DLC21 Speculation

I never said it was gonna be part of a bundle, it's always been a weird exception in formatting. That doesn't mean it's not a DLC pack, however.
I don't think anybody denying that it's a DLC. It's more like it's this weird format that doesn't fit standard DLCs (animal packs too) and the fact that it's just called the Deluxe Upgrade and not a full pack. For simplicity purposes, it's just better to ignore it as it's own DLC and speculate on an upcoming "20th" DLC pack

The Deluxe Content is a DLC technically... Since its content you download...
However, I think when the community refers to DLC they are referring to content that was added after the initial launch of the game. So Arctic is the first DLC thought of as a DLC.

Maybe for sheer convenience, but ultimately what matters to people is if it's free or requires purchase. If someone's asking how to get Komodo dragons, you can imagine the confusion when people tell them to buy a DLC pack that doesn't exist.

It´s the Deluxe version of the base game, so an upgraded base game.

But honestly, this is such a non discussion. Who even cares, as long as we know which one we are referring to.

Love your optimism @Villanelle 😃 I think at this point we can't rule out anything anymore. Frontier has surprised us so often lately.

Yesterday I had to kill some time while sitting in the train, so I developed a possible roadmap for the final DLCs. I made two different versions, one more realistic one with two DLCs and the second one with four DLCs. I tried to keep it as realistic as possible, so I did not include every highly requested animal and not every one which would probably need more effort.
Tell me what you think about my ideas!

Version 1 (2 DLCs):

The Americas Animal Pack

1. Coyote
2. Bighorn sheep
3. White-faced saki
4. American flamingo
5. Greater rhea
6. South American coati
7. Patagonian mara

Around the World Animal Pack
1. Squirell monkey
2. Pere David's deer
3. Serval/ocelot
4. Nile crocodile
5. Musk ox
6. Goodfellow's tree kangaroo
7. Great white pelican

Anniversary animal: American black bear

Version 2 (4 DLCs):

The Americas Animal Pack

1. Coyote
2. Bighorn sheep
3. White-faced saki
4. American flamingo
5. Greater rhea
6. South American coati
7. Patagonian mara

Temperate Animal Pack
1. Pere David's deer
2. Chinese muntjac deer
3. Mandarin duck
4. Raccoon dog
5. Dalmatian pelican
6. North American river otter
7. Short-beaked echidna

Anniversary animal: American black bear

Safari pack
1. Serval
2. Honey badger
3. Gerenuk
4. Greater kudu
5. Black and white colobus monkey
6. Secretary bird
7. Grey crowned crane

Around the World Animal Pack
1. Lion-tailed macaque
2. Blackbuck
3. Ocelot
4. Nile crocodile
5. Musk ox
6. Goodfellow's tree kangaroo
7. Wapiti

Anniversary animal: Squirell monkey

Would the African leopard then be a DLC animal? It didn't get its own anniversary folder like the other ones. That ends up falling apart too. So something that's clear and unambiguous would be thus: if it is listed on this page and has a purple side banner labelled "DLC", then it is DLC.
Look if you want to continue counting it like that, feel free to do so. Ain't nobody going to stop you. When people talk about the DLCs, they're talking about Content1 to Content18, so the next DLC will be part of Content19 and therefor people are going to keep calling it the 19th DLC.

Nobody's going to change their way of counting DLCs man, if you want this to be the hill you die on be my guest but man it's a really weird choice 😂

I mean I know we are all riding this high right now, and DLC 20 certainly seems likely. But are we really gonna keep doing this forever? I mean DLC 21?

Sure, why not. I do think the one after this Coyote/Americas one will be the last, but I can always hope for more, there are still so many animals I wish were in game.
honestly i think it depends on how frontier is doing, specially planet coaster 2 the worse they do the better it is for us

I mean, to be honest, maybe, when now all the packs are also available on console (exception of course the 2024 packs and the America-thing-Pack), maybe they have more sources to work on new packs and maybe, big maybe, we get 4 again? Another indicator could be, that we get this pack in the week before easter, like it used to be in 2020, 2021,2022 and 2023. In 2024 we got it later, around world earth day.

It's not an indicator I'm afraid, last year they did also use that Easter release date, they simply used it for the console release. This time around there is no console version to release, hence why the DLC gets it again.

but it is true that the people working on the console now will be free soon so where is frontier going to put those human resources?

For starters, there's still two more packs to port if they haven't done so already. The fact that the next DLC doesn't come on multi-platform seems to indicate that at least they did not have the manpower to do it right away. So I don't know how soon they'll be free to start with.

That being said, nobody knows. They could be moved to JWE3, they could be moved to PC2, they could be moved to work on a PZ sequel... There's so many variables that we don't know to make any statement on whether we get 4 DLCs again this year.

The one thing we do know is the reason why they didn't use the Easter slot for DLCs last year; simply because they wanted to release the console version then. Which makes sense, it's one of the two times in the year where there's usually school vacations and a holiday where kids get presents/money.

It's very uhm-actually on your part, but if you really want to be pedantic about it you should say it's 21 because the music that was released on Steam is technically also "downloadable content".

We've long agreed upon that we count the DLCs based on their corresponding update number; there's no need to deviate from that lol.
well that might change soon if the new pack doesnt come with a new update. However I do agree that the deluxe upgrade doesnt count because its functionally a premium or preorder bonus for the game.

given that at this point they arent busy porting console anymore and are clearly trying to produce packs to save the company we may see a return of the 4 per year model because we are getting the final bundle next month (I think) we assume that the americas pack will get another dlc to add to a bundle with it which if we are keeping track of both dlc timelines will put the next bundle and the next dlc at almost the exact same time.

bundles usually release every 2 months (july)
on the 4 dlc a year model dlc are released every 3 months (july)

now they could stop there since we expect an announcement of planet zoo 2 near the end of the year for sometime next year but I think we could see another packs to pad out the time in between and an announcement of the sequel at the start of next year for a November release.

Also looking at the remaining yellow regions, and assuming all essential species are needed for green- We could totally get all regions to green with one final (albeit unrealistic) pack, just do:

Tree Kangaroo
Blackbuck
Grey Langur
Patagonian Mara
Coati
Golden Lion Tamarin
Black Howler Monkey
This pack plus an Aviary Pack with Sandhill Crane, Secretary Bird, Nene, White-faced Whistling Duck, Mandarin Duck, Golden Pheasant, and Victoria Crowned Pigeon as well as a few exhibit species for the anniversary would finish the game pretty decently IMO. I hope for 220 species, personally.
