DISASTER

Sorry to hear about your loss. RP aside, logging out on planets is a bad idea for two reasons:

1) You may run into a bug where you find yourself inside the planet on relog. Can result in ship damage and / or destruction.
2) Players typically end their sessions before going to bed, meaning you're landing your ship when really tired and barely keeping your eyes open. Bad idea.

Take this as a learning experience and log off in space. Good luck on your travels! :)

I've been making it standard practice to log out on a planet but you do make some good points. I'll be sure to log out in orbit from now on.

It's happened to me before. I got wrapped up talking to someone else and didn't watch my speed on the approach, then because the planet's gravity was too high my thrusters couldn't save me.

At least you can fly the DBX again. I love those ships.
'
Yeah, I really like my DBX. Low price and insurance, good range, decent maneuverability and a canopy I can actually see out of (makes looking for your next scan target easy). It may not be great at other tasks, but as an exploration ship, it's hard to beat.

Been there, done that, lost the exploration data. I was on the way back and had only 5,000 l.y. to go when I decided to take my Courier for a bit of canyon racing to relieve the monotony.

You have my sympathies.

Ouch. Sounds like that worked a little too well...

My condolences, CMDR :(

And this is exactly why I'm glad I'm getting my Sag trip done before Horizons comes out on the Xb1. Because that would be my luck too.

I'm on my way back after about 250k ly so far, and today I did the same thing. Managed to notice the G when I had 800 meters left to the ground, pushed boost with 80 meters left and nose pointed up. Down to 11% hull after that, quite happy that I brought my shields online before "landing"..
