Do engineered mods get removed when upgrading a suit?

I bought a pre-engineered Mav suit with expanded backpack cap, grade 3. I am now wanting to upgrade the suit to grade 4, but the backpack capacity stats drops to non-engineered numbers. Do I lose the mod when I upgrade the suit? If so, does that just apply the unique pre-modded suits, or all suits when upgrading with eng mods installed? What would be the point in engineering a suit/weapon before grade 5 if that was the case?! Maybe it's just displaying the changes to the suit without accounting for mods (which would be either stupid or a bug)? Anyone have experience with this?

I'm scared to test it because it is such a hassle to regain the necessary mats. If anyone has learned this the hard way and can elaborate, I would appreciate it.
 
I upgraded a TK Eclipse from 2 to 3 with an increased accuracy mod on it and it kept the mod after upgrade. I suppose the suit shows the lower capacity because it's technically not modded in the preview.

Confirmed! It works just fine. Upgraded and kept the extra space :) It's the preview not accounting for the mods. Good call!
 
Upgrading does not remove a mod. My suit is now G5 with 2 mods. Added both mods at G3.

However make sure the mods are what you want long term. They can not be removed. So think it through carefully.
