Disclaimer: this thread is for discussion about AI after removing Engineer mods from their outfitting, which happened at the evening of 31.05.2016. If you haven't tried ED 2.1 with NPCs *without* Engineer mods yet, do that and come back when you feel you have something to share. Thanks!

Also yes, not ALL mods got removed, but they usage has been considerably decreased.

As there's now changed situation with AI, let's give some detailed feedback about AI to devs.

Pros:
* NPC combat AI feels and looks human like, it definitely changes from "NPC combat is boring" to "OMG look how they go at each other";
* Lower ranks certainly can give newbie something exciting to engage with;
* Medium range doesn't give you much room for mistakes. Reach too far out, and they will bite you hard;

Cons:
There are some AI bugs, but I haven't seen them myself. Those hopefully will be ironed out;
Modded ships and higher combat ships doesn't have much problem with NPCs, which is balancing issue, but that's for another release;

are we sure this patch is in? I have not seen an official posting about it yet.

That's server side tweak, they didn't need to announce it.

I'm flying in an Adder at the moment, and the AI seems to be about right.

That said, I'm not tanky enough to test the unlimited ammo/no heat damage issues we've seen previously.

Does anyone know how long the server side update will take? Am defintely still seeing AI with engineered weapons. So far the AI skill seems untouched, all good.

Only difference I am seeing is less high ranking AI, Out of 6 interdictions, most were harmless Sidy's & Eagles threatening to boil me up, last one was an Elite Anaconda that that was very challenging to fight in a Python, he defintely used an Impulse attack at one point..

I'm still being hit with modded weapons, so not sure if its in or not. Which is interesting in and of itself: if we cant tell if the horrible problem is changed or not, how horrible was it (the rare 'near-instant death' bug withstanding)?

This AI is devil, absolutely stupid and not fun. The NPC are just program to stay on you're back, not to destroy you but just stay out of sight. And then it just open fire till you die or till you have it in sight. Then the NPC will just try to go on your back. Fascinating, stupid and not fun a at all. The development of this game was taken upside down, and don't have capability, and resources to made this game a game...

So leave it be in the void where it come from.

I didn't notice so much difference other than they feel a little weaker now but probably I just adapted to them so they feel weaker, why on hell they already listened to forum whiners ? AI was perfect, only issue is their ability to shoot railguns in rapid fire, however today I noticed they shoot a couple of times with them, then they use other weapons for a while, maybe they tweaked that already ?

Went from needing to flee Dangerous NPCs in superior ships to being able to kill Deadly ranks in any ship with my unmodded Viper Mk III. Often without dinging the paint.

NPCs are definitely neutered. The AI itself is just fine where it is in terms of aggressiveness and aim. NPCs could maybe fly a little less predictably? It's already really good. But high rank NPCs in small ships could try mixing in corkscrews while flying backward etc. Or some other tricks to evade fire a little better. The NPCs also feel a little squishy. Especially since I don't have any weapons mods yet!!

They're going to need to at least increase the health by 50% once people get better weapons. And have the NPCs not be quite so unwilling to flee. They ALL stay till the bitter end now once they are shot.

I noted that also, but that was in high RES, and while they were modded, there were no couple of shots shields gone types(so far).

The change is in already. No question. Some NPCs still have lightly modded weapons with effects "for coding reasons." It's all in yesterday's announcement. Check the updates forum.

Some server side updates were definitely made yesterday.

Although we (moderators) have seen several posts claiming that people were still attacked by upgraded weapons including one even had the audacity to attack a moderator :eek:, we have also seen lots of posts indicating that things definitely changed (frequency of NPC modifications much reduced and Bi-weave shields spotted in certain locations for example).

Suggest you keep providing feedback on the bug threads and these threads as requested by Zac yesterday. There are obviously several interconnected cogs and wheels involved here so I'm sure it will take them a while to figure out all the causes of which there may be multiple.

Are you talking about harmless-novice or about master-elite AI?

They explicitly mention all combat-specific mods are/should be gone. They are not. :S

As I understand it, most of the NPCs difficulty was in their higher DPS.
Now, after the change I am back to hunting wings with ease, which is a bit of a letdown.

On the other hand, they ARE better than they were prior 2.1, so I'm fine.

I don't know if there different AI from the different rank you have. I had deadly rank. The AI is stupid, it's not fun to just turn around and around for minute, or just make face to face with npc. But this is all about the AI.
