Horizons Docking computer in 2.1

I'm just throwing this out there, i have already submitted a bug report but....

Is it just me or has the software for the 2.1 Docking computer been replaced in 2.1 with an old beta version. It is wholly unreliable and I have honestly lost count how many times the DC has flown my ship into the outside of the station, not even close to the entry/exit aperture???

Coming to landing pads.... the DC more often that not wildly overshoots the pad and then seems to get 'stuck' requiring manual input to kickstart the landing cycle again.

Any thoughts folks?...

Sorry, I cannot confirm that occurring. It hasn't happen to me, at least as of yet. But I would like to suggest that the docking computer not take up a slot, or at least they need to add a slot for it.

I had the same problem. Parked the Asp and bought a T-7 for Ceos runs to build credits waiting for another Jaques CG. Upgraded Frame Shift , and because it is cheap, tuned the engines. It seems to me that the extra speed throws it off. A few pips from the engines has helped.

I have only had it hang once just to the left of the pad, but it fixed itself after a second or two and it docked.

Yes I've noticed the occasional mishap with the DC. Boosting into the side of the station is the main issue for me. Unless you line it up some 4+km from the slot, its likely to make some bad      decisions for you... definitely not one to leave unattended while you head for the loo... you may not come back to a docked ship but the Rebuy screen instead.

Git Gud at dockingcomputer usage! :D

Just kidding ;) the dockingcomputer is messed up in my opinion. He can't handle undersized thrusters and he slams the ships into the pad. Also he doesn't orientate the ship horizontal and more vertical.
Sometimes he get "disturbed" from whatever and all maneuvers following are just stupid.

I can't recommand it to anyone. You're better/faster at landing the oldschool way.

My thoughts exactly. The whole point of my using the DC was so I could AFK for a few mins for nature rambles, putting the kettle on and what not. Now, I dare not leave the DC alone, its like babysitting lol. My current 13m rebuy is a little steep for what amounts to a software hiccup.

Players are actually using docking computer? I thought is just for fun, never used as it's very easy to dock manually. And if you want a few AFK minutes why not wait 2 more minutes to manually dock and after that you go AFK? In this way you could avoid those surprises when come back and find your ship still not docked or worse, destroyed :)

I hereby condemn you to 3 days of 12 hour shifts grinding my imperial rep for me in HIP 10716/Wu Guinagi. I PROMISE after the 10,000th manual docking you'll look at the docking computer a bit differently.

And strangely, I've only had one random incident of the docking computer trying to fly me through a wall. I *DO*, however, get a lot of attempts for it to infinitely wait in queue.

I use the docking computer on every ship I own from my Eagle to my Conda and I have never had a issue in 2.1 with the docking computer.

It is a Docking Computer, it isn't a fully fledged auto pilot! I've never crashed using the Docking Computer. I always stop at aprox 6.5kms from the space station, then request docking permission then when accepted, the docking computer does the rest...perfectly every time.

If I am going too fast the docking computer will not work efficiently or at all, as the speed overrides it. As stated its not an auto pilot its only an electronic docking mechanism. Slow down and stop, request docking permission and it will work every time or your money back.

I do maybe 40 to 50 docks per session of play as a trader...so yes I use the DC...its a Godsend or I'd go mental doing all that lining up and slowing thrusters back, up, down, left, right, left, right, down, left, right, back, forwards a bit, down, up, left a little more, right, down slower, up a bit, left a bit, right a bit, forward a bit more, forward a little bit more, down just a tad, down just a tad more, down just a tad more, up a tad...too much....back down a tad...too fast....up a little bit more, down slow, down slow line up, line up, left, right, left, right....nearly...nearly....okaaaaay....got it...waheeey! 30 to 40 times a session, yeah right!

Another waste of space for... Docking is half the fun. Nailing a good landing is very satisfying and you don't get snide comments from the controllers... ;)

Oh...so that's why I get snide remarks! I had this cheeky Scottish haggis ATC telling me that "If you could fly better you might be able to handle that ship" I was a bit upset at that and thought the Devs were cheeky themselves for having that put into the game. Now I see why....lol...funnnnny, very funnnnnnnnnnny.

I've purposely not bought a docking computer for all these reasons. If I had one on my ship and funds were low insurance wise - would you really trust a docking computer to land you safely? Nope - old school me - fly the ship in everytime. When you land then, you know you're on point.

V2k.

yeah because the Docking computer is weird i tend to do it 50/50... meaning, i activate DC to put me in the right patch for the docking bay, then fly manualy inside then turn it on again to land on pad without any effort!

but till... im not on Horizons (still playing the original ED) so no Engine upgrades for me!

The DC indeed loves to fly itself right out of its performance envelope, especially when using Afterburner on High-Grade Thruster-Modded Ships beyond its "Point of no safe return".

Apart from slamming some Ships violently onto the Pad, triggering numerous Speeding Warnings, exceeding 100m/sec with Gear down on some Ships and loving to dock with a 3-5deg error Bank angle - or sliding right off the Pad and getting entangled to avoid some 300m distant other Ship (that's actually fully deconflicted by procedural flow and a complete non-factor)... it has issues.

But frankly, when did the DC not have issues ?! Can't recall any single time at which the DC was actually properly and reliably working under all conditions ;)

Because I am old and lazy lol ;)

I have had the DC "dock" me at the wrong end of a Coriolis Station. Was not paying attention (making notes) and all of a sudden lots of racket as the DC had me bouncing around between walls. Managed to fly out before dying. Have freezing problems once in a while when an AI is close to hand. It stops, the DC stops and only a gentle nudge of the engine gets thing moving again. As a trader doing landings every 6-8 minutes the DC is a tedium saver. I do keep my eye pretty closely on it though.

Well, for me manual docking is a pleasure in this game and now I'm going cocky and trying to dock with silent running and never crashed yet but I smell a failure soon as I tend to get overconfident about it and I hope I will not have my Python full of smuggling slaves [woah] and I also have FSD range upgrade. Hmm I imagine the rage a bit [uhh]

Just to confirm that the 2.1 docking computer tends to freeze when the ship is forward of the pad. Usually, a quick tap on the reverse keep plus 'X' sorts it out.
I've not experienced the slamming into the station problem, even with the 500 m/s boost out the Clipper, Cobra.
I find the DC really useful for outposts, it's not easy to find the pad every time. I also find it great for sorting out the landing pad after a rapid entry ( > 200 m/s).

The real problems I see is that it will spend ages just waiting in a queue, then slam you onto the docking pad. At one outpost I had the "terrain alert" sound off. It used to be possible to land without shields using the DC.

Version 1.4 was ok though
