You posted two random photos with no context and explained nothing…a two second search let me find your markhor photo. I could go to my local zoo and snap a takin photo. The males rather small comparatively. If I added that image and said…”look. Small takin. Point proven” I’d be in the wrong and making a poor argument…just as you did with your images.
Nearly everyone (including me) has said the size is off to some degree. We just don’t agree in this the scope that you claim.
“no context”and"explained nothing"... well....I said before that I don't want to reply to you anymore and get into a boring argument. But now it seems that I have to make some things clear to avoid more misunderstandings.
The reasons for choosing those two pictures are as follows:
1. I found that the problem is that the game encourages the mixing of takin and markhor. As a forum user said in another post, when Przewalski's horse and Bactrian camel are mixed, the problem is too big to be ignored, and when I mix these two animals, the problem is also very obvious. I consulted some practitioners and researchers in the field of animal research on this, and they agreed with me. So since the problem has arisen, we must solve it instead of ignoring it.
2. The reason for choosing these two photos is that there is no captive group of markhor in my country, so I need to use some common Internet tools(This is what many people do). But when I opened the search engine, I found a problem, that is, I could hardly find photos of these two animals in the same shot. I can only settle for the second best and find a reference object for comparison. I believe that without a reference object, humans do not have a clear understanding of the size of many objects, especially things you don't see in daily life. So a reference is very necessary, and there is no better reference than human, after all we get to see at least ourselves every day. But when I opened the search engine, I found that most of the photos of people and markhor were similar to the ones you posted. Hunters use simple photography techniques to make their prey bigger, so as to satisfy their hearts. After searching many times, I finally found a video of a keeper feeding on a FB account. It happened that the keeper and the markhor goat were in a line, which was much more reliable than those pictures that used photography techniques to make the animals look bigger, so I took a screenshot. As for the pictures of takin, there is nothing more reliable than the photographer myself, because I clearly know the situation at the shooting site (and in that picture, there are males, females, cubs, and humans as a comparison). This is why I chose it.
3. Indeed, if we use strict scientific theories to review, my choice is indeed not objective and rigorous enough, after all, they are all "individual cases". I did not take pictures of all the markhor and Sichuan takins in the world, so as to compare them with detailed average data, and I did not find the two ladies in the picture to measure their heights by hand. This is indeed my imprecise place. So in view of this imprecision, I have a suggestion. Since you have doubts about the reliability of my "no context" pictures, then in the future, any animal size or other issues in the community must be annotated, with source pictures, videos and text materials. Anything from the search engine can be rejected because of "imprecision". Is this okay? Can you ask yourself and others to do this?
4. This is my final reply to you on this issue. I don't want to waste too much saliva on something that has nothing to do with the "essence of the size of the takin and markhor".
