Distributor Pip allocation / identification, unbelievably poor design

Got it on the CH Pro Fighterstick hat too. The biggest issue I have with pip settings is accidentally rebalancing by pressing down on the hat, but that's a me thing, not a pips thing. Pip management is an ingrained thing at this point in my pretend spaceman career.

I'm not sure if it was deliberate design or not, but I think the fact pip mgmt takes practice is something that separates average combat pilots from good ones.

Said as someone trying to move from the former to the latter.

Partly, I agree with the OP - consciously getting a specific pip setting can be a little tedious sometimes.

On the other hand, getting that 4-1-1 setting exactly right isn't as crucial as some people make it out to be. The actual difference between that and e.g. 3.5-1-1.5 is marginal, and by the time you've become far enough advanced to notice the difference, you won't even have to think about any more about the pip setting, your thumb (left in my case) will do it automatically.
