DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

Thank you for the link. Heck that's expensive even for head tracking only!

Kickstarter early backer FTW! :->

I'm a bit annoyed that they have changed the original modular design but if you want the most accurate tracking technology with no wires, drift, or line of sight restriction then this is currently it.

Sorry!

Hey everyone.

Apologies for our silence regarding stocks of late. Super busy here as we're moving operations and have been kept busy with everything involved in that. Anyhoo... we've changed the options for the bundles as we realised they were off sale simply because the PCB is out of stock - which is a bit dumb! We now have four options:

GY-521, Pro Micro, Switch & PCB
GY-521, Pro Micro & Switch
MPU9150, Pro Micro, Switch & PCB
MPU9150, Pro Micro & Switch

This means the bundles are now available without the PCBs (and we expect stock of the PCBs towards the end of next week, beginning of the week after).

Hope this helps.

Hi all.

Dont have the game yet but planning to when funds allow. In the mean time i notice this project and thought id give it ago. Got the parts and tried some soldering on the header pins which at first wernt going too bad but the 2nd time i tried to do more later that day they just wernt going well and messed em up so bad that i heated the pins too much and they got pushed down through the underside. Tried desoldering with wick but wasnt working very well but tried my best and in the end i just yanked the pins best i could with some pliers.

Talked to rob through email about it but thought id post it here too.

I think it might be salvagable as lookin at the breadboard picture on edtracker site it seems just 4 pins are used on that side of the pro micro, pin 16 is dodgy cos the circle pad isnt fully there on the top (is on bottom) looks like it might solder a pin ok i dunno tho. other two pins the 2nd and 4th ones along the top left of the board seem ok. So just wondering would it be worth trying to save this board or just use the cheapo pro micro i bought on ebay for 4 quid delivered and start afresh with that one and i dunno sell this one on for spares or repairs kinda thing?

Also i had a go soldering the button in on the pcb, at first it wasnt melting the solder on to the silver bits but a few days ago with new solder and a new tip it seemed to go on ok, i soldered the underside first as that was easier as bigger pads, then i did the top bits which soldered ok. So im getting better i think :p

Anyhow have a look at the pro micro i have atm, tell me what you guys think.

And should i continue to try build it myself or let someone else do it. Id like to do it myself as completing a project like this will be mint where i can say i did it myself. :)

Would very much like the STL file. See PM.
Would you consider uploading it to a print on demand site and let people order it from there. Some have a setup where you get a small cut when people order it.

I generally use shapeways - the files are uploaded but TBH 22.61 Euros in their cheapest material seems a bit steep for the case. Plus the fact I've not ordered a copy from there so I have no idea how it will turn out.

Would also be an idea to make a version without the rubber band hooks. I Velcro mine to the brim of a cap, so I don't need the hooks.

Can easily provide the case minus the band holders (or with just a pair for either side Usb or rear usb).

The holders also work with a cable tie. Looks much neater.

Second run of V1 boards it in the oven. V1 Version 2, if you see what I mean.
Hey Hobbycomponents.
These ones are a bit more rounded. Routed not scored.
They will fit in an Maplin project box.
We think.
Yet to be tested in the box but the dimensions requested are being built.

It's all quite exciting!

V2, V1 is in our heads. Watch this space Commanders.

Lol

nomenclature.

Great news

We have basically run out of version 1 boards.
I have 29 circuits left
Rob has none because he did a stellar job of keeping you in boards while I was on holiday. First for about 18 years.
Got kinda peeved coz I couldn't build more trackers.

Dan is keeping 2 panels coz he wants to give one to David Braben one day and one for himself of course.

I remember a few months ago speaking to the EDTracker guys. " We will never shift a thousand in a year"

Thank you everyone.

You bought me some beer.

I'm keeping one panel to stick on my wall.

We are going to miss the v1's. They did us proud. Just a shame we had to kill all the Cobras.......

That's why I'm keeping one panel on my wall forever.
lol.
:)

27 circuits left in the time it took me to write this.

Hi, new to Ed and the forums and just spotted this thread. If you don't want to mess about with hardware I highly recommend FacetrackNOIR. It's free and works with a webcam to track your head movements. I have a PS3 webcam with hacked drivers to work with windows.

I got it working perfectly first time I tried it with ED.

Anyone fancy starting a new thread? - Like from the beginning with all the instructions in the first post (updated regularly) ?

Just sayin:rolleyes:

Is 22.61 a typo or have you included shipping or something. I uploaded to Shapeways (files are of course kept as private) when the printer at work failed to produce something usable, and I get €11.64 with the hooks and €10.97 without the hooks for the complete box but excluding shipping. Still expensive, but €22.61 is just ridiculous.

Thank you very much, files received.

Congratulations. I'm not surprised actually, this is a fun project to follow. I have probably spent more money on various stuff and parts to make my 4 ED Trackers than the actual cost of a single TrackIR, but this is much more fun.

Any chance of a picture of what the V1, V2 boards will look like?
Also, any design changes apart from PCB size and the silk screen print?

€22.61 includes shipping to the UK. I've uploaded a combined top & case and it should be available here

You can see now why I've got my own printer - high initial cost but great fun at reasonable cost since. My offer to print for £5 plus postage stands, I can post to Europe as well , p&p will go up by about 50p.

I just bought 4 packs of tic-tacs and there's a new board out that fits in that little maplins box?

Might have to make another one...

Where can I find the component list for the wireless version? I have lots of little rechargeable batteries lying around and fancy having a crack at building one.
