Does anyone with access to a cutter use a Type 9?

Maybe they have only flown the old T9 back before it got the extra cargo space and much better performance.

The T9 got substantially better cargo capacity after the buffs vs before it had them, true. But what better performance do you refer to? Far as I can tell, the flying brick still handles and flies it always has.

I bought, tried & sold again in frustration loads of T-9s before the buff. I wanted to like it but the Conda was just better even though it held less cargo.

Post buff at some point it just clicked & I look for reasons to fly one now. My only Thargoid encounter so far was in a T-9, hauling to repair a burning station.

There's still no T-10 in my fleet though, it sorely needs a similar buff imo.

That's quite a leap in logic.

In relation to also owning a Cutter. I should have maybe noted that. But generally, it's still moronic when the game sends pirates after you that could wreck even a fully engineered Type-9 very quickly. It's a sad sad ship.

I have used both for mining and trading, but I still have my Cutter. I sold my T-9 a LONG time ago.

There is just no reason to own one in my opinion.

I'd call it a vestige of fun, believable game play. I like that my massive hull cargo cow has a very small window of success when deciding to go up against ships made to blow up ships made to haul cargo, and requires the awareness of when to run for the hills.

The regular game doesn't, those will be mission specific pirates (ie your choice). In a T-9 I usually get a Cobra MkIV or Asp Scout if I'm just hauling cargo & not running a mission.

I have a Cutter which use for transporting cargo. 720 tons.

I have a T9 called Biowaste Direct for transporting the same amount of Biowaste. Nothing else, just Biowaste. You can’t transport Biowaste in a Cutter. You can never get the smell out of the leather.

(I just like having one of every ship, each with its own task.)

The only times in the last couple of years that an NPC has managed to interdict me while flying a T9 has been when too close to a sun and then the NPC has not appeared. If you cannot beat an NPC interdiction in a engineered T9 you need to learn:)

T9 is a poor man's Cutter. With its shields, I don't need to beat interdiction. However, I have alt accounts to help with trade because when placed at the endpoints of a trade loop, I have no need to slow down when approaching the station. This nearly eliminates the chance of interdiction

The T9 is more a really big cool truck for me, while the cutter is a more stylish vehicle for passengers and also some baggage... if I play, I play always a little role-play, so I use both.

It has NOTHING to do with that. It still has everything to do with the stats design of the ship being absolutely atrocious for the job it needs to carry out. A Type-9 should not have a paper hull and it sure as hell shouldn't suffer mass lock from a Python.

If you enjoy flying the Type-9, then all the best to you.

I am flying one of my T9 miners ATM, I made a lot of credit and ranked up flying freight into stations under repair with a T9, as a matter of fact the same one that I have now converted to a laser miner, I also use a Cutter if I need a heavy armed freighter.

As for a paper hull, I have never seriously damaged a T9 in encounters with stations or planets.

Both ships have their advantages and disadvantages, both have their uses, I fly both.

I love my T-9, but it's just a freighter. (Her name's Freja. Get it?)

I may be missing something, but am I the only one who doesn't lose the interdiction minigame when I'm in my T-9? I mean, like EVER? Am I just blessed with superior interdiction skills or something? They only occasionally try, but I don't have problems. It's not like it's engineered: straight-factory-floor model T-9, bumper shields, ADC, SCA, 752T capacity for shuttling to my FC or for PP. I'll drop it to 736T if I swap in a Guardian FSD because I want a bit of extra distance.

But yeah. Interdictions. Did I just never learn to suck or something?

Does engineering make a T9 more maneuverable during interdiction?

No idea actually, It could just have been my flying skills were improving, when I got my first T9 I was on the early part of the learning curve, just starting to engineer, only enough for a couple of re-buy's etc.

That was back in the days when you had to work to earn credits - freighting biowaste and tea etc.

That reminds me, I should get back on that learning curve and finish them engineers and learn how to fight:)

so I was wondering did anyone prefer the Lakon offering over the Gutamaya offering?

I used to use T-9 despite having Cutter. It was a nice fat cow, made me some credits and pushed the final straight to trade elite. Since then I didn't have a reason to use it so sold. Kept the Cutter tho, not because it's superior in any field, only because she was rep gated, costs much and is somewhat a status show off. And it looks far better.
