Do Not Install nVidia Driver 347.09 if You're Using Oculus Rift

Being dumb I thought Oculus Rift was only available for developers at the moment? Are the people who are using them for ED beta testers for the VR company or have you purchased developer kits? PS are they any good? Cheers

I bought a DK2 specifically to play ED.
Its good and bad. Good (amazing in fact) because you are in a spaceship and you are in space. It's not like someone has strapped a large tv to your head. It's like someone has put you in a spaceship and put you in space.

Bad because the text can be pretty hard to read and you have to scale back the graphics.

i play on both a tv and the rift. The rift is more of treat for me.

Did nvidia re-release the 347.09, a few days ago it was not showing up as i believe it was taken back to beta, now its listed as a upgrade again for me. Anyone try it out yet?

Yeah, I have some problems. In the rift I see two images rather than one single image.
was working fine before I upgraded

Sounds pretty cool I will def get one at release maybe even a Dev kit if the release date gets put back, I heard autumn this year from memory. So cool, cheers! Don't forget your thermos, toothbrush and triple thickness condom when flying in ED space!

I can not now play ED without my dk2

Anyone can buy it..... but you have to accept terms that you are not expecting a retail quality product etc. yes the resolution is a little low, yes the SDE is less than ideal (though its less of a problem in elite than other games imo), but imo text is all readable and since getting mine back in july i have lost all interest in elite on a monitor...... At a guess over 150hrs all in VR

Is anyone using 347.09 with a GTX980 and DK2 yet? I've had a look at the release notes and it's a little unclear.

Under 'Updated 3D vision profiles' it states - Elite: Dangerous - Not recommended

but under '3D Compatibility Mode Support' - Elite: Dangerous - rated as Excellent

obviously these are different but I'm not sure how or if this has any relevance for the DK2.

Getting a new machine this week with 980 SLI (just future proofing for a few weeks ;-) ), and want to know which driver to ask them to put on for when it's delivered.

I believe those have no relevance at all for the DK2. I would advise keeping away from 347.09 still and sticking with the 344.75. I'm not going anywhere near a new NVidia driver until it gets a new number, and a note saying it fixes the DK2 problems. The 347.09 drivers will actually run ED in Direct Mode on the Rift. BUT it runs horribly. And in Extended mode it refuses to work properly at all.

You should be warned that a lot of people seem to have problems in ED with the 980 in SLI, so be prepared to disable it for a while until that gets sorted out properly. Quite a few threads on here about it. Even a single 980 should run it all very nicely though, especially with the 344.75 drivers. Just check a few threads on here about how to set it up.

Thanks, just what I need to know. Is turning off SLI just a software switch in the Nvidia control panel or will I need to unplug something inside the PC?

Really not sure since I only have the one card myself, but I imagine there's something in the NVidia Control Panel to deal with it. No doubt some kind person with an SLI setup will be along any moment to tell us....

SLI setup here....you can disable SLI in NCP, but lack of performance will have you going back to 375.44 drivers. Esp with DK2. SLI seems to be the culprit with the double vision issue.

Got the new machine today, and yes the SLI is just a software toggle thing in ncp. However E.D seems to work fine for me in SLI mode. Everything on ultra no slowdowns. Only had chance to play for 40 minutes so far, so along way from fully tested. Only played in solo as well but areas that caused massive frame drops before like in stations, in hanger, Galaxy map are all super smooth. I'll have to try an asteroid field, conflict zone and super sampling tomorrow and see how it goes.

Nice. Two 980's must be really smooth. Do you get any hint of judder at all with those two ?

:) only played for a couple of hours so far as I've allowed work to get in the way. Probably too early to say, but it's been a amazing so far. Had a quick try with 2560 x 1440 today for 10 minutes and in station (a standard one) it has no effect on the FPS set to Ultra standard. I haven't tried playing with any settings yet like shadows etc but can't see the point atm. There may well be frame rate drops in the extreme environments others have mentioned but I haven't tried those yet. I should also mention I haven't displayed my FPS on screen, but I'll only do this if I feel I need to do some tweaking which at the moment I dont.

I use the 347 drivers and ED works perfectly well with my Oculus as far as I can tell.

What specifically should I look for? What are the symptoms?

It appears that 347.25 has now been released. Do we know if the issue is fixed now in this new driver?
