Dissapointed with golden Phantom

Quite so!
Now Chrome...!

Agreed. I love chrome/chromed/brushed metal ship skins.
I do wish they would combine them with a bit of color, like a few blood-red stripes, or a red nose and tail, like some ww2 fighter planes.

Indeed gold and gold-like materials are used on space probes, shuttles, and even space suits for thermal protection, insulation, and EM filters for visors to protect vision from direct sunlight.

I put it on about half of my exploration ships for this reason, or white paint.

I have to disagree with the use of gold by NASA. Shuttles were white/black, rockets are white/black, space suits are white. They do use some golden protection but on probes and satellites mainly. So a full golden ship is a matter of aesthetics, not utility. And that is my issue.

I get it that some ppl like it, question of taste. I am just saying all the extra paint jobs for Phantom as an explorer are missed. There are some acceptable ones, but the best one IMHO is the stock.

Krait Mk II has got 7 extra skins/skin sets, plus the ship kit, plus the PC gamer super-duper best ever one, plus the chromed one. Cool. That's enough. But Phantom got a golden one. It's just not fair. I know, life's not fair you will say, cry me a river. But things come to people if they fight for it. If we were accepting everything we get and never asked for more we would be still living in caves

Any ship with a fuel scoop is an exploration ship.
My Phantom has a fuel scoop on it ATM, solely to get to Maia and then back. Otherwise the Ruel Rats would get a message every few stops. And mine is not built for exploration at all.

I have a DBX with a Fuel Scoop and 66Ly range and I don't use it as an explorer, but that's not the point. Phantom is an explorer because that is what it does best. If you are looking for a trader there is Python, Mk II also has a bigger haul. If you are looking for a combat Ship MK II has more hardpoints and is tougher. Taxi? No, it's too expensive and too big for a taxi. It has great jump range and a lot of compartments and a very good view from the cabin. And that is the definition of an explorer (one exception is Anaconda, Anaconda is everything). It can be used for different roles, every ship can. But Phantom is an explorer

If you fit the Golden skin to your Phantom at Hutton it'll reduce your heat levels when fuel scooping

OMG listen to this: I've just read somewhere that I can also get a free Conda there. What a coincidence!!! Thank you pal, I am taking my Cutter and flying to Hutton now, this forum is the best, you will always be my friend and I will name my son Gauntlet Expert after you

lots of love xoxoxoxoxo

Anyone flying around with a golden paintjob like some Space Liberace ought to be disappointed with themselves.

Wow that's harsh - bloody funny mind you and gave me a right laugh, but harsh nonetheless :)

"Space Liberace" - I'm gonna remember that one.

I hope that makes it onto Oss's avatar the "quote wall of fame".

Haha, yes. So true.

Of course it is. Now that every ship has a built-in FSS, all you technically need to explore is a fuel scoop.

Minimum slot requirement went down from three to just one.

Somewhere I agree with the OP, I bought the Chromed Krait mk2 and was hoping for a Chromed Phantom too, not this golden abomination.

I've regretted getting the golden paintjob for my gunship a while back. I'd thought the more angular edged ships would look better in golden, but I mostly felt embarrassed when other cmdrs saw my ship passing by or as invited multicrew. I gave in again this time and got the golden paintjob for the iCourier hoping smaller and 'zippier' ships could make more sense (or not again). And it kind of feels like a semi-trollish game to me by FD as they make folks wait for each desired ship to paint in the countdown with the daily reveal of chrome/iridescent or gold now, haha.
