[DISTANT WORLDS] SRV exploding workaround

While I haven't lost an SRV yet, I only carry one. If there is a bug that destroys it, I certainly hope that FD would be able to restore it for me. Of course, that assumes that I don't do something silly by myself. :)

3.5k from SOL, I just stopped to pick up more materials for Jumponium. You guessed it, for the first time ever in game I experienced the bug. 1.2g planet, aproximately 97% hull, driving along with no obstructions in view and BLAMMO!

My only SRV, and I'm carrying 1t of Hutton Mugs that I was going to leave on a planet at Beagle Point.

After 1200 km of reckless driving on high g planets without any problems, the sudden exploding srv bug hit me again on a 0.31g planet while driving slow and carefully. I was already down a bit in damage (88%) as the thing won't stick the the surface in low g and loses a few points on every little jump. Then suddenly on a pretty much flat straight, boom. The 600ly left to the Lagoon is now 8.6k ly to get my spare buggy back before it becomes too far to go back.

2g and up is where I'll be driving until this gets fixed. Or not at all if someone has exploded on high g as well?
Too bad you can't jettison components to increase range when you need it.

I take it that there has been a bug report filed on this?

FD are normally pretty good at compensating for this kind of bug i.e. I would expect that they can restore your SRV without you needing to head back - certainly worth an ask (and I'd also like to know the result in case I do ever hit the issue).

FD know about it, my guess is they haven't found the cause yet as we've had at least 2 updates since it became a known issue. It is a huge downer for us who are hoping to socialise at Beagle Point......

"Speed Kills", I tend to average around 15 speed things, a lot of people exploding are travelling faster than that? Is there a link to speed or am I talking total crap? (again before anybody else says it...)

I've seen reports of the SRV exploding when people were driving very carefully (mind you, I obviously can't verify whether they were or not :D ).

While I know that FD are aware of the issue, reporting a bug if you personally hit the issue and requesting restoration of your SRV - has anyone done that?

I don't think it helps but I was crawling along at about 5 when I had my 100 to 5% incident.

Just lost an SRV which I had left parked up (I went to the kitchen for food). It was sitting there with no issues for at least a few mins (in debug camera mode). It had plenty of fuel and the hull was repaired using the 50% boost (accidentally used because the cursor position is remembered in synthesis, annoyingly). I'm at the Lagoon Nebula with only one SRV now. This is ridiculous; release a $60 expansion and the key feature randomly explodes. *Slow clap*

I've decided not to travel back and buy another SRV. If I use it again on the way it might just do the same thing, unless FD fixes the bug between now and the next time I use it. Doesn't seem worth the 5 or 6 hour round trip to replace it now. If FD decide to replace it while I'm in flight, that's cool.

I have 32.5ly jump with full tanks and 11 of the basic FSD boosts. Hopefully that'll be enough to get me there and back.

Had some fun today! I winged up with a buddy and he drove his SRV looking for signal sources and I followed behind in my Asp. Once he found them I was able to shoot the rocks and scoop the minerals! Nice that there's a workaround if you absolutely need minerals but don't have an SRV.

I didn't get a chance to see if the mineral laden rocks will spawn without an SRV in the vacinity. You can see the bright colored ones as they stick out compared to the standard gray rocks but they don't show on the ships radar. Once shot the minerals do show up on radar. Just select them and use the ships scoop, they show up as a cargo container just like scooping cargo in space.

Be careful not to damage your ship as you'll be scooping the ground. Minerals on hills can be a challenge! If you're wondering, you cannot discard minerals from a buggy for someone else to pick up, they aren't visible when they exit the buggy unlike cargo canisters.

+1 rep
Good find Cmdr !!! Excellent help for cmdrs without srvs

Just a thought on the subject of exploding SRVs.
Did anyone considered being hit by a random meteor. All these craters are for a reason.
I've never seen it but I've always wondered if it's possible to see a meteor or even a shower of them hitting surface of the planet. That would be a nice feature of the game.
It certainly happens in real life.

Well since we are talking about SRVs whats the best planet to find germanium?its used for fsd boost

Happened to me last night - I was driving on a flat piece of terrain and bam, SRV gone. I reported it and requested a replacement, and am waiting for FD to respond. Will advise if and when something happens, in the meantime the spare is remaining safely parked until I absolutely needed or they fix this bug.

Keep us updated. I'm not landing anywhere until this is taken care off. Through replacement or resolving the bug.

Will do - atm wondering if I should also start a new thread on it in bug reports or if just raising a ticket with support is enough. ATM their stated response time is 72 hours, will definitely post any developments here. Since I'm still close to the bubble, faffing around Lagoon, buckyballing back to replace the SRV is not entirely out of the question, but I'd much prefer not having to do that :)

Start a bug report thread, like I did, and so did a few others. Make FD realise this is a show stopper bug for explorers. Make this bug front page in bug forum.
