Yes, the AI is definitely broken. Because it is not realistic, it's superhuman.

And I did play Tie Fighter, the whole campaign. The hardest opponents there were easier than Eagles are now.

The AI was broken before, & that has become your new normal. No they are not superhuman at all, as I have managed to kill many of them, even in a Sidewinder with zero modifications. At the end of the day I see a lot of people whose combat rank is far greater than their real abilities, so now they find themselves against opponents they can't handle. Sadly they are too proud to admit this fact, so are probably too proud to ask Support to have their combat rank reduced.

Sadly, the whiners will almost certainly cause the Developers to lobotomize the AI once again, & may even lead to the loss of MoM.

Well here is your problem, you are flying for combat. Not everybody in this thread are combat pilots, some are traders, explorers, etc.
It's these players who are being adversely affected.
The mid to high rank AI NPCs are to good to allow players to escape. And trade ships are useless in combat. Exploration ships are not bad in combat, when they are outfitted for that role specifically.

I'm all for the improved AI, but the implementation needs to be improved.
Traders, while not be entirely free from combat, should not be pitted against high rank NPCs in combat ships, it's overkill.
Combat oriented pilots should be able to stick to NPCs that they feel comfortable taking on. They shouldn't be subjected to any particular skill level because of their combat rank.

Ballance is the key.
Do you go for a fast blockade runner? or a slow moving target that can make a lot of profit , if you survive...

Yeah its still a good ship. its not very good against very fast and agile ships. but its amazing against ships that are larger.
I would go for a vulture.

I want to mostly trade, and do a little light bounty-hunting at nav points, and be able to defend myself against most pirates that interdict me. Now, the 150M I've invested in my python won't let me do that.

It's perfectly fine for it to be hard to nail the little ships down. It's not fine for it to be next to impossible. That's putting 'realism' (as far as such thing could ever be in Elite) ahead of 'playability'.

Tie fighter? C'mon he was saying X Wing vs Tie Fighter it's a whole diferent thing....

and i've flown t-6 , and flown eagles , and flow pythons, if you're in 2v1 situation you die, it's simple, in a 1on1 you can fight any ship. Pro tip, use seekers they do what they are supposed to do now, Damage!
I was talking about tie fighter , or Xwing.
In the hardest setting Tiefighter read your joystick input to make the AI better ,that was hard.

Ah , well I would go for an ASP ! perfect ship for the job.
If you cant shoot it , you can outrun it !

Now that I've finally experienced this new AI I've been hearing so much about from the beta, I find the idea that Fdev would nerf it to be very depressing. I love it. This is the first time I've ever felt like seeking out combat.

They wont , if they make it easy it would mean they lied to the kickstarter backers and betray the original elite gamers.

I managed to play the game for 3 hours in a Sidewinder, & I only got interdicted once.....when I entered an Anarchy system (the interdiction failed). All other combats were ones I initiated myself, & almost all of them were against NPC's close to my own rank. The only time I did badly was when I stupidly dropped out at a Distress call....because I knew it was possibly a trap.

When they outnumber as much as they do, you're not going to win that game.

Hold too small. Next.
You have to pick then.
Either go for the python were running is harder or you go for the asp were running is easy but you haul less.

Because every game needs casuals. 'Casuals' is just a short-hand way of saying 'anyone I think is less skilled than me or spends less time playing this game than me'.
Not really. I think 'casuals' are thrown around here to make us feel bad about people who have little time to play the game.

It's a nonsense though. I have zero time to play this game. Updates like these are periods when I allow myself to give some taste what's new. Still I welcome new AI. I know it will get improved, skill arc will get tweaked a bit, outfitting will be modified too...there's still lot to be done, and all of those changes will swing game one way or another. It will land - in the end - somewhere close to what we have in 2.1 though, but with fairer chance for commanders to survive. I trust FD in long term, and they have never let me down.

What I wanted to say though that this game is not WoW. It was never intended to be massive and popular. FD wanted to have many players, sure, but it was never intended to be mainstream MMO. So threatening to leave and threatening that casuals will leave will just not work here. FD doesn't listen to threats. They listen to proper feedback. For example, PP ships. It seems now they are spawning a bit too intensively and most likely FD will cull those numbers a bit...It is good point that PP will be much harder. They will listen also to feedback detailing encounters - they don't want you to die in seconds if you have adequate ship. "Adequate" here means what they think should be comparable to NPC outfitting. But still...such feedback is very much welcomed.

So provide feedback and stay calm. If you want to throw all toys away, or don't want to adapt to new change - and you will have to, farming NPCs is not way forward anymore - then just maybe put game aside and go outside, enjoy real life, there's so many wondrous things out there...Please don't double down on comparison between hardcore fans and farmers, because there's no such thing. Game have specific design, and it has it's rules. It doesn't stretch or change just because you want it to change. Chess doesn't become easier just because you want to win.

So you're getting a completely different experience to everyone struggling who's not started afresh, and hence unqualified to gainsay what they're been seeing.

Maybe the XBOX players are actually much more capable players than some of the PC players? myself included. Just maybe they like it this way? My 12 year old nephew fly's the cobra like a veteran fighter pilot, Its all natural and he dosen't even have all the toys I got :( its not fair

Just for info....It seems to me that double quoting on the forum is broken.. missing a trailing quote (as above too).

I never said anything about bargain tables etc, I just quoted what was said about the AI getting another balancing pass. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=254585&page=91&p=3961973&viewfull=1#post3961973

Every game is aimed at casuals... there is not a single fun space game anymore.
Elite is my last hope.

Here's a suggestion for FDEV

Put a combat level slider into the game for Single player - if you have it set to less than your actual level then the NPC's you meet are of that level, and none of them count toward rank improvement.

It means we can learn the skills we should have from the beginning without losing credits. As our skill increases we move the slider back to reflect your actual level.

Means that casuals (such as myself) can still enjoy farming RES's and playing space truckers and the hard-core players aren't affected.

i voted other but it wouldnt let me give a reason so here is my reason. i dont mind a harder AI fight. i DO mind them not giving a chance to fight or flee. you should not be losing your shields and 74% hull and 58% powerplant in 30 seconds from them opening fire. that means unless you already have engineer mods on everything and are in a combat only ship fully upgraded, you dont stand a chance of fighting anything even one rank above you, and no wings at all in solo even. scratch that. i dont think even if my rank was master i could have survived that master rank combat ship even if i tried to flee. i was saved by at least 4 police ships. thats too much when you arent looking for combat.

there should be a combat level cap setting i can put which makes npcs in far better ships give me a chance to flee unless i fire on them and prevents my combat rank levelling beyond where it is. there should be CZ and RES where lower ability pilots can go have a challenge not lose their ship in 5-30 seconds with no chance to flee.

or there should be a special account setting the l33t G4m3rZ can apply to FD for that ensures they only ever encounter the elite level, 5 ship wings they obviously want. and once they have it they should not be able to have it removed. let them eat the banquet they tried to ram down our throats. see how long they love it for.

i played the original elite on 3 platforms and the first sequel on amiga and this 2.1 npc while they ones same level and lower are currently ok anything higher is just so far beyond giving you any choice but to try to evade - no scratch that you MUST succeed in evading interdiction or you have very little chance even if you submit and immediately try to flee. the bbc micro version of original elite is only one came a fraction close to how hard this is.
