Do ED store proceeds go into Elite development?

I spent 40 pounds in the store over Xmas, in part as this years fee for the game... beyond.

I wonder if more Cmdrs would do this if there were guarantees that this money would go directly towards the speedier development of the game…?

Anyone?

I don't KNOW that it will, but I'd like to think that the £470 I've spent in the last two years (in my main account alone) has helped accelerate development... :-/

It goes into the bank. When they need to spend money on development, they take money out of the bank.

Hobbling FDev by requiring all store proceeds be spent only on game development is unrealistic and a bad business decision. It would actually add more expenses that aren't game development, so I'd say bad idea is bad at this point.

That is too simplistic a way to look at it. Frontier use money to, well, exist. Just like any other company. In some sense, development of a game is just a by-product of having employees and having to keep them busy. :D

Like every company, they have a financial plan and fixed workload for the employees. So unless they start making so much money, that they can double the staff, the game development will continue at a fixed rate, no matter how much money we spend on liveries. And yes, I also spent a lot. During the year it must have been over £500 as some of my favourite underdog ships started to get some attention.
But the company needs a sustained revenue, not random cash injections.

It's important to remember that our spending in the store, funds the shiny new BMW cars as well as the game.

To be honest - my money are used for their salary (Well, they're not, of course, not in this direct sense, but I like to think that) and what they do with their salary is their business. And I would be disapponted if they DIDN'T use it on cars, hookers and pizza. :D
I want my devs to have a good time. Good time means enjoying their work. Enjoying their work means an awesome game. :)

Pizza, I think.
I remember when we used to buy them Pizza but they don't ask anymore. :(
So, I guess they order their own.
So yeah, pizza...and depends on how many toppings they have in relation to how much development we get.
This is how the world works after all y'know.

Frontier Developments is a publically traded company and they publish an Annual Report every year that you can read and download. All the information you need to know about the various development decisions and financial information about Elite and FD's other games can be found there.

To summarize, Elite draws in massive revenue but a large part of that revenue is used to subsidize the development of FD's other games instead of being used to develop Elite properly. FD makes no attempt to hide this as it is very attractive for shareholders. It is not particularly attractive to the Elite playerbase however.

I wonder if Nestle gets mail asking if the money spent on Kit Kats only goes to Kit Kats and not the other dozen or so candy they make? Or Coke to make sure that their precious Coke$ doesn't infiltrate the Sprite or Fanta line? Do people that buy 747s insist no money go into Dreamliners? What a deep way to start the new year.

As far as I know, Boeing doesn't have a forum pack full of fanboys and doom sayers, so no, they don't get that. :p

If FDev is anything like the other medium to large companies I've worked on, the most likely place your money went is the development of Jurassic World since it's the current big R&D project. If it's any consolation, when JW comes out, it will fund ED since it will be the bigger money earner.

It's not GTA they should earn it.
