Very predictable thread anyway....
I don't grind. I play ED moment-by-moment, not trying to force my way trough it.
You're doing it yourselves.

I feel no matter how hard you attempt to define grinding, people will insist on redefining it rather than even accept there is a problem, or answer the poll honestly. Denial is always the hardest stage for people to pass, especially when they have invested so much time in this Sisyphean task. Also I agree this is an important issue, and no amount of hateful snark on the part of your detractors will change this.. +rep for bringing up the issue :) No doubt then next post will be another attempt to misconstrue what you mean, oh look ...

Arrogant and patronising twaddle.

People know what he means. The ones who disagree just don't play the game in the way that he is suggesting.

But of course you knew that.

This poll is just silly. The word "grind" is laced with negative connotations. You might as well ask if people like spending time on dull, repetitive activities. When phrased that way, few will say yes. And if they do say yes, they'll probably just do it to make the point that they enjoy taking their time playing the game.

When you boil it down to the nuts and bolts virtually EVERY game is a grind. COD = shooting at people over, and over again. WoW = fighting mobs over and over again; fetching stuff; upgrading gear. Chess = moving the same pieces on the same board over and over again. Heck, even life is a grind: getting up, having breakfast, going to work, coming home and going to sleep. What a grind!

If you find yourself "grinding" and don't like it, there's a remarkably simple solution: do something else!

Did not vote. But no, I do not enjoy grinding - So I simply don't do it in Elite.

There are more than enough things to do in order to mix it up and avoid grinding, today I've been;
• Doing some COURIER missions for Navy progression.
• Doing some DESTROY SKIMMER missions for Navy progression.
• Light exploration by flying back and fourth in the bubble.

Things I'm gonna be doing in a bit;
• Bounty Hunting in HazRES.
• Doing some TRADING missions for Navy progression.

I have no problem doing the same 'thing' over and over again in a game, as I did in Elite '84, Frontier and First Encounters. As long as I find that 'thing' is enjoyable, I'll continue to do it.

Someone have to say it.. Problem is not the game has grind. EVERY game has gring. 1984 elite HAS GRIND. So yes, problem is YOU. You grinding that is why. Bu i am playing. I am not grinding like you.

Note: 2500+ hours of gameplay.

And i will not vote. Cause you don't let me anything to vote.

Hey OP, maybe if you say that it's a grind often enough and loudly enough, perhaps it will become true:)

I don't find ED to be a grind; every activity I've taken part in has been hugely rewarding to me on a number of different levels, and at any time if said activity lost its interest for me I could easily switch professions at a moment's notice.

Good luck farming those reps, though. Personally, I wouldn't have them.

No I don't like grind.

However I don't like things handed to me on a plate either.

Progression is great, but the progression should be based on challenges so that the reward is satisfying. I find the reward from a grind unsatisfying.

When it's random loot drop (like when I play Diablo) it's less-so satisfying and more like relief. But when you have onionhead in the hold it's a brilliant light show.

I actually don't play Engineers or Missions.... I just enjoy doing a bit of trading and mining. I really do not have a "goal" with the game... other than be able to afford and outfit ships for different purposes. :)

Oh goody another valuable and constructive thread from the OP, must be another day in a week.

Hey! Here's something for your next one Kenney:

"Is punching Kittens wrong? Results reflect if Elite Dangerous is dead."

Or how about:

"Is sticking reproductive organs in live plug sockets a bad idea? Results reflect if 2.1 is a disaster and Frontier need to replace all features".

That's the kind of random meaningless dribble we're going for with these threads, rights?

That's the point. Kenney staying true to form even added more negative qualities to the context of grinding to re-enforce the glaringly obvious and infantile point.

I'm starting to think their avatar isn't satire.

Calling someone's opinion "random meaningless dribble" and "the glaringly obvious and infantile point". Wow must have touched a nerve. This is bordering on insulting and probably reportable. If you don't want to agree with the discussion that is completely fine. But attacking the person is breaking the rules.

What was called meaningless dribble and infantile point is the presentation of the poll and the context of the question to produce a particular outcome. The point of the thread is what's meaningless dribble and infantile.

But if you honestly feel it's a personal attack on you, please do report it. Don't just threaten it to try shut down a post.

I've seen some people actually claim that a lot of the things in this game are not considered a "grind".

Some people have said they know it is a grind and they LIKE the grind.

I want to see the cross section of the fans here of this game and see what % of you (corrected for these extremists perspective) actually DO enjoy grinding in games.

Example: Everquest - you could spend 30 - 40 hours of gameplay to get 1 bubble of XP. Thousands of people did it. They whined about it, they still played because there wasn't anything else. It was tedious as hell but there was so much variation in the game at least you could do things like crafting and other things to pass the time. But some people enjoyed it.

Do you enjoy the grind?

My definition of grinding is this: Doing repeated activities for very long periods of time without any different results - only for minimal gain.

I am a Human not a robot.

So voted no.

And I like Ed becuase there is a tollerable grind over there...

I take it by your recent activity that you like forum grinding ?

My answer is a "depends".

I don't like the combat grind with the merciless-yet-repetitive new AI 'features', especially when it's combined with pre-existing nonsensical 'pirate' griefer behavior.

I don't enjoy trying to find materials, especially when they're supposed to be "common" but really are so uncommon that it takes days just to find a single item.

I enjoy deep space exploration.

I enjoy trading.

I am somewhat enjoying missions - getting to visit many stations and systems I otherwise would never think to stop at.

I haven't managed a successful mining run yet (I'm waiting until I can access the Clipper).

So when it comes to answering whether I enjoy a "grind" as you describe it, it depends.

What you are saying quasi directly is "your post is rubbish" that is what you are saying. Instead of saying "I disagree with your opinion and this is why".

That is the difference. They don't tolerate that sort of behavior here (trust me .. I know) and it will get you banned.

2.1 engineer is a flop, random rng is garbage, meanwhile my eve sub is pulling me back.

Wow looks like you spent a lot of time in ED too.

Trust me FD is not concerned. They got their money and they'll be happy selling bobbleheads to their left over fans for the next 10 years.
