DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

I personally would swamp it with the brolga since I feel its more of a cultural icon for north queensland (plus it would be easier to make).
I actually had it as brolga originally and had a really tough time deciding between them, but ended up going with the black-necked stork for these reasons:
  • We already have a Grus crane whilst we don't have a stork
  • The black-necked stork has almost twice as many holdings as the brolga in Australia, at least according to Zootierliste (which is still a bit incomplete for Aus but still probably reflects that the stork is more commonly kept)
  • An animal ranging across multiple continents is always a bonus - the black-necked stork would be just as suitable for an Indian or South-east Asian area as it would be for an Australian one
  • they look rad lol
Still the brolga would be an awesome pick and I'd be thrilled with either, and in a perfect world I'd want both. Making an Australian tropical wetlands aviary with black-necked stork, brolga, magpie geese, radjah shelducks and plumed + wandering whistling ducks would be a dream.

Ah, but the brolga is the one kept in New Zealand, and therefore I must put my vote behind the brolga, too.

Overall though that's a solid and realistic DLC. I'd be pretty happy with it as it is, and consider it perfect with the brolga and lace monitor instead of the stork and perentie.

Looking at the lacking content, if it's a themed pack (and not just a random assortment like the Zookeeper pack) then I think an Arboreal pack is the best option. It'd also allow the excuse to add a few more trees to the game which we can never get enough of:

1. Golden Lion Tamarin
2. Black Howler Monkey
3. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
4. Aye-Aye
5. Southern Coati
6. Potto
7. Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine

They don't like Exhibit animals but there are a ton of options I'd like to have. But I won't include any because I doubt they'll ever add them :(

I think the chance of us getting another Australia/Oceania revisit is virtually null (but then again I thought the exact same thing until that fateful night Oceania was teased lol), but if I had to design one based on Frontier's possible new style of easy to make animals I would do it a little something like this:

PLANET%20ZOO%20DOWN%20UNDER%20ANIMAL%20PACK.png

Eastern Quoll - Made with some minor changes to the Tasmanian devil rig, the eastern quoll provides the game with a second dasyurid and the only quoll species currently kept outside Australia. They are especially attractive thanks to coming in two common colour morphs, fawn and black (pictured).

Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby - As well as giving us a wallaby species from more arid climates, the rock-wallaby would also be unique among Australian animals in the game in requiring a caprine-like rocky habitat. Hopefully it would be given a new animation to use the goat climbing mountain.

Eastern Grey Kangaroo - Temperate Australia is part of the continent that is most well-represented in-game, but it'll always feel like its missing something without its own kangaroo. Also provides a more biome-appropriate species to mix with the red-necked wallaby.

Black Swan - Should require no explanation, a second waterfowl species (even if another swan) that is extremely widespread in captivity around the globe.

Black-necked Stork - The game's first stork, the black-necked stork is an impressive and iconic bird of Australia's tropical northern wetlands, where it is commonly referred to as the jabiru (not to be confused with the South American stork of the same name). As a bonus the species also occurs in south and south-east Asia, adding more avian representation to two continents.

Freshwater Crocodile - Gives us a smaller (and better looking) alternative to the giant saltwater crocodile, and would also hopefully come with a new galloping animation when running on land. If we can have 5 North American canids a second Australian crocodile can't hurt.

Perentie - The king of Australian lizards, finally gives the continent a species of monitor lizard and is arguably the most essential missing animal when it comes to fleshing out Australia's desert heart. Plus they just look stunning.

Probably my favourite thing about this pack is how it helps to flesh out most major regions of Australia - the quoll and grey kangaroo represent the temperate regions, the perentie and rock-wallaby the deserts and the stork and crocodile the tropics (especially the great northern savannas, a vast region we have very few species for in-game), whilst the black swan occurs pretty widely.
Literally any Australian rep excites me, all of these are actually like baller picks I'm not even kidding. Freshie and jabiru (not that South American faker) my beloved.

Honestly my hope is still for something like a Children’s Zoo Pack, so I’ll just call it the Education Pack.

Education Pack
  1. Squirrel Monkey 🌟
  2. Patagonian Mara
  3. Reeves Muntjac
  4. Muscovy Duck
  5. Golden pheasant
  6. Helmeted guineafowl
  7. Black and White tegu
Now to fit with the themes of it being and “Education Pack” it would come with a bunch of cool props to use in your zoo. The basic stuff I’ve talked about for the past couple years. None of these animals should be too difficult, and I think it would be a great pairing with ZooKeeper and Americas packs. As always, it offers even more mixed species habitat options, which are some of my favorite things to build for.

Although we may not be getting any new updates, if this were to come out I'd love for the education stations to get some new stuff, like a quiz type thing or something like the animal talks but using things like skulls and antlers instead

if we got 3 birds in a pack i would ascend

Yeah I really don’t get the whole arboreal pack thing. The climbing in PZ is very janky and is probably very hard to do even for one animal. We’re already seeing some of the models not looking the best in Americas pack, it’s gonna be worse next time if all of them need to climb lol.

Currently I would predict some sort of revisit to Asia, probably South Asia. This feels probable considering what frontier is capable of design wise:

  1. Lion Tailed Macaque (Headliner)
  2. Blackbuck
  3. Gaur
  4. Asiatic Lion
  5. Tomistoma
  6. Red Muntjac
  7. Sarus Crane

I love this idea.

How about instead of the Topi it could have the Moroccan tree-climbing goat? Not that we need more goats but these really are funny.
