Disappointed

I also want to add my support for you Alien,
I am a new guy treading in your territory, lowering the tone to a level i enjoy, but I consider myself considerate and I like to think a kind soul.

I would really enjoy hearing your opinions and getting to know you and maybe even giving you a few giggles along the way.

Please do give us a chance as I feel we all have a lot to offer each other.. and I am not a troll... I eat trolls for breakfast....well wheatabix mainly..

I would hate to think I could cause you and your forum (it is yours) any ill will or make you feel uncomfortable...

Stick about and please moan your ass off and give us a piece of your mind, I will respect your veiws and I will challenge them should I feel so inclined... but mainly I'd like to get along with you..

And maybe you can fly beside me in ED and watch me wreck ship after ship after ship...

I wish you all the best

That's pretty much what I was going for.... you actually did that better than me Psyko, hat's off to you. And Alien thanks, I agree with you other than the 'won't post much', please do.

Jeff

Unfortunatly without all these newbies....Me included really...There would not be an Elite Dangerous.. :(

We welcomed every pledger on the kickstarter with open arms to raise the money.....Whats the difference now

join and have fun :)

Suddenly one of the regulars whose name, no-one can seem to remember, notices a figure in a dark corner. He starts to approach the sad, lonely Commander Alien, but she gives him a very evil look that clearly says that she does not wish to be disturbed.

The friendly stranger goes to the bar for a refill, and the barkeep consoles him. "She's always been there, not wanting to be a part of the communtiy, nursing that glass with "life" on it, wondering if it's half full, or half empty." *Alien Quote*

I did say after this post of yours, that you had been noticed(and noticed you had been here along time) i was hoping you were going to carry on, and join in the fiction Thargoid Thread some more(might not be your thing though) hope you do, its a bit of harmless fun ;)

The sad, lonely Commander Alien, sitting in the dark corner wondering if life is half full or half empty, may yet have more to in the Thargoid And Fer-De-Lance thread ... who knows?

Soon, many many people pledged their money to the Kickstarter, and I began to wonder "where were all of you during those years we lurked on this forum?, during those years we were laughed at for having the belief a fourth Elite would one day happen?"
I'm sure most of us were lurking around, waiting for a word of Elite 4 even if we did not participate on this relatively new forum. I used to be active in the newsgroups in 1999 and 2000 or so. I even wrote some fan-fic about Frontier/FFE. I wrote a retroview of the original Elite for a gaming mag in 2007 and in several other reviews and articles I've always compared new space games to Elite and Frontier. And I was, at one time, very active on the Oolite gaming forum.

It is undoubtedly true that there was a small community here on these forums devoted to a dream of Elite 4. But it does not mean that those who were not on these forums at the time were not also dreaming.

It is also undoubtedly true that the great influx of new members may have completely eradicated that original community feel. But, unfortunately, that is true on almost every venue of life. Times change, people change and communities change.

Jump in. The water's friendly

Looking forward to seeing you at Thargoids. Remember quiz night is every night. I'm still working on psykokow's riddle.

Its still early in development so I think we all know there wont be many code throughputs as such - but the involvement others are building include concept art and early prototyping/development models in a forum that accentuates community interest bringing me to the next point - this forum is just sad. Its a throwback to the old WYSIWYG forums of yesteryears - i dont even feel like opening the threads since there seems to be very little will in the community to contribute to perceived lack of involvement of the developers/promoters into the community process.

The devs are reading - and they really are, I see it happening - every post in the DDF forum.

Frank my quiz is not a fair one, it is an Australian all male group. Very famous and has many DVDs and albums

I thought of Men at work(dont think it is) am all over the place right now, trying to work it out!!!!

dont be an idiot. I've pledged over two dozen games and am actively invovled in all their community and am coming with perspectives - only to help the game more and neither will I take back what I said !This is just a plea for greater community involvement

too many 12 year olds running about

oh thanks for the kind words, i notice a lot of perspective in them.

don't let yourself be disturbed, troll :D

Bright side of space

So there, I've said it now. This thread is about "Disappointed", and I am. Sometimes I wish the Kickstarter had never happened and we were still here hoping that one day a fourth Elite would happen.

Cheer up mate. I can only imagine some of you guys here have a shared history of nostalgia. And this particular bit of cyberspace must have been a nice hangout. Without an account, I am sure I have ended up here several times in the past checking out the details of Elite 4 rumors.

As for the first poster in the thread. I don't know what a realistic expectation is. Would anything make him happy enough? I am happy with the newsletters I am getting as a backer. From the interviews and info I've seen, I am convinced the 'spirit' is still in the creator(s). And I'm sure they'll make something worthwhile. I'm really in it for the end product.

And I do appreciate the forum members here who dug into online discussions to gather and sort out comments on design, fiction, etc. It's reasonably organized, too. For me that's enough as a newcomer.

When it comes to forums, I'll have any advice on participation. Recent topics often consist of many pages by the time I see them. And mostly someone like-minded will have added to the debate already. So I expect to stay lurking most of the time :)
