Proposal Discussion Do More Public Updates for Contributions, learn from Star Citizen

i am happy with the output we're getting from frontier.

i don't like people wanting us to go all american

that is all

Not everything American, but a significant participation of U.S. would be very sympathetic I think. In fact, you definitively arrested to smoke American cigarettes ?

:p

Star Citizen has crossed the limit for me and their updates have become an annoyance rather than a point of interest. I rarely pay them any attention and I don't like the cash hungry style they have (selling in-game goods for real money even after they have themselves admitted that they have more money than they can spend).

I much prefer the more European approach of Frontier: publish an update when you actually have something to share. Even better: more than one something.

I totally agree quality over quantity

Indeed.

It is slightly worrying however that they don't yet appear to have much actual gameplay to share. I'm hoping that's because they want to do a big reveal of loads of meaty game details in one big information overload fanfare, and not that it's because the game is much further behind in development than we'd like.

After all, it's only about 6 months until Alpha is due to start; not long at all in game development terms. I'd expect all the core gameplay to exist already and content to be being added at this stage along with final tweaks to artwork and stuff.

Ship designs, drabbles and whatnot are all lovely but aren't the meat of what I want to see :) They aren't the "game". I couldn't care if the ships looked like the original Elite at this stage, if I could find out more about how basic mechanics were going to work and see some more actual gameplay. The lack of forthcoming detail on much-wanted details like how Exploring works, PvP-vs-PvE, etc does seem to indicate there's a lot of design left to do even at this late stage.

I suppose a lot of the late stage work is in adding the polish and optimising the code. So there might be some reluctance to show too much game footage without all the bells and whistles.

Since when is having a proper site about a game with up-to-date information American? It's called professionalism.

To have a well-backed indie game doesn't necessarily result in quantity, but more resources to improve it.

I think they listened to our feedback cause the refurbished Elite site is much better than before. They should add a section with all past-news and display the newsletters in a normal page.
