Do ED store proceeds go into Elite development?

In the same way that any Road Tax you pay to the Government pays for the roads....

Except public officials are voted into office to spend money toward "X" project, FD isn't a democracy where the customers get to decide where the money gets spent.

I think you may have missed my point, which is that Road Tax does not get put into a special separate fund account to be used to fix roads. All Taxes beit for roads, alcohol, fuel etc etc get put into the same account / fund / whatever. To think otherwise is nieve.

Nope, didn't miss the point- merely responding to the whole analogy of people being able to decide where a privately owned company spends its money versus public utility/offices and democratic processes. ;)

Ahh, indeed. Completely agree, the whole "I spent x monies on this so I am entitled to get x thingies done" is weird. No, you spent x monies for what has been done :)

I've also made this point, however, the LEP's also respond in kind with "I'm entitled to X because I own a lifetime pass", for which isn't really clearly defined or planned to begin with.

Ultimately this is FD's fault for setting expectations with LEP's to apparently have a blank check on what they want to see in the game.

I've spent close to $400 this last year alone
(but that doesn't somehow entitle me to run FD :))

I simply consider it money well spent toward a game I enjoy.

Consider the few people who spent upwards of 6000+, if not more, during the Kickstarter. They don't complain anymore, they either play or they don't.

Threads like this suggest that some people don't like the fact that Frontier work on games other than Elite: Dangerous.

But have those people considered that some of the store proceeds from sales of Planet Coaster and eventually Jurassic World: Evolution also go into development of Elite: Dangerous?

There's a saying: "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater".

Before you "demand" that Frontier take all their development staff off Planet Coaster and Jurassic World: Evolution to work solely on Elite: Dangerous, don't throw out other methods of income by abandoning these other games.

Without these other games to bring in other forms of income, there may not be enough money to provide enough resources to develop Elite: Dangerous and the game may end up being killed off (speculation, not necessarily fact).

... then again, maybe that's what people like the OP really want (ED killed off)...

Actually, it's not the OP. He started the thread with a question and it was hijacked by trolling antagonist. So, business as usual.

Then why deliver it now and not when space legs releases?
It's basically a Divide and Conquer method of solving huge projects. You break it down in smaller parts and implement them in increments, and if you do it in modules that are interesting and useful, you can build all these modules and eventually get to the final product with all the functionality.

It's like Elon Musk working on self-driving cars at Tesla. Why not release a fully electric car roadster when all and everything is done in 20 years? Why did he release a roadster 10 years ago? Wouldn't it be better that he developed a space flying Tesla all the way, and release it in 2158 or something? Because you have to do what you can now, and build towards the end. It's a process of taking one step at a time, until you reach your destination.

Besides, the Holo-me was important to have for Multi-crew anyway. Why allow other people in the cockpit and they all look the same?

You're probably more spot on here than you know, because it wasn't released "the way they wanted it to be", they want FD to kill it off and get started with ED2 instead.

The game has been out three years. Long enough for people to have burnt out. A "reboot" would attract some players, and perhaps lessons learned could create a new codebase from the ground up. Highly unlikely that would occur, due to the cost and time involved.

To be honest, with the improved graphics and fixed core, they could easily market the Beyond as ED2 and it would work. We've seen game sequels with less work done between instalments.
The only people who would mind this would be LEP guys. But hey, they tend to say "I've got my money worth of this game already" anyway. :p

First, I didn't claim that they worked on Beyond and JW. I said it's possible, that's all. How do you know they didn't work on Beyond or JW or Season 3 (atmospheric planets for example) in 2015. Do you own a DeLorean? Why do you believe they only started work on JW in 2017 when they want to release it in 2018?

They've delivered 2.3 with a barely-functioning multicrew at a minimum viable product standard over 8 months ago, it hasn't been developed further and remains very unstable. That was when they didn't have enough "time and resources" to develop it properly. They delivered 2.4 to a standard that is probably below a minimum viable product and in many ways it has been even more underwhelming than multicrew. FD has shown us a clear pattern of underresourcing Elite and delivering a minimum viable product during the past two years of Horizons development and you expect anyone to believe that they were somehow doing any significant work on Beyond or atmospheric planets during that time?

Nope, the money belongs to FDev.

I'm going to stop you right there because that's not correct at all. When a business takes money for a product and fails to deliver what was described then the money they collected doesn't "belong" to them if the customer requests a refund. The only reason that most players haven't done this is because Engineers and SLFs amount to essentially a "level cap increase" for ship performance and a player essentially requires the 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 expansions to play the game in Open without being dramatically underpowered both in PVE and PVP interactions. FD also went into full P2W territory with 2.3 by allowing players to purchase second accounts for the AFK multicrew pip bonus and rebuy discount. Due to the way that FD sold Horizons it's really not practical for a player who has invested a large amount of effort into Engineering to revert back to the base game without losing a massive amount of progress and putting themselves at a massive disadvantage with any type of ship combat activities. That doesn't mean that FD didn't have very clear obligations to customers when developing those expansions. It just means that the way FD went about marketing and developing Horizons ended up making it very difficult for players to do anything about it once we saw what FD actually delivered.

FD has clearly realized that they can't pull this trick on players again so they had to abandon the pre-paid season model entirely. Players might have allowed FD to get away with this once but they aren't falling for it a second time and that is why FD isn't even trying to charge players for Beyond.

Whether it is an appropriate standard or not is your opinion.

It's not an "opinion" when FD tells players about their plans for muticrew and then instead delivers a minimum viable product that does not include those planned features.

So you do agree with me that it's just your opinion and not a fact? Do you apologise to everyone you lied to when you claimed you have evidence? Do you admit that you completely misinterpreted the financial report?
Or are you just going to ignore how I have proven you wrong again and spread the same lies next time?

So, by your own words, multicrew is viable. Such as if I had the minimum to make a cup of coffee, I could make a cup of coffee. Your argument appears to be that FD didn't develop it to your expectations. While that might be a capital offense to you, it means nothing to me. It probably means something in-between that to most other players.

For me, 2,4 meets expectations. It evidently didn't meet yours. Maybe you need to lower your expectations to a more reasonable level.

Beyond promises to improve the game by leaps and bounds. But feel free to expect more than is reasonable there, too.

So you do agree with me that it's just your opinion and not a fact?

That's literally the opposite of what I've said. I've provided clear references and quotes to support my statements. You haven't done this at all and are making completely ridiculous claims. You're the one making the ridiculous claim that FD was somehow doing any significant work on Beyond or atmospheric planets at a time when we were getting a buggy, unstable, minimum viable product for 2.3 and 2.4. That is simply not a credible claim.

At this point it's quite clear that you are simply trolling. Fortunately that is an issue I can deal with very easily as I have plenty of room on my ignore list.

LOL .. Devari will soon have in his ignore list everyone who oppose his expert opinions :D ... but, well ... then he may see soon only his posts here on this forum :D

I completely avoided using my ignore list on these forums for over two years. Apparently the state of the game has gotten to the point that many players have resorted to trolling to try to deflect criticism of FD's decisions and that is when it stops being an actual discussion. I have no interest in engaging in a "discussion" with trolls.

And it's apparent that anyone who disagrees with you is a "troll". Apparently, that's the majority of this forum because MANY people disagree with your assessment and when they ask you for further proof you just call them a troll and put them on ignore.

I could care less what your "opinion" of me is, I'm going to keep calling you out for putting out misinformation, and you'd better believe others will too.

Well, to give you some credit, you obviously spent allot time with searching for different info etc ... but there always can exist more different views on the same thing, no matter how strong "evidence" you can put together. I would say that people here can more likely resist the urge to play a troll game with you, if you can accept a fact that they have the right to have different opinion.
