DLC18 discussion and predictions

Marvin has the right idea. Our Summer DLC will be the Asia Animal Pack. We'll get a deer, the banteng, blackbuck, Siberian crane, Pallas' cat, Chinese alligator, and Visayan warty pig, and our exhibit animal will be the Malayian flying fox.
I can't even dislike that pack tbh. Don't get me wrong, it's bad as a finale dlc... but I do like all those animals.

I would say it boils down to the same reason cats and bears are generally unwanted: we have a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I actually, even though I say I prefer other stuff, I'd love more cats and dogs and bears, but there are other animals I'd prefer.
But the base game had 3 bears, 2 dogs, and 5 cats. We then got a bear, cat, or dog almost continuously.

Now we're at:
  • 11 cats
  • 6 bears
  • 8 dogs
Dogs, bears and especially Cats are not generally unwanted. At least not within the general Player audience and even in parts of our Forum I think. You can see the this in various wishlists in which species of Cats/bears/dogs are still getting votes and are placed within the higher ranks.

The Moose is a deer isn’t it?
Moose are cladistically New World deer, that is true. Though they're still prominently found in the Old World (Eurasia). I think Milurian means South American deer like Marsh Deer
I simply just forgot about the moose no matter how many times I get told this I always forget the moose is a deer but I was more talking about a typical temperate deer something like the white tailed, marsh deer or even the elk.

How do you dare?!?!?! 😱😱😱😱

😜
I'm living proof that the "everything is exotic to someone!" rule isn't universal. Raccoons and foxes are both animals I will never see without overseas travel, but I still don't find them interesting or worth spots in a DLC. Honestly I don't even feel that way about the skunk, but I can't help but like skunks and so I use it a lot. Western culture especially is saturated by these animals. We see them in movies, in memes, in commercials, etc. I think I particularly dislike raccoons because every time something becomes internet-popular and those weirdos who give animals dumb nicknames like "doggo" and "trash panda" get a hold of them I instinctively reject them.

I really don't get the dislike for an additional canid. I mean, my most wanted animal the bat-eared fox IS a Fennec clone in a way. What I mean is the Grey Fox OR tanuki add climbing canid (which we don't have). OR the bush dog looks completely unlike anything in game. Are canids well represented? yes. but there are as many monitors as there are foxes yet people are ok with a new monitor. I get a new canid is far from essential but even a new color morph for already present canids would be nice...

but I agree we need more reptiles...

Congrats you just answerd yourself why eventhough we have the same amount of foxes and Monitors one is more favored atleast here on the forums then the other, especally when you keep in mind that there are 5 more canids in the game and a canid for every continent, meanwhile we dont even have an australian monitor eventhough its the worlds monitor hotspot

The thing is whatever canid we get next has to add something to the games variety, a new fox doesn’t do that given we have like 4 others. I like the bat eared for its unique ears and the grey fox for its climbing abilities but they both are still foxes and wouldn’t stand out in the roster.
The Raccoon Dog and the Bush Dog are different and would add something. One adding rep for Japan which doesn’t have a lot right now and the raccoon dog is unlike most of our canids in appearance - and the bush dog not only adds to SA which is very important, but we also don’t have a lot of these chunkier weasel like species.

So I agree with the bush dog and the tanuki.

Birds and monkeys aside which group do yall think could use some more additions the best?
I would love a Lepuridea species. I don't care if it's domesticated or wild.
I would love to have a third Pinniped to support the existing 2. I prefer the Walrus (as you all known), it is a polar animal and the only one in its family. A trio of Walrus, Gray Seal and Sea Lion would make sense in my opinion.
And I would love another Viverridea. I have a softspot for the Owston's Palm Civet, because of their german name "Fleckenroller" wich is such a funny word.

Grey Fox in fact is no fox at all. Even less related to "real fox" species than Wild Dog species Like Wolves or Bush Dogs are. In contrast to that the Tanuki is a fox and even more related to the Fox species we have than the Bat Eared Fox.

Edit: And I personally disagree that a new canid species "has to add Something to the Games variety". But personally my priority wish for a new canine is the Bush Dog because of its appearance and own Zoo experiences followed by the Bat Eared Fox.

I mean, I guess I see what you're trying to say, but the gray fox also doesn't even really look like the foxes we have; honestly, by that logic the maned wolf adds nothing except SA representation, because it just looks like a fox-wolf hybrid on stilts...

Ok sure but by appearance the grey fox doesn’t look that different to the red, Arctic or fennec foxes. To a regular player, they’ll just say “oh its another red fox” it doesn’t look unique compared to the rest of the foxes.

But those “stilts” is what makes it unique compared to other foxes like the red. A regular player can clearly tell the difference between:

Perentie would be good. It to me looks pretty different from in-game monitors. I also off the top of my head think an African crocodile/gator is necessary. Meanwhile, there is a canid in-game for pretty much everywhere they occur irl.

Agreed! In addition to the Grey Fox having a completely different face shape and larger eyes he has a black tipped tail.

I'd love the grey fox in game because it differs from the red fox but they are just minor variations and we have a fox for pretty much everywhere foxes occur.

But you have written that it is just another Fox species which is just not the case. Especially since there are so much debates about too much or less species within this or that more or less specific systematic order here around (which I personally do not Care about that much). But at the end I also doubt that the Gray Fox has a high chance compared to Bush Dog or the Bat Eared Fox. The Others are Just more Common and known by average people. I personally also doubt that the general player really minds which dog species is the next If another one should come. Even a Tanuki probably would be seen as raccoon clone by some General Players.

Yeah that was my bad I didn’t know they weren’t true foxes, but they still appear and look very similar to other foxes we have - that was my main point.
Bat Eared Fox probably would be a good choice regarding a fox-like looking species and does not really looking Like the foxes we have. It more looks like a mixture between a fox and an aardwolf. And the different appearance from the current foxes is at least within the same Level as Maned Wolf IS from the other Wild Dogs. Further it is more common known and represented in Zoos than the Grey Fox for example. And the Tanuki probably would be seen Just as a Raccoon. At least I did not know them before I was active within this Forum. Nevertheless I Just Hope for the Bush Dog.

I think of the canids Bush dog has the only real chance. :)
