So you refuse to use the most viable solution to your problem?

The viable solution is to submit, boost and high-wake if I am obviously outgunned - an Anaconda against my Asp is a no-brainer, a viper is OK to take on, an Asp scout that I turn to engage but then strips my shields with two shots of an "impulse attack" is high-wake time. As I said, so far I have scraped-by but these are just single-jump carry-some-stuff middle-of-the-road-rewards missions just to gain a bit of Fed rep to get my status back from 79% (friendly) to Allied. I'm no combat pew-pew guy (and no I have never been to Robigo) but I have been playing over a year so know a bit about how to survive, my Deadly + Master ratings are mainly down to the ships I have been in coping with the interdicting pirates. I have been in two or three CZs, and went to a HazRez and a CompBeacon a couple of times but I am not really into that.

I bought this game (Basic then LEP then another plus horizons) so I have chucked a bit of money (not as much as some) into a game that I was told IN BIG LETTERS that I could "Play Your Way" - now it seems that actually I am not allowed to.

Explain how making imaginary money is fun.

Yes - and now its a game. You now overcoming challenge is sopposed to be fun..

No.

Rofl - you sure you are on the right forum?

You can't reason with people who see the sole goal of the game as making credits (and probably have some imaginary end-game scenario cooked up in their heads, too).

Sorry - NPCs are just way overpowered.
I just had it again - interdicted by a FDL when in my cutter - class 6 shield with 3 class A boosters taken down in around 10 seconds, escaped with 86% hull.

That's only 6-700mj worth of shielding on a Cutter. Not unreasonable at all that a high alpha-damage FdL could strip them so quickly, given how big of a target the Cutter is.

Explain how making imaginary money is fun.

Because that is almost literally the point of the game? I mean, one can substitute money for other things - naval rank, for example. But the point is the same. Most people are working towards...something. And that something requires some sort of currency, whether it's credits, whether it's naval rank, whether it's combat rank. It frankly doesn't really matter what. What you're saying is aiming for any of those things is silly because reasons. Tell that to 95% of the people who play the game. Just because an elite 5% don't give a crap about anything and fine fun blowing up things doesn't mean everyone else should suffer for it.

Challenges are fine. Playing in a game in terror is not.

OK fine. If I want to trade I can make money while almost falling asleep. I suppose I won't fall asleep now because I'll be busy not trying to die, while also making less money. Yay!

Well, if Elite intends their game to be just for people who like exploding things for fun, then maybe it should be marketed that way and not "you can do whatever you want!" Because apparently they're making their game so that if you like exploding things, you'll have a good time, and if you like doing anything else, you live in absolute terror while grinding forever.
Could you direct me to the "you can do whatever you want!" box? That must have some very interesting screenshots

The one I got said "Blaze your own trail!"

AFAIK - and tell me if i'm wrong - there was no *all trails guaranteed to be of the same difficulty level that you can set yourself
Pretty sure it said - here's some concrete boots - there's the pool - there's some training videos and exercises over there - GOOD LUCK :D

In making money. It was already a slog. I mostly switched to bounty hunting to make money just because it was faster (so much for that, now!).

Now it's going to be an even bigger slog...assuming you don't get exploded every other time you go out. Yeah! Fun! Enough fun to make me quit playing even.

Personally after 2.1 released i changed my trade cutter loadout and had a run in with an Elite anaconda , had a tough little slugout as i was constantly being outmanuevred and couldnt shake the connie off my tail so went reverse with full pips to shield and 2 on weapons. With a class 8 shield , 4 boosters with 1 class 4 SCB i had the connie on 27% hull when my shields finally gave out .. without armour it began chewing on my hull with engineered weapons and by the time i dispatched my opponent i was at 57% hull with a breached canopy and badly damaged modules.

A great fight which had me on tender-hooks with not knowing the outcome (pre 2.1 this would have been a decisive victory). IMHO the Ai is about right , though im all for making them play like Cmdr's so long as they are bound to the same rules as the rest of us.

Why - running is still viable...

So prove it...run in a sidewinder with noob fittings and then come back and say running is still viable...it's not unless of course yer a high level player with a high end ship and I would hazard a guess that would be you, yes? Of course you can run...the rest of us can't so your statement is nothing more than trolling new players by dangling a carrot in front of their face before the game snatches it away, and you sit there smugly talking down to everyone from your ivory tower...how cute ^^

They are (other then MC ammo).

When you get interdicted by harmless AI it is still VERY possible. Prove that it is impossible.
Also: I bet you that the guy I quoted does not fly a stock sidey..

Btw, anyone having trouble outrunning after being interdicted, on my second try, I submitted to interdiction, the interdiction was much less severe and I did outrun whoever was chasing me, I'm not saying this is a solution yet, need to try some more, but perhaps others could also try this.
That's what I always do because you don't get the cooldown, but it didn't save me. It normally does.

Probably about that far. Not bad against an Elite modded pilot, what's the worry?

Though I do agree there are probably more mods out there than make sense according to the lore they've put up around the engineers.

A master rated trader is never going to be treated as just a trader.

I'd hope navy rank *does* make a difference - navy life isn't all peeling potatoes and donation missions - high ranked navy folk should be hard as nails don't you think, or it would be a bit odd?

No the Elite Viper was not modded.

I don't expect to have lower rated NPC opponents, I just object to the amount of mods. The fact that my first four missions produced two elite and two deadly NPC interdictors was OTT I felt.

Navy rank makes no difference whatsoever and those "honorary ranks" were gained by trading and all were basically to qualify for ships (OK the Admiral was because they kept throwing missions - I mainly stay in fed space).

Another side note. Seems with the dumber AI we all got up to say "master"...and that equates to running into "master" or higher more frequently under the new system. Which, with the new AI, seems way more intimidating than the old which was just "beefier equipment". That is probably why people are having a harder time adjusting, they are in the middle of a new AI system at a level they weren't actually "rated" to be...not sure how you counteract that.

Evading is more viable ( to me at least ) - but if you have a working solution why are you complaining?

Even in a relatively maneuverable ship, I still evade interdictions maybe...1/4 of the time? It doesn't help when you're spot on the target and they still gain in the interdiction meter. So yeah, I'm like the other person. Auto-submit and run. Except now that's become a slightly less viable option, depending on what you are flying and what interdicted you.

If I was to criticise the new AI it would be to say they and their ships are too good at low ranks. Deadly/Elite then knock yourselves out and they should have bounties to match. But Average to Comptent shouldn't be quite so effective with their controls or have much in the way of modded upgrades.
