some getting used to since the stick are now down by your side instead of in front of you on a desk.

I don't think this would fit in my flat...

Even if it did, my wife would have nowhere to hide my body!

I bought the volair flight sim cockpit, very similar setup. I don't regret it at all, so comfortable to access my stick and throttle now. :p

Looks a bit like the older (and cheaper) Obutto Ozone Cockpit.

Yep, the UK distributor is gone, you can read a bit about that on the obutto.eu forums.

Camera on my smartphone is broken, won't be getting a new one soon. The main frame is a tank, the monitor stand is a bit less stable, because it's not completely bolted together, but nothing to worry about. It's also spacious enough. I'm 189cm tall, and it's a comfortable fit with the seat out all the way back. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone taller though.

Ordered an Obutto R3volution gaming cockpit....
I hope it's every bit as great as it seems on paper.
I run one.. I love it. cockpit + Rift = I can't tell i'm not in space.

Someone has more money than sense.

399 Euros for a bucket seat and a basic desk. Not even speakers mounted behind the seat.

Personally, I'd be hard pressed to pay 100 for it, I'd even say that was expensive. You can buy a bucket seat for a car and make your own for about 40 at most and that would include the speakers.
