Distant Worlds 3 expedition is postponed indefinitely (from DW Project Leader Erimus)

Good lord this reads like the most melodramatic garbage I've ever seen, what a damn drama queen "the game has lost its soul" get the hell out of here. In the words of the great rapper Ice cube "Bye Felicia."
Well that happens everywhere in the world, people are hell-bent in making it a souless place. But TBH I don't see that in Odyssey. There are numerous problems with Odyssey regarding bugs, performance, and the UI, plus the ground-space disconnect, but I really don't see how its lost its soul (and I found Horizons planets rather more boring).

Again, important to remember that the statement quoted in the OP was elsewhere, was not posted by Erimus, and is not an official DW3 announcement.
It's true the Distant Worlds team are not hopeful about the future as far as things stand now - we don't even have a Frontier contact - but you know. If it wasn't for the passion for the game people have Distant Worlds and many other expeditions, events, PvP leagues, canyon racing, the Buckyballers, the scientists and miners wouldn't have organised so many great things over the last 6-7 years. "Indefinitely" isn't "never". But I think it's a long way back from here.

Asuming EDO release had been smoother, do you think DW3 would have launched without waiting for console players anyways?

This is the worst part of whats happened for me, I love the exploration aspect of this game. During lockdown it helped me keep relatively sane. I would like to thank Erimus and all the other good folk who have devoted so much of their time, effort and talent making exploration such an enjoyable experience. Sincere thanks.

Not launched, no. Console players have to be included. But an enormous amount of planning went into DW2 which could have been started in time for DW3 to be well on the way to being organised by the time EDO came online fir the console players.

Who would take a paper ship onto a megaship that was allegedly going to jump into Thargoid infested space - then complain when Thargoids appeared?

Maybe I was never cut out to be a 'real explorer' 🤷‍♂️

Im sure even you would have been annoyed if you got blown up on the pad and resurreced a thousand light years away. Or got shot down by the megaship when you tried to fight off the thargoids in a no fire zone and ended up 1000ly away. Really you still hate players?

I only logged in a few hours later after they fixed it. Flew around a few times and exploded my way home because i only went there to see what would happen on the other side. Nothing happened so flop. Took my cutter in original chome paint too.

Its what I never understand about ED exploration- other than messing up a landing or neutron star, where really is the unknown or danger? I don't expect every crevice and rock to be lethal (well, unless you are an SRV) but where is that Indiana Jones / do I take the idol / oh dear big boulder rando moments?

The Gnosis was a buggy (in all senses of the word) step to that. The unknown suddenly came up and rapped on players shoulders and went ahem

No, I'd have laughed my socks off, honestly! I pancaked on a body on the first trip to Beagle point and blew up, losing around 30KLy of exploration data and 1st discoveries and ended up in Colonia (my starting point) - so just started out again, it was part of playing the game.

Me, hate players? Where do you deduce that? Because I think that anyone knowingly going to a 'dangerous' part of the Galaxy and just shrugging it of as unimportant is strange? Well, if so then I guess you are right - I must do - but if I go out into space an a paper bag and it bursts, I don't blame anyone but myself for it...

Further 1) Frontier knew explorers and carebears were going well in advance and didn't say a thing and just played along. 2) Frontier hadn't achieved a few extra years of underdelivering to feed into peoples expectations. There was still overall good faith in the community back then. So the thought of having a poor experience from something frontier were organising wasn't yet expected.

Today of course it would be different. People would just say "can't be as bad as odysee lol".

Do you really expect someone who is taking your money to string the entire playerbase along for a (few?) weeks then go slap ha got you suckers! This is not logical.

Didn't Galnet say something along the lines of "Thargoid Medusas sighted" though?

Knowing that do you:

Take a balsa Asp Explorer with lightweight 6D shields

Or a sturdy Asp Explorer that can handle itself if need be

So, essentially, you do see it the same as me. People flocked to the Gnosis in tinfoil ships because they were certain that Elite: Dangerous was really Elite: Harmless and that the big, bad bogeymen wouldn't be permitted to join in the party - then learned the difficult lesson that the bogeyman, in this case, was real?

No i think mostly people were just excited for another community event. Like distant worlds etc. And because cannon was the player group maybe people assumed it would be exploration / geekery based? I dunno i went in my cutter. Just because it looked cool.

Another thing to remember is 1) if frontier didn't release the galnet post before the event 2) There weren't two bugs in the event scripting that completely ruined it for early adopters.. there would be no problem with what happened. If you logged in after they fixed it there was just a few thargoids flying around the megaship.

Galnet announced the new Hydra interceptors with Gnosis departure to Cone.

It was very very much advertised something would happen there, it's just people believed they could just ignore the Threat 12 USS and opt-out.

Which was the best, you couldn't opt out (y)

Oh, and people were annoyed they couldn't put their CMDR tag on some undiscovered worlds.
