DLC18 discussion and predictions

Would you guys be fine with the final animal pack having 8 animals as usual or do you think a bit more animals (10-12) is needed to be satisfying enough?

And what animals you think are an absolute must have if it is just 8 animals?
either 8 good picks or 10-12 with a few good picks but also a few so-so ones

The last pack will always be dissapointing because something didnt make it, with a very carefull selection you can probably fill most holes in the roster with 12 spots, but its a hard task.
And with frontiers usual approach to pack i dont really see that happenin :D

NW monkey, coati, baboon, duck

8 would be fine, but roster would need to be less diverse (more monkeys and birds). For absolute wish fulfillment there would need to be more animals to fit stuff like North American Porcupine and Sea Otter

Yeah my problem is that i want at least half of animals from SA 😂

But being objective i would say a good roster of 8 could be:

1. Coati
2. NW monkey
3. Pelican
4. Duck
5. Secretary
6. Tree kangaroo
7. Baboon
8. Idk if exhibit or 8th animal, maybe walrus?

That's quite the variety and fills most of the gaps. I don't get my mara or rhea but the community gets what's most important/wanted. Only thing is that it has no ungulates which is unlikely for a Frontier pack. Either musk ox, markhor or blackbuck are options as well but idk what i would replaced for them (well i do personally but the community in general)

We know we're getting another animal pack, I'm hoping it's 8 animals and then, if it's wrapping up, I hope we get a larger finale pack after that.

If only 8 more animals - that's so tough! I'm going to throw in an extra cheeky unpopular-choice WE because it's my list and I want to.

Pygmy slow loris
Rock hyrax
Spider monkey
Squirrel monkey
Coati
Roseate spoonbill
Southern tamandua
Macaws in mixed colourations

WE: Red squirrel

I just thought of another reason why I'm SURE the next pack will be a South America one:

Shepreth is Frontier's inspiration zoo and they have a big coati exhibit. They do really good talks on the coatis and they request donations from visitors of things like perfume because they explain how much the coatis love different and novel smells (don't worry, they don't just throw perfume bottles in their habitat, they use them carefully in small doses to spray on enrichment items and they use more natural sources of scents more often).

There is NO WAY that Frontier will have visited Shepreth so many times and not fallen in love with the coatis or understood how essential and common they are as a zoo species, or how entertaining they are for visitors. I think they've been saving them up for a SA animal pack and, as we all know, it's time people, it is time.

They’re not going to do 12 unless there’s an anniversary animal to get us to 200 animals. I find it very unlikely they would stop at 199 animals

It can be 8 but those 8 need to be perfect picks, we can’t have another situation of frontier choosing animals that we never needed and add nothing to the game.

As far as what is needed, baboon, coati, new world primate and another bird (preferably water fowl but any useful bird will do)

Okay, this would be my DREAM FINAL 13:

SA Animal Pack

Spider monkey
Squirrel monkey
Pygmy marmoset
Coati
Roseate spoonbill
Southern tamandua
Manatee

WE: Macaws in mixed colourations

Arboreal scenery pack

Pygmy slow loris
Tree hyrax
Tree kangaroo
Grey fox

WE: Red squirrel

Scenery: treehouse pieces, rope swings, lookout towers, bird hides, elevated cage runs for small arboreal habitats eg marmosets and squirrels, trees with hollows in the trunk, lots of foliage

Palm Civet could be cool! I'd also love African civet though.

i'd be fine with 8 animals if they were perfect picks, but i feel like if they want to do a proper sendoff maybe giving us a few bonus ones could be fun too.

i personally really want sea otters, bush dogs, and servals. i'd wish for parrots + other birds and more marine life, but those are probably being saved for a sequel.

I mean they might as well do twelve animals and throw in a bunch of the most basic clones possible. I’d be much happier with a pack of 12 like this:
  1. Asiatic Lion
  2. Eurasian Brown Bear
  3. Geoffroy’s Spider Monkey
  4. Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo
  5. Hamadryas Baboon
  6. Linnaeus’ Two Toed Sloth (WE)
  7. Pacific Walrus
  8. Père David’s Deer
  9. Secretary Bird
  10. Sumatran Tiger
  11. South American Coati
  12. Southern Rockhopper Penguin

Than I would with a pack of 8 like this:
  1. Geoffroy’s Spider Monkey
  2. Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo
  3. Hamadryas Baboon
  4. Linnaeus’ Two Toed Sloth (WE)
  5. Pacific Walrus
  6. Secretary Bird
  7. South American Coati
  8. Southern Rockhopper Penguin

Ok so im building for wolves currently and it made me realize something. Id really like some more movement types in game for the animals.
Taking said wolves as an example, they really only have two variations for moving, either they walk or they run. But from what i see from my parents dogs thats only part of a dogs, or wolfs in this cases, repertoire. It would be great to get a trot in between running and walking, and a sprint where they go real fast.
It looks like something pretty unimportant, but i think it would do wonders for making the animals feel more alive

Fun fact: according to newly released concept art SA pack was definitely supposed to include giant otters and even possibly kind of spider monkey.
Wonder if they just permanently scrapped the spider monkey, or saved it for later. The strange part is we didn’t even have brachiation back in 2020.
Given that this is just concept art who knows if they even started developing any of these things. But there's definitely stuff in these that we wound up getting later than the targeted pack so who knows...

At least we know they've previously considered it. I'd actually be quite curious to see the concept art for all of the packs at some point. Just to see what we got versus the original concepts, etc. Plus? It's always gorgeous!

I could get behind an 8 animal pack if we also got scenery and the picks were perfect. 3-4 South American animals plus tree kangaroo, secretary bird, etc. And some sort of fun WTE animal (or a brand new exhibit type). My ideal roster would be something like this for a pack of 8 animals:
  1. Matschie's Tree Kangaroo
  2. Secretary Bird
  3. South American Coati
  4. Ocelot
  5. Golden Lion Tamarin
  6. Scarlet Ibis
  7. Reeve's Muntjac
  8. Exhibit: Slow Loris
And if we were able to bump it up to 12? I'd add the NA Black Bear, NA river otter, and burrowing owl with one additional exhibit species. If I were being more realistic and skewing toward community tastes though I'd swap out those last two for the Blackbuck and Walrus. Haha.

I'm assuming here that we aren't going to get macaws or anything like that. And the Slow Loris would have the same issues in habitat form as sloths (and isn't a WTE candidate) so... An exhibit box that's a new shape (more horizontal) would be an interesting, fun way to end on in the absence of parrots or budgies.

Man, yes! A civet would be awesome. They're so gorgeous! But sadly, I think they fall too squarely in the "oddball" category at this stage. Haha.
