DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

If we still think Islands is a high chance for the next pack....
Archipelago Pack
1. Nene
2. Banded Linsang
3. Visayan Warty Pig
4. Cuban Crocodile
5. Arctic Ringed Seal
6. Victoria Crowned Pigeon
7. Northern Luzon Giant Cloud Rat
8. Milos Wall Lizard

So what do we think is next then?
Whatever the answer for that will be, all I know and all I have to do is do nothing but wait until later October to November. Planet Zoo creators won't earlier give clues and hints of what's coming soon even if we ask or convince to them as that's like cheating or spoiling.

As for me, I hope whatever the next pack (and anniversary if there'll be) will feature the rest and last of all eight species of bears, American black bear, my most wanted and hoped for since the rest of Africa's Big Five had been officially confirmed. The seconds after that are Masai giraffe and one Australian monitor lizard.

Is there unlocked at the end of every month? As in - will we know soon if we are still getting packs this year?
If the answer is no, then they won't say anything about it, but if they don't say anything about it, there's no guarantee the answer is no.

A future console bundle is confirmed, if it contains all 3 remaining DLCs then it's likely the end on PC, but it's probably 2 like the others, which might infer a bundle for the remainder and a future PC DLC, but it might not.

I would like to add that basically since the unlocked streams became a thing the one directly after a pack release has a statement telling us the next one is coming even when that was 6 months away so its a fair bet that if we are getting another dlc we will be told by the end of the month and if we dont get any statement there are at that point no plans to make another dlc

So... i've been thinking what to expect for the next DLC (and the future).

It was clear after these past two DLC's (ZK and Americas) that we shouldn't expect anything groundbreaking in terms of gameplay features or updates (so no aquatic or aviary systems, no exhibit overhaul (null walls may still be a possibility though), no better herding or social system for the animals, perching enrichment items (or any enrichment item really)) or any animal that implies a lot of resources to be made or isn't directly based on an already existing animal (so no secretary bird, tree kangaroo, echidna, pelicans, spider monkeys, tamarins, patagonian mara, burrowing owl, roadrunner, spoonbill, ibis, gerenuk, musk ox, etc). We also we shouldn't expect more than one foliage piece per update / pack. Of course not full building set either (so mesh or the log cabin a lot of people want also not likely).

So what do we think is next then? And would you guys prefer for them to keep puting out DLCs, even if we are just going to get animal packs full of clones just with improved visuals? I think i've personally reached a point in which there are a few clones i would still like (blackbuck, gelada, serval, greater kudu, honey badger, nile croc, perentie, an asian deer, a duck, black swan, rockhopper penguin (idk if this one really counts since it would require new animations imo) etc.) but not a lot... most of the animals i still have real interest in are pretty unique i think and i don't really expect them anymore so i think i'll be ok if next DLC is the last.

Some animals could indeed benefit for having a high quality alternative like lions (asiatic lion?), tigers (sumatran?), bears (ABB and EBB?), zebras (Grevy´s?), etc. and some of those i wouldn't hate to be honest but is not the kind of content i look forward to.
While I'm also concerned about the lack of groundbreaking updates in recent DLCs (I was expecting the trend to end with this last one, but alas), IF we can still use Planet Coaster 1 as a clue about the development of Planet Zoo, the last DLC (Ghostbusters) came with a big free update (shooting dark ride).

I think having a small canid for Sub-Saharan Africa would be nice. I think either the Black-Backed Jackal or Bat-Eared Fox would fit this role nicely.
Agreed! :)
That being said I still want the Serval more.
Why not both? Haha. Although IF I have to pick one I'm going with a small canid easy. We already have the Caracal, that kind of fills the Serval niche. Maybe I have too much dog lover bias...

Anyway I hope PZ1 will be finished in 1.20, the poor quality and the numerous cloned animals are getting more and more boring. I hope they will seriously prepare to make PZ2 before the reputation of PZ1 gets worse.

Honestly it’s very hard to guess where this is gonna go, now especially when in the last 3 DLCs the top 3 Meta Wishlist animals have been largely ignored.

So I think “we get what we “want”, not what we “needed””. We wanted the black howler, we got the saki. People wanted a new antelope, we got the dik dik. People wanted more birds for the Americas, we got the flamingo and Rhea.

I think it’s obvious Frontier is listening, they just have a lot of factors to consider. I think with the free update, and pieces, being what they are we can guess we have a smaller team for Planet Zoo. I think we can also guess they might be saving some animals for a sequel, or they are unable to do said animal. What gets frustrating is it seems like some animals get a ton of work while others don’t, I’m gonna guess there must be some work around we don’t see.

So I don’t know what will happen next, however I’m gonna guess things might turn out like this:
  1. If you want the Walrus in the Coastal pack, expect another pinniped like the harbor seal or South American Sealion. Also don’t be surprised if the birds in this coastal pack are something like the gentoo penguin, and if we are lucky a pelican or ocean based waterfowl off the swan rig. It depends if birds will be used as filler, or they get the bush dog treatment.
  2. If you want the secretary bird, expect the grey crowned crane in a safari pack.
  3. If you are expecting more monkeys (like the howler or spider) expect to get the squirrel monkey.
  4. If you are expecting a duck hope and prey we get that waterfowl right again.
  5. If you are expecting more habitat reptiles, I honestly think we would only see another crocodilian. But a tortoise, and tegu off the monitor rig, isn’t off the question.
  6. Of you are expecting a Musk Ox, expect some other ungulate or caprine instead.
Or at least, this is what I think to expect if we get another pack. Ask yourself what have you been asking for, and think more generalized and less specific. I really want a white faced whistling duck, but I think a Muscovy duck is more likely.

My most wanted mammal could be considered a clone and is far from the top...
So, yes, I'd like a few more DLCs for PZ1...

Yeah that's what i was refering too. Is not realistic to expect the most wanted animals because all of them need quite a bit of resources dedicated to them to pull them off.

Animals i don't think we should expect anymore:

Secretary
Shoebill
Tree kangaroo
Short beaked echidna
Hyrax
Musk ox
Gerenuk
Pelican
Howler
Spider.monkey
Tamarins
Patagonian mara
Walrus

Animals we could expect instead

Grey crowned crane
Another penguin (Rockhopper are unlikely imo but not as resources consuming as other
Another wallaby
Perentie
Another crocodile
Ducks (i don't think they are as imposible)
Small deer or larger deer
Blackbuck / Kudu
Harbor seal or another sea lion
Honey badger
Serval
A marmot maybe
More and more goats 🤪

If it turns out to be around the 6th Anniversary, of course an animal is a given.

The final update for JWE2 was fairly tame, it was a standard DLC and Kelp (3 variants), it also came directly after a DLC with no free content update, so there's a potential parallel there. It was earlier than expected, being only 2 months after the previous DLC.

The lack of free content could be due to the next one being closer, like June/July, in time to be in the currently estimated late July console bundle. On paper that'd also be a reason to go primarily for clones in both packs.

At this point, I am expecting one more DLC, which I expect (and kinda hope) to be the final.

Why hope? Because of a number of reasons. I'm not saying I lost my excitement for new DLCs, or that there are no more animals I deem necessary for a good zoo. After all, we still miss coatis, maras, agoutis, crowned cranes, pelicans, a decent number of tropical monkeys, musk ox, and some other essentials.
At the same time, I don't think we would realistically get any groundbreaking packs. I'm not saying that I'm not amazingly happy with the saki, bush dog, rhea and American flamingo, but real groundbreakers like fish and flying birds will only come in PZ2. Meanwhile, PZ2 will most likely come with some important fixes like the path system.
And that is something I'm excited for. At the pace I build, I won't be able to incorporate all current animals that would fit in my zoo, even if we get three more years till a sequel. Hence, I'd rather continue with what is there now, have one more DLC and build my excitement for PZ2.

That said, I do have some hopes that we will receive a nice farewell pack. Honestly, I think very few themes are left (another reason to not keep adding new packs), and I'm stuck between a final safari pack (nice reference to the game's original name) or another unthemed pack like Zookeeper's DLC. Two decent but reasonable options to me would be:

Safari Animal DLC:
  • Greater Kudu
  • Serval
  • Honey Badger
  • Nile Crocodile
  • Grey Crowned Crane
  • Helmeted Guineafowl
  • Gerenuk

Worldwide Animal DLC:
  • Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
  • Reeve's Muntjac
  • Musk Ox
  • Any african species from the Safari DLC
  • South-American Coati
  • American Black Bear
  • Emperor Penguin

Worldwide Animal DLC:
  • Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo Serval
  • Reeve's Muntjac
  • Musk Ox Blackbuck
  • Any african species from the Safari DLC --> Grey crowned crane
  • South-American Coati
  • American Black Bear
  • Emperor Rockhopper penguin
There fixed it for you

Note: except for the penguin the ones crossed i think are unlikely to expect them at this point and i just picked species that i think are more likely to come instead. The Rockhopper is just a better pick than the emperor. Or of even the Rockhopper is too much work for some reason i prefer something that doesn't look almost exactly like the king penguin... Maybe gentoo.
