The only real way to test this new Ai and Engineers update is to have a complete across the board character save wipe. And we all start fresh...

Voted Other,

I like the difficulty of the AI as previously it was a joke. But I find its broken atm, I am beginning again due to a technical issue from some time back and decided it was simpler to re-roll my Cmdr. I am in a T6 (shielded etc A Spec'd) and I am being interdicted by a wing of 4+ Elite AI and before I can even boost I am destroyed. (Not in anarchy systems or such, staying in safer systems - Trading metals, minerals and occasional mission, no smuggle or illegal).

I am currently 9 rebuys and approaching life back in a Sidey due to this. I dont mind being interdicted, submitting and boosting away taking fire, damage, being killed at times and what not, but not even having a chance as being destroyed as soon as you drop is not fun. I am Novice combat, and second tier in Trade and Exploration(Sorry cant think of rank names and not at Elite PC to check) so why am I getting hit by wings of Elite AI each and every time I get into SCruise?

I am glad Elite is now dangerous, but it seems like its insanely dangerous where 500 million credit+ ships survive and everything else is insta-gibbed!

Are you pledged? I am not and I don't get any Elite AI squads following me in Supercruise. Could be a reason.

and you have a pure combat ship all the time by sound of it. so basically unless you play elite purely for the combat thats just tough eh? some of us want to be traders and explorers and do missions and OCCASIONALLY have some fun combat. combat is no fun if you have no chance!

i have an asp explorer. military grade armour and top shields. 2x 2d beam lasers and 2x1g multicannons. best powerplant and power distributor, 64 ton cargo hold, fuel scoop advanced disco scanner and detail scanner, i could go on, and yet one npc master took down that shield and then did 74% hull and got powerplant down to 58% in the 30 seconds or less it took from opening fire until the police arrived. i had no chance to damage him. my only option until the cops arrived was flee and i doubt i would have made it. wheres the fun in that? i had 1.5 million rebuy coming out of the 6 million credits i had left after buying and beginning my FAS build - which was wasted by this update because its weak shields mean i would be dead in 30 seconds so the police would only recover me and revenge me.
The ASP is great ! when you cant win a fight in the APS you can outrun anything allmost. so if something does not go your way just leg it.

good then i will quit. i did my boring grind to get the cobra and a more enjoyable one to get the asp and then start my FAS but im not doing all that all over again.

i would not have made it. either he was keeping pace with me and i have the best thrusters, or his weapons had much longer range than they should. and my FSD kept going oflline and online. maybe the powerplant damage was doing something. the police saved me. but it wasnt fun at all.

So the latest "vision" is that nothing will change... I bet to differ, I can't see DB and the team wanting to hurt sales, so something will have to go or be added to please everyone or they face loosing the casuals or the rude jocks.. either way its karma time!

I have never done any grinding.

But thank you for implying that I'm unworthy of enjoying the game I've paid for.

I have already said elsewhere that I was probably a little too guilty of farming RES's myself, & that my rank might have exceeded my actual abilities. There is no shame in admitting it. Why not try asking Support to take your combat rank down 1 or 2 steps, instead of blaming the AI for all your troubles?

Why not just add a "Come At Me Bro" option for the Elite combat players? The default game would be challenging for the average player who doesn't have the time or skill to become an elite combat pilot. If you check the "Come At Me Bro" option you will really be challenged by the AI.

But wait there is more! It also adds a bobblehead in your cockpit if you use the increased difficulty and it will taunt you. If you flee from combat it will tell you to get good. You get blown out of the sky in your Corvette by 3 Elite Battlewinders and it will not only tell you to get gud but it will also laugh at you to give you even more incentive to hone your combat skills.

>>Discuss the AI here! (Stop spamming AI threads)

What does this mean? 1) Does it mean that AI threads are spam? Or, 2) if AI threads exist, you shouldn't spam them?

I ask for two reasons:

1) creating a thread isn't spam, although I can see why there may be too many, but it is not against forum rules to create threads - players can ignore them. Forum rules aren't arbitrary.
2) Is responding to a thread spamming?

I'm not sure this approach is clear or helpful. I genuinely don't understand the meaning of this thread's title.

To celebrate the release of 2.1 I did a soft reset with my second account: I invested all my money in ships until I had not enough for the rebuy, I then took a 17 million credit T-7 and boosted it against the station wall several times until I exceeded my loan limit and started with 1000 credits in a basic sidewinder in Trevithick Dock. I have read a lot about the AI and wanted to see for myself, how a newbie, at least equipment wise, would feel.

I have to say I am impressed by the AI. I voted "just right" but I must admit, the harder ranks are a lot more difficult, but this is how it should be.

I play solo and started by kill stealing from AI cops in a High Intensity RES site. After two hours I now have an almost A-rated Viper III. While it was still C-rated I got my behind handed to me two times, both times I bit of more than I could chew. It was not unfair or unbalanced in my opinion. Here are my observations (with the usual: my opinion only):
-The times when you could watch netflix on the second screen are over, but this is the way it should be.
-You need to be on top of your game when fighting better opponents or tougher ships. A C-rated Viper for about 600 to 800 k does not rule the Haz Res anymore like it did in 2.0 and it shouldn't.
-Don't expect a 3 mio. credit ship (Viper) to win against a 15 mio. credit Vulture if the AI pilot is high ranked.
-On the other hand: 1 on 1 encounters against equal vessels (Viper, Cobra, Diamondback etc.) are perfectly doable. Against low ranks (Expert or lower) it is still easy enough, against high ranks it is involving and doable, not only a mere distraction anymore.

Long story short: I am happy, combat is engaging, I got something new to learn and to adapt and kill stealing from AI cops is still a great an fast way to make money. I expect to be back in an Imperial Courier in no time (although I have several stored because of the soft reset I will not use them, have to earn another one).

None. its not that hard ,adapt. why is that too much to ask? maybe upgrade your thursters I dont know
The NPCs also have upgraded thrusters, so the point is moot. Not to mention that at a basic level, combat ships are just plain faster than trade ships.

When you are in a non-combat ship fitted for a non-combat role and are pitted against a combat ship, you are going die plain and simple, escape is impossible. PvP or PvE doesn't matter.
All that we(me and many others in this thread) are asking is for FDev to reorganize the distribution of NPCs. Keep the high ranking NPCs to HazRES or High Intensity CZs.
No longer have high rank combat ships interdicting traders, explorers, etc.

BTW - if you feel that PP spawns are too much, report a bug on bug forum. It sounds like a good reason for FD to do rebalancing there.

Ok, sleep time.

I think the AI is good in terms of flight and maneuverability, but some of the bloody weapons they get are back to back rails, imperial hammers, all top of the line stuff. I don't mind if they have them but they should scale with their class level of fighting. And another thing to think about is if a new play joins and only has base level ED there is only going to be so many times they get railed to death before they as a new player get fed up and        they just spent $30-$60 on a game they cannot play.

It's easy. The AI I mean. Really easy. Too easy. I'm a casual player. Hardly play at all. But the AI,... Oh, come on. Did you think you'r Eliterank meant something when you were picking off easy kills?

Oh no... They fight back. Woe is me. That's not fair. Well Moany git like me has been waiting for this. Like the original. Go into a violent area; epect violence. If you can't handle it tjen back off for a bit and learn some skills. My combat rank I would describe as mostly pathetic. But I'm smashing the hell out of the 'new' AI.

Dunno how that could be.

Obnoxiously yours as always, Avi x

Still waiting on what advice some of the pros have for a new player who just hit a solid brick wall in terms of actually making any progress. So many experts here and not one has even so much as tried to answer, although a few have complained about the lack of a new player perspective. Well I'm new...so how do I progress when it's take less than a few hours what little I had managed to scratch together over the course of two weeks?

None of the hardcore wanna share their secrets of how they got to where they were trying to survive in an environment like this?

Haha no silly me...they didn't.

So...hows that advice coming along? Suspense is killin me already ^^

Its so much fun , I have been having the best time sins maybe 2003 (from a video game)
SJA is such a good AI coder

Seeing that games like original Elite, Frontier: Elite 2, FFE, X-wing, Tie Fighter and even Doom mentioned here as examples of "harder than E:D", here is what they actually were (and yes, I played them all, hundreds of hours).
— original Elite had saves at stations. Met a particularly nasty pirate? Meh, just reload. Only real difficulty came from endless grind.
— FE2 and FFE let you save and load your game almost everywhere. You could just save scum the game until you get RNG odds in your favor. Also the difficulty came from endless grind but this time there were also completely optional missions where you couldn't just use autopilot, and had to do all the newtonian mechanics flight by hand. For hardcore players it was fun, others could just trade and do missions, occasionally scumming saves. Eventually, once you got some good ship with good shields and weapons, NPCs would be nothing more than targets.
— X-wing and Tie Fighter, both originals and re-issues, were hard at times, but there was a CHEAT MENU built in, so if I weren't trying to "git gud" and just wanted to have some fun, I would turn on invincibility and infinite missiles and just go shoot these star destroyers out of the sky.
— Doom had difficulty levels, was pretty much easy as cakewalk on "too young to die", had quick save and load and also had cheat codes.

These were hardcore, but there always were shortcuts for those who just can't make it. This time, looks like the shortcut would be just buying No Man Sky which is set to be released less than a month from now.

There is a nice shortcut to make everyone happy. Make safe places like high-sec systems and superpower's strongholds really safe. Like next to none interdiction by pirates and lunatics at shipping lanes in Achenar or Sol. No one robs and kills people right at the entrance to the Buckingham Palace or in Kremlin — and anyone stupid enough to try will be apprehended before he can do anything. Attacks at such places make news headlines, they are not routine events. Make outskirts of such places (outside of shipping lanes) and medium sec systems shipping lanes somewhat dangerous with some minor risk, maybe with predominately low-rank NPCs (because if seasoned criminals appear in such systems, police forces get on red alert). Make all other places dangerous, like they are now, and maybe even more in some cases.

In that way everyone will benefit and no one will lose. Casual players can do low profit trading, mining, and courier stuff in high-sec, and those looking for challenge have other 80% of the bubble as their playground.

Fortunately nothing changed for us explorers and nothing will change. Reliably avoiding interdictions on the way back is very possible even now, and those Thargoids everyone is talking about — good luck finding me out there.
