DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

I didn't get my favorite, but its close enough. Did you know? Tanukis are related to foxes. :) They are an unique branch of foxes just like the bat-eared fox. They are arguably cooler than Bat-eared foxes in that they climb! Also, it will be cool to see how they compare to the raccoon. I hope the tanuki comes with color morphs! ❤️
I'm surprised there aren't birds, so I hope to see an avian pack (OR at least a pack with high proportion of birds like Oceania had) coming soon!
Yes, that's why I'm ok with the gray fox not coming. The tanuki kinda sorta does the same thing. I just hope they have the climbing mechanic. But since they gave the bush dog swimming mechanics, I don't doubt that the tanuki will have climbing needs

I had 12 Asian species that could have fit the theme of this pack in my top 50 wishlist. I got 4 (Lion-Tailed Macaque, Blackbuck, Tanuki and Père David's Deer). Honey Badger was close to my top 50 so I'm happy with it too. I overlooked Nilgai simply because I prefer Blackbuck but it's definitely not a bad choice.

A bit sad for Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey and Langur which are #6 and #14 of my wishlist but we weren't going to have 2 monkeys in just one pack.

All in all, good job Frontier :)

Glad other people are enjoying this but I really can't be bothered with box-checking every individual antelope/canine/etc that anyone wants when so many huge groups of animals crucial to zoos (remember, this is a zoo creator, not just a "favorite animals" game) are still basically absent from the game and being overlooked at perfect opportunities to introduce them. Pretty sure we now (again?) have more canids than total birds in the game, or it's at least very close.

I'm ok if the bat-eared fox doesn't come. I feel like we have an amazing representation of dog-like animals. More would always be welcome to me though. Haha. I'm so grateful for Frontier's support of this game.

Despite the elephant a very very good roster. Finally we have Indian antelopes and an Asian deer. Although it's ungulate heavy again, I think all three are great and very needed additions. Can't wait to finally build a mixed Indian habitat for rhinos, blackbuck, nilgai and maybe water buffalo. :)
I'm actually very happy they chose Asia and not India as a theme.
No bird is a bit of a bummer though. A pheasant, crane or duck should have replaced the elephant

Missed the excitement of the actual announcement - too busy watching the Donkey Kong Bananza direct.

In short - really very pleased with the macaque, ratel and blackbuck, deer is also a good addition, while the raccoon dog, nilgai and elephant are all animals I would have much preferred something else.

And, honestly, really pleased to get a new butterfly as well - great to see a species representing a whole new part of the world.

I absolutely get what you mean, but also this is one of the few pack with a monkey. Which means, two packs in a row with a monkey in it ! So, even if it's more and more likely we're never gonna have what we need in terms of birds, at least there's another significant weakness in the roster which is getting slowly patched up.

That, and honestly south asian ungulates and asian deers were two big groups of animals basically absent from the game, so in terms of regional representativity we've had much worse packs.

Question about Japanese Racoon Dogs for the people who know: Do they all come in that beige/brown color or do they also have the classic gray/black/white coloration of the mainland species?
Fine I'll look it up myself

One of the most requested has made it
India got a monkey
Frontier has to give us an oddball here and there despite no demand for
Indias top antelopes made it at last
Conservation got a huge rep
the most requested canid

Sorry no bovine, reptile, bird or feline and bummed that there’s no cobra, maybe frontier has offically abandoned exhibits.

With the tanuki, now all I want is a golden jackal (I will take a gray fox) then I am satisfied with canids.
Now I believe a dedicated India pack is out.

Next up I theorize will go toward Australia, Europe or Africa or a mix of for the dlcs tv at could come this year.

I am really stoked about the scenery potential here. More lanterns, new benches, some new marketplace-type pieces, whatever the "light blocks" are... Assuming they didn't go full "bloat count" on us, and it's 100+ pieces and 40% of them are just duplicates in different colors, there's a lot of potential here!

I would have gone with a muntjac over the Pere David's Deer, frankly, and I would have expected Frontier to do so too given how common it is in England (especially as an invasive species) and its potential for mixing with birds and even the red panda. The blackbuck and nilgai are fine but both have a reputation in NA as roadside zoo/safari park animals rather than things you'd see in accredited zoos. And the less said about the elephant and raccoon dog the better.

I'm also, again, skewed as an American who builds based on North American zoos--not a single one of these animals are common in North American zoos (some are entirely absent, and the lion-tailed macaque is being phased out and is only at one or two zoos), whereas animals like the muntjac, Demoiselle crane, mandarin duck, and golden pheasant are extremely common. And at this point you have to imagine that Frontier is intentionally avoiding heavily-requested and easily-makeable (existing rigs) birds in favor of relapsing on its worst habits of ungulate/carnivore spam.

To be clear if I could halve the number of canids and antelope ingame and replace them all with fowl, waterfowl, and wading birds I would do it in a heartbeat. But at this point if Frontier is going to continue doing this I'd rather they just wrap up development sooner rather than later so I can go all-in on modding without worrying about re-downloading them every time a new DLC comes out.
