DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

Got my pre-assembled EDTracker, and after wondering for a minute how to connect it to the computer (you need a micro-USB cable) had it up and running in no time. Pretty amazing stuff for such a small and affordable package. Thank you guys!

Too many pages to read, but are there suggestions on a case for the tracker? I have a friend who has a 3D printer who could make one if he has the schematics, so that would be an option if someone has made a 3D printed case.

And how to mount it to your head with a hat or similar? I don't use a headset, and am thinking of some kind of headband (sweatband?) instead of a hat.

If you search "maplin" there's a project enclosure that works - either that or a Tic Tac box is a favourite!

Good call on the Tic Tac box. Seems fitting considering both Elite and Tic Tacs are a blast from my childhood. It would also have the added advantage of giving the device a pleasant aroma.

I mentioned some pages back that I had ordered 2 pcb's form edtracker and two kits from hobby components as I thought I would make a pigs ear of at least one.

Well they both work

I only need one so the other has gone on ebay.co.uk.
Its calibrated and tested. Works fine.
3 day auction 99p start (£20 buy it now)

I've checked the rules and I don't think I'm breaking them by letting you know ?
If I am I'm sorry and just delete the post.
Just a one off. I don't plan to make / sell more.

Many Thanks Gripped .. for making me the proud owner of ..
(Managed to avoid calling you "Commander" on your eBay feeback!! But please accept full marks for a lovely job of packing and dispatch). Cheers! :D

As for the EDTracker, looking forward to testing it. I have to say this is an extremely cool project from all that I've seen and heard; To Pocketmoon/ Brumster and all those involved, I vote FD should give you Founder Status right away!

Awesome Job CMDRS.

Wow. In what must be almost 100 calibrated headtrackers, I had my first one today that was PERFECT in relation to yaw drift.... I've never seen this before (had some close, +/-0.01) and solid, too, even after moving it around... zero's across the board :)

I might eBay this one for £100.... ;) <laughs>....

Glad to have sent it to a good home :)
I didn't need two. I might have more confidence in my soldering ability from now on.
Have fun with it.

Hacks!

(note - the GND pin next to RX1 is not connected, just residue before I figured out I could sink current through pin 4)

This build needs a few software mods:
  • interrupts on pin TX0 (it's INT3 on EICRA, instead of INT6 on EICRB when pin 7 is used)
  • HIGH output on pin 5
  • LOW output on pin 4 and pin 14

Mine also needs some soldering rework ;P
