DLC 19 Speculation

So it seems that everyone thinks the coati has got to be in here (species is debatable but it's probably more likely they go for the more popular one).

As for the other mystery animal, the mara and ABB seem to be the front runners. Which of the two is more likely? Do you think there will be an attempt to do an event split of North and South America?
Would definitely prefer the Mara, although unfortunately I think the Ocelot is also fairly likely, definitely more so than the black bear, fits the theme of the pack more and ranges across both continents

Mara would make me happy but I'm a little wary to hope for it (and my law of assumption self is kicking my ass for it, but whatever). I don't know if I ee an American Black Bear...
If Frontier wants to play with fire (because some people will riot) it could be Vicuna or Guanaco as well... Or some species we don't even think about, as usual.

I completely misread the post, Fallax. Yeah, the mara would be better. Not only would it be more interesting in this pack opposed to the ABB (and I'm saying this as a guy that wants it) but also it'll really flesh out South America, particularly the southern part, influence Patagonia.
If it's added, honestly at this point more monkeys and maybe a scarlet ibis is what I personally feel would be enough to flesh out the one of the most biodiverse continents

If it’s the viscacha I think I would I be unalive with its cuteness.

I would also happily squeal loudly if it’s the Brazilian Porcupine but it’s more of a tropical animal .

I'm from the opinion that the two remaining animals might have little to nothing with the overall dry americas theme that is presented to us untill now, just like we had the sloth bear and hermanns tortoise on Eurasia that didn't fit the overall cold eurasia vibe that was show to us or the cassowary not fitting the overall outback vibe from australia.

Is this a method to believing the SA coati will be here instead of the white nosed? Maybe, but it is what i find more likelly as well.

They kinda go hand and hand though. We’ve got the dog of the desert, now we need the cat. Plus if the last 2 animals are South American that would make the ratio 5-2 which isn’t really balanced if it is Americas. 1 of them almost certainly will be North American. I would prefer the black bear, but frontier does love cats..
Interesting point! My brain kept going toward this being "Latin America" despite how prevalent the coyote is in NA and the typical range of the bighorn sheep.

The bobcat or the black bear are equally likely, IMHO. And they are both definitively of the 'Americas' given the extent of their range (all over the continental US and Canada, dipping into Mexico). Though the bobcat has more range that would match the likely scenery for the pack... Really hard to tell! But I'd prefer the bobcat, I think.

Either would be good but man, I was more excited for this pack when I was expecting two more LA animals. Still stoked, so whatever, but aaaaah!

Coati, because it's way more popular. If people had to pay for ABB, there'd be a riot😂

No, but honestly, the only contenders for the next anniversary would be the ABB or the Nile croc or the blackbuck
I mean, the ABB is #22 on the current 2025 meta wishlist. I think people would be fine paying for it.

The thing that scares me a little with the coati (and to a lesser extent the mara) is that wouldnt it be smartest to put what is easily the highest profile animal for this theme into the marketing for the pack?
Especially in a time of struggle hiding what would likely be the biggest seller seems like an odd move (not a marketing guy so maybe im completely wrong)

Eurasia had the wisent. It’s just about what looks cool on the poster

But is a coati or a mara really the smartest one? Honestly, we're the zoo nerds crew here, the fact that we're still going means that the general animal loving audience hasn't left the game yet; a dog might just simply be the better choice from a marketing standpoint.

Our marketing team also makes choices I don't understand but heck, it's not my cup of tea so I assume they're doing the right thing lol

It would be a pretty huge miss for them to not incorporate such a strong pick into a pack with this theme. Hope for the coati is what is keeping a lot of people positive about this pack right now, TBH. I'm assuming it'll be in the mix.

It just wouldn't look great anywhere on that key art. And, like @Iben said, we're nerds over here. The coati is a pretty well-known animal among this community but I do think it would be an odd "headliner" for a pack... Especially if it's "the Americas." The coyote makes a lot of sense.

The absolute smartest one? Maybe not, dog being dog might be enough as it seemingly was with the pallas cat.
But doing all of rhea, coyote, saki, flamingo and sheep over what is arguably the most requested animal by the core community at the moment?

Like as i said im not particulary knowledgeable on marketing but i think they would have gotta alot more excitement out of this if they teased the coati. I just think getting the excitement as high as possible would help, now everyone is excited for new stuff ofcourse but the general reception of the packs seems to be more luke warm over all.
Idk maybe im wrong

The reason why the coyote is there is the same of why the wisent is on eurasia: it's the most recognizable and iconic of all the animals in the pack, That's it, there isn't really an complex reason.
But is the wisent that? I mean i love that animal, but id be lying if i said the swan and boar are not infinetly more recognizable than the wisent, which even in its native range seems to not be a well known animal among the casual people, anecdotal evidence i know but thats waht i observed atleast*

*When i was at my local zoo with my family last year, which only keeps only native animals, my sister was confused about why there was a north american animal all out of sudden. And when i asked my best friend if you could guess what germanys heaviest animal was he didnt even know what a wisent was.

Is the coyote the most recognizable animal out of the ones teased? Maybe, id probably give that to the flamingo but sure.
Altough i think similar to the tasmanian devil, there are probably way more people familiar with the name rather than the actual animal
