DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

No, the tracker does not need Java to run, although the monitoring/calibration GUI for version 2 does.

For now, you could use the older v1 sketch (it's just as functional at this point in time). Calibration is then done by button press as the device is starting up - it's a little less user-friendly, but if you must stay away from java, it's one way forward.

Mind you, the Arduino IDE is all based on Java, so presumably you can't even use that? So you might be stuck, really.

it does work with other games yes I use it for warthunder I did not test it using arma 2 (dayz) only facetrack

Would anyone be so kind as to give (and perhaps maintain in the OP if it's possible) a TL;DR on the state of the software and hardware for this project for newbs on the cusp of buying a TrackIR from the evil empire, due to the sheer amount and ambiguity of data in this thread?

Is there any one selling this in one piece? And is there somewhere a single website with all required instructions and software to get started? Sorry if this has been already asked, but I don't want to crawl through 20 pages.

I've checked out TrackIR 5 but I'm not yet convinced to spend that much money on a tracking device when I can try the cheap alternative first.

Hope that helps you...

The boys who started this thread are working on a "one stop shop" website. If you wait until then and when the process has sophisticated itself a bit more I am sure it will be a much easier process. I too did not want to go the TrackIR route (even after buying a DelanClip) after finding out about NaturalPoint's business practices.

I managed to figure out how to build this bad boy by going by the instructions at pocketmoon's website and Brumster's soldering video. Note that prior to this I have had NO prior soldering or electronics experience. It actually is pretty straight forward.

As for an all-in-one solution, I believe this was given as an option even though this is really a DIY thread and they are mainly trying to keep that spirit here. If you are really interested in getting one though I would PM Brumster or Dead Fred and ask "really nicely". Heck, maybe contacting one of the guys (or gals) on this thread that managed to fit it in a little box would be your best bet?

Here are the current fruits of my labor:

I plan on getting a box. I figured if I can do soldering then placing it in a little protective box shouldn't be much of a problem.

Did you sort this one out, Frodo?

No I haven't. My brain got fried at work yesterday :( and so I just didn't have the heart to play around with it.

I'd like to reset my Arduino to its original state first, so will investigate this first unless someone can point me in the right direction.

How you getting on with yours ?

Lovely :)

The website will be up and running this weekend in some form or another, it might be a little low on content but the basics will be there. I'm working on a "shop" system in it to allow ordering of the boards because that is getting quite a hectic process for us, but it's awkward to implement our required workflow in most of the shop systems I've tried...

Watch this space ;)

The updated sketches and UI were working fine while I had the HDI.cpp and USBAPI.h from the original version. I replaced them with the newer ones USBAPI.h renamed correctly) from version 2 and then started seeing the same errors.

That's very odd - the files under EDTracker2/core are identical to those under the V1 sketch 'arduino library' folder ??

one thing i did just notice is that the file USBAPI .h.156 that you rename to USBAPI .h would be wrong, as there is a space as you can see in between the I and the . as follows -

USBAPI .h.156
should be
USBAPI.h.156
and then renamed to
USBAPI.h

i wonder if this will help??

Hey Guys,

As i wrote in another thread i'm considering buying TrackIR 5 for the start of premium beta next week.

In that thread there was talk of the ED Tracker, to be honest i have never done any soldering at all so don't really fancy having a go, regardless of how easy it is to some.

I did read this from the first post of page 1 of this thread "If you can't be bothered then when the production boards arrive we can make finished, programmed and calibrated units available."

I apologise for not reading through the full 60 pages of this thread but can i ask are you guys near to being able to provide finished units for sale?

Thanks

They are providing some fully soldered versions yes pm sent

Well - I've just read the full 60 page thread! Wow is the first thing that comes to mind.

Tempted to order the bits now in time for Premium Beta at the end of the month, but may just get lazy and if the pre built ones are available plump for one of those.

But over and above, amazing to see this sort of community work!
