DLC18 discussion and predictions

I've never had any plans to ever really visit California, but now I want to, and good thing this is in the one area I sorta did want to visit
Oh great! Yeah it's so worth a visit. You can spend a whole day there. The gardens are obvs nice too, make sure you pop in to the Japanese tea garden. San Fran is my favourite city on earth :) (wouldn't want to live there though, even if I could afford it!)

Regarding aquariums, I want something like the roster of megaquarium with the quality and detail of PZ. If we only get megafauna like the lagoons in JWE2, I wouldn't find much use of it.

For example, check out the megafauna-only roster of ZT2 marine mania (without cetaceans):
  1. Blacktip reef shark
  2. Blue marlin
  3. California sea lion
  4. Goblin shark
  5. Green sea turtle
  6. Leatherback sea turtle
  7. Manta ray
  8. Pacific walrus
  9. Rockhopper penguin
  10. Scalloped hammerheaf
  11. Sea otter
  12. West Indian manatee
  13. Whale shark
  14. White shark
This is more of a seaworld roster than an aquarium roster, and not one I'd be very happy with.
I definetly want freshwater fish, perhaps even more than saltwater ones.
Like give me arapaima, redtail cat, pacu, arowana as "habitat" species and a nice selection of "exhibit" species like piranha, discus, cichlids

Same for scenery, I love the stylized signs and statues, but with early game animals you really feel the lack of cohesive realistic signs.
Yeah. I'd like some consistency, but some stylized scenery is also cool
dev release branch just got updated on steamdb, what does that mean?
It means the dev release branch was worked on

Hard question though is there any animal in each DLC that you would trade for an habitat birds?
Honestly, while I don't dislike any animal we've gotten, there are loads that I wouldn't miss in the slightest if traded for a bird. Hell, in some packs there are even multiple species I'd choose, especially with how lacking in diversity the last three animal packs have been.

Arctic: Arctic Wolf or Dall Sheep -> Snow Goose
South America: Llama -> Roseate Spoonbill
Australia: Keep as is, every animal here is essential for the region.
Aquatic: Also keep as is.
Southeast Asia: Proboscis Monkey -> Victoria Crowned Pigeon
Africa: Keep as is
North America: This one's pretty hesitant. As much as I love the beaver and arctic fox, neither are nearly as common or needed as a bird for North America, so either/both for -> Wood Duck and/or Burrowing Owl
Europe: This pack's animal roster just wasn't for me at all so it isn't really my place to comment on it I guess. Though if pushed I'd totally ditch the ibex or badger for -> Western Capercaillie
Wetlands: Wild Water Buffalo, Spectacled Caiman, and/or Nile Lechwe -> Pelican species, black swan, mandarin duck, white faced whistling duck, scarlet ibis... way too many options here. In hindsight, this should've been a prime pack for birds.
Conservation: Scimitar Horned Oryx -> Guam rail, mandarin duck, African pygmy goose, nēnē, selfishly a South Island Takahē, once again loads of options.
Twilight: Red fox or Striped Skunk -> Move the little penguin up here (kiwi could work too, but I'd miss the Oceania pack's statues for it lol)
Grasslands: Caracal or Blue Wildebeest: Grey crowned crane, helmeted guineafowl, southern ground hornbill, secretary bird, etc... once again a pack that should've had multiple birds.
Tropical: Like NA, this one's a bit more hesitant. I love every animal here but I can't say I'd be upset in swapping the gibbon or AWM -> Scarlet Ibis
Arid: Hoo boy... I'd swap the dama gazelle, addax, black rhino, sand cat, and/or wild ass -> for any of the birds suggested for grasslands in a heartbeat.
Oceania: After safely delivering my beloved lil' blue to Twilight, there's an open spot here for a nēnē, Victoria crowned pigeon, cape barren goose, or black swan
Eurasia: Bye bye saiga! Maybe ditch the sloth bear too (as much as I like it personally I'd happily trade it for another bird) -> mandarin duck, golden pheasant, Himalayan monal, great argus, white stork, etc...
Barnyard: Alpaca, donkey, and/or sheep -> Helmeted guineafowl, domestic duck breed, and/or domestic goose breed.

Huh, just spotted this:

Looks like they've updated something in the Barnyard pack as part of the next update! What do you think it will be? The size of the Highland Cow???
Donkey sounds? Maybe some more barnyard colormorphs? Can Tamworth pigs have color mutations? And what about the chickens?
Really makes me wish they went with a generic "domestic pig" and "domestic chicken" and just give us various colors to represent different breeds. Wouldn't have worked with every breed, bu we'd have a lot more to choose from.

That could mean any number of things. Could be a minor bug fix. Could be a tweak to one or more of the prop pieces (e.g., adding a flexicolor channel). Could be adding species enrichment with a new DLC animal. Could be a change to the highland cow like people are suggesting.

But it could be a whole mess of things.
Obviously they are giving a free Muscovy duck with every order 😊

Hard question though is there any animal in each DLC that you would trade for an habitat birds?

There are some i would, but some packs i wouldn't know what to "get rid off" to add a bird. For Barnyard for instance is easy for me, i would happily tarde both the donkey and pig for a duck and a turkey. But for Arid is a bit harder for me since yeah is ungulates galore but i like all of the ungulates we got, even the dama gazelle. I've come to like the lechwe in Wetlands even if i never needed it, but i would love a pelican or a duck instead.
I would say
Dall's Sheep for Puffin
Llama for Scarlet Ibis
Proboscis Monkey for Victoria Crowned Pigeon
Fennec Fox for Southern Ground Hornbill
European Badger for White Stork
Stripped Hyena for Secretary Bird
Asian Water Monitor for White-Faced Whistleing Duck
Dama Gazelle with Kori Bustard
Tameworth Pig with Helmeted Guineafowl
I do like a lot of the animals I mentioned I just think these birds would be better.
