DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Have you noticed that ever since the wolverine from the Eurasia Animal Pack, we haven’t seen any animals from the top of the meta wishlist added to the game?

It feels a bit odd, doesn’t it?

Almost like they’re intentionally holding them back for Planet Zoo 2.

It’s not like they haven’t had opportunities to include at least a few of them in the Zookeepers or Americas packs.

I mean atleast one has a pretty obvious reason as to why its not here :D

I dont really believe in the holding them back for PZ2, like is PZ2 having a coati or secretary really that big a draw in the grand scheme of things? Especially when you will assumably lose others?

It's because that's not the point that was being argued. It's not "coati and secretary bird are animals that are a big draw for PZ2" and it never was.

Whether it would be in the base game or in DLCs, Frontier is going to want and going to have to sell new animals that weren't in the original. Not only because a large group of people would otherwise say "all the DLCs are is us paying for things we already had with a bird and a fish tacked on top"; but also because you want to please people who have no interest in birds or fish or even both.

So obviously Frontier is going to keep some animals from this game so they can sell them either in the sequel or in a DLC of the sequel. That's just common sense. Coati, secretary bird, walrus, etc. are simply possible candidates because they're still relatively "well-known" animals (compared to stuff like for instance, mouse deer), nothing more and nothing less. It's really not about any specific animals that would have a big draw or have the ability to win people over, it's just the keeping their options open.

But 3 monkeys back to back? That's insane.
Baboon in Zookeepers, saki in Americas, and now macaque in Asia
and we got 2 in one pack
Genuine question: is there a zoo game where the biodiversity relative to real-life zoos isn't massively skewed towards large mammals? Excluding the dinosaur ones, obviously.
planet zoo is by far the closest most have like 4 birds total
The forum is also very EU focused for some reason. So it skews the results.
Its not that skewed its probably just the timing the are alot of southern hemisphere peeps here at certain times,

I honestly have mixed feelings about this pack I knows its going to grow on me but the picks while all (minus elephant) are really solid picks nothing stands out to me as fun and unique and theming seems flat. Like on paper the pack is great the vibes are just off.

I feel like we haven't really seen much of the theming. At least by my read. There's a few little things in the screenshots but unless I'm missing something the vast majority of things are in-game already so... There's still hope.

I meant the theming around the animals. They dont feel like a cohesive unit to me like half the animals have strong ties to arid india then the raccoon dog is just there, the peres davids deer while good doesnt give the feel of an east asian animal as its more wetlands rather than the cold forest typically associated with the region.
The animals whilst all technically being asian just doent feel like a wholistic representation of asia or fall in theming elsewhere.

This has been a theme for the last three packs. The Zookeeper pack was basically half of a mountain/highland pack with the dik-dik, tortoise, and sifaka tacked on. Americas felt like a Latin America theme that was afraid to fully commit and so had the coyote and bighorn.

and I had the exact same problem with them. though both are actually better in this regard than asia. americas had tropical and arid themes splitting the group pretty well in half in half as well as a fairly well rounded distribution.
zookeeper went heavy on mountains and arid africa but both were coherent within the pack

No chance given the leak says the challenge will be over by then
Ok, I was positively surprised that the dlc will be sooner though. However, we can see for ourselves that it's coming out on June 25, and the community challenge has been going on since the 24th, so that's no indicator that it has to be before the launch.... also Wednesday surprised me with the release date, but positively of course, it is better to get a week earlier 😁

I'm honestly happy with the package and its contents (and yes as I look at the elephant I partly understand why it is there, there is no cat, dog, bear, they gave something big as a "characteristic" encouraging species for people who are less familiar with animals, at least I think so, because the composition of the package in general is of animals that are not rather strongly known among the public, like zookeepers - that's why they had a bear...).
Anyway, regardless of the fact of having a third elephant, I'm glad we're getting ungulates (yes for me more ungulates is always a plus). And I look forward to the nilgai 🥰

It's a pity that there is no bird (that's how I look at you elephant) but it's hard, for so many years I managed to get used to it 🕯️🥲

Having a butterfly in the update allows the use of WE for players without dlc, also a smart move. The only question is whether this is the last dlc 🤔

I didnt say before it started I said before it finished since the animals were apart of the challenge it had to come before the challenge finished on the 30th the 24th just so happened to be the tuesday before the stream so was the perfect date but I guess they wanted it to release on the stream night

If we get Planet Zoo 2 I can see the following scenario playing out on this forum.

Planet Zoo 2 will start with the top 10 most requested animals in it, and all popular Planet ZOo 1 animals, it leaves out mistakes like Himalayan Brown Bear and Bonobo though, because it makes space for less cloney mistakes.

I hope I'm wrong and NOBODY will cry over Himalyan Brown Bears not getting in PLanet Zoo EVER. But I'm sure a few of you will miss it and ask for it. I really dislike such situations.

I hope they keep the top 10 most wanted animals for one big ending DLC though, I really need my Shoebill and Secretary Bird in Planet Zoo 1, and not in 2, which I won't buy until a few years in when you can buy it with many DLC included

Also about the Pere Davis Deer not showing the MALE MODEL, it worries me to be honest, I think they gonna mess up the antlers on this one, aren't these the deer that have very plant-like antlers with all kinds of water plants entangled to them? I'm sure they leave that detail out, and so they didn't show the males until you buy the pack
