Dissapointed with golden Phantom

Hi Frontier Devs,

I usually don't post anything related to skins, kits etc. But I have just noticed there is a golden Krait Phantom in the store for a limited time, showed up today. You are well aware that is an exploration ship. Of course you are, you created it.

Now my question is: Which skin is more suitable for an explorer, a humble, modest, outsider-like entity?

A. Show-off, bling-bling, 'look at me', 'I have money baby' golden?

B. Modest, classic, Amelia Earhart-style silver/chromed?


DW2 starts on 13 January and I was really hoping to put a decent skin on it. Midnight Black is fine, lovely even, but if one wants to take pictures it's rather so-so. And now golden...

If you bought it then LOL, thats your own fault, if you didnt then why moan about it?. There are Cmdr's out there that do like the gold paint jobs you know. There are Cmdr's out there that fly the Phantom and do NOT use it for exploration. Stupidest thread ever TBH.

he isn't moaning about gold, he's just asking for different models.

but that's life, bling and shiny is what kids are after, and that's what they're selling.

My golden Python makes me feel dirty, and I like it (though slightly disappointed in myself).

As for the golden Phantom that is an exploration ship, I've used mine for pretty much everything and anything other than exploration so far, and I like it best as a 180 ton hauler/smuggler with an ability to fight back and insta boost for when things get dicey, although I agree it doesn't look great in gold. I actually like the stock paint on it more than any in store options.

The gold skins aren't the best, but become interesting easily depending on 1) what other skins are available for the ship 2) how many good skins you already have for the ship.

I meant fix exploration.

It seems to me the problem here is the assumption that the Phantom is, specifically, or exclusively, an exploration ship. It goes without saying that applying a golden paint job instantly transforms the ship into a passenger craft. I mean come on....

That's exactly what happened to me when I applied a golden paint job to my Chieftain.

I sometimes wonder if that was by accident rather then design.

I know, it's not an explorer in the strict sense, but it's a response from the Devs to the calls for an exploration ship. Therefore it is an explorer even though you can do more with it (I personally plan to get another one for combat). But if you read the forums and reviews you will see a pattern - is it's best for exploration. Some ppl use DBX against Thargoids, some use ASP for smuggling, that does not make them non-explorers.

And I am dissapointed about the golden skin because if there is so few skins maybe they should suit the ship a bit more. Golden does not suit it the way chromed would. It's a miss in my opinion.

I'm sure it'll get more skins soon.

Thing is these store events tend to postpone "normal" skin releases for whatever reason.

I bought the paintjob a few hours ago but still not available for me.

Krait Phantom in jameson memorial at the moment. With the bugs going on and this happening are your servers suffering contention by any chance?

Gold actually makes the most sense on an exploration ship; there's a reason why NASA use it so extensively. Not my personal preference though, but I don't begrudge others the opportunity to get their bling on. :)
