I am using Logitech G230 Headset (normally just use my surround sound speaker setup, But at night I an banned to the headset by the Boss (Wife)) And I gota say, DAMN! Major difference

Well I used to have a £5000 hifi setup,but downgraded? due to neighbors complaints to a headphone setup.
Sennheiser Hd650's,Darkvoice 3322 valve amp,Devilsound dac with decent cables-1/5 of the cost and sounds way better

Luckily, direct neighbour is old and deaf, and I live in an older building with thick walls. Very. Lucky.

Good headphones are certainly viable, just couldn't give up my surround - as I said, I have it tuned to perfection, and it's some very nice gear...

Just don't watch me whilst playing - I use a girls head band to hold the TrackIR, so looks kinda silly.

I hate to think how I look, EDtracker matchbox on head and talking into my lapel mic to VoiceAttack....

'Not sane' is probably a generous view...

Having said that, I'll admit, a very good set of headphones will be the cheapest way to get properly good sound...

Only if you must buy new, personally i wouldn't want to buy a secondhand set of sweaty headphones, but "pre owned" amps and speakers? Oh yes.

Seriously though, if you're playing any game through anything other than surround sound headphones you're missing out. A lot. If you're not playing Elite through SS headphones you are eally missing out. The sound design is amazing and it's all the better when it fully encapsulates you and you can hear things in 3D space.
Footfalls tell you where enemies are in FPS games without you having to see them, you can hear flies buzzing around your head in the jungle and bullets snap past your ear in a pitched firefight. Heck, even in Minecraft I can hear where the mobs are including creepers sneaking up on me and I know what direction to turn and how far away they are.
I watch TV documentaries on Youtube through my computer speakers when I go to bed and other than that I play EVERYTHING through my 7.1 surround sound headphones. The experience just feels shallow without them.

I use a shiit stack (dac+ amp) and a pair of audiotechnica m50's , the sound in this game is second to none .

The first time I took my asp out of the dock I was worried that I made a bad purchase , then I accelerated and had a eargasm. The thing sounds like 2 panthers having sexy time on a Harley.

I use the Kingston Hyperx Cloud headset with my onboard sound and mobo equalizer. The sound of going into or out of supercruise shakes the very fibers of my DNA.

Hmm..trying that Razer Synapse surround. Not sure if its better or worse then the Creative surround. (Using Blackshark headphones)
