Does this game have epic fights?

I don't own it by now, but I am thinking about it. But first I want to iron out a few things, which bug me, before I spend €49.99 and then be disappointed afterwards.
There is no demo, right? Nor I a demo planned, or is it? Because that would definitely be extremely helpful.

Anyway, I played the original game back in the days on my C64. Mosty just dogfights. But I didn't get very deep into it. What I really liked on my C64 was Space Rogue. Awesome game. Nevertheless, what really impressed me, was X-Wing and Tie-Fighter. Those were awesome, because you had thos really cool epic fights with huge capital ships and lots of small fighters in-between. This is something, I expect from a game with space flight.

Is there something like that? Or is it more like small skirmishes i.e. you vs. 3 pirates etc...

If not, is anything like that planned?

Ehhhhhh, it kind of has epic fights in high conflict areas. Otherwise, it's mainly you vs a small amount of pirates if that.

Had a total blast tonight. Sporadically gathered strike team and laid siege to a station. We killed every security vessel that station was able to deploy. And it was a lot. We were hammered from all sides non stop but still managed to prevail. I can't even describe how awesome it was :)

I'd describe it predominantly as 1 v 1.

Yes there are conflict zones in contested areas which are essentially big fights.

Here ya go, check 11 mins onwards (or just watch the whole lot):

Hell yes. A civil war was brewing in the Federal Navy's own backyard of Eta Cassiopiae, corporates versus liberals, all of them flying Navy ships. Ace pilots, dangerous, deadly, even elite, were flying everything from fast vipers and cobras to the massive, heavily armed Fed Dropships, Pythons and Anacondas. Literal dozens of attack craft going at it with all guns blazing, and into the maelstrom I dived, my own heavily armed and shielded vessel, the Ill-Gotten Gains, adding its considerable firepower to the fray. as a Federation Officer, I stood with those defending the status quo against the upstarts, doing battle with ship after ship until my multicannons ran dry and my shield cells were depleted.

That was a pretty damned epic couple of hours of space battles, I can tell you.

95% of the gameplay is waiting. Just keep that in mind. Waiting for scanning, waiting for supercruise, waiting for hyperjump, waiting for undocking etc. Fights are usually 1v1, sometimes a 3-4 guy group fights. Conflict zones tend to have the biggest fights going on.

To summarize: The most epic fights are...
1) Troll vs Troll (here on the forums, as mentioned above)
2) Large NPC ship ramming smaller human ship (not sure how epic that is...)
3) Any sized human ship ramming vastly larger station (also not very epic)

Beyond this, you can get some challenging fights if you take the early, weak ships against much stronger NPC ships. But the moment you get yourself a good ship (python,anaconda)... the challenge is over. And right now... pvp is virtually nonexistent.

So... for the time being... epic fighting requires an epic imagination.

There is no epic fights as most of the players, if you've been reading the forums here, will log out the second the see another player. Also, when the instances are locked to 32 players maximum, that's not epic.

You mean you watched then got killed?

You can have epic fights with experienced players or NPCs, but those are mostly 1 on 1. I did play the original Elite, X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, X3: Terrain Conflict, but so far Elite: Dangerous has the best dogfights in my opinion. I really like the flight model, and that you have full control over your ship. They are customisable with weapons, modules and skins. And if you want to play as a bounty hunter, you can always find good fights at the Nav Beacons, at Resource Extractation Sites, Combat Zones, Unindentified Signal Sources, or if you interdict someone in Supercruise mode.

Take the negative nancy replies with a grain of salt, there is a contingent of people that hang around these forums that apparently have nothing better to do than bash a game that they don't like. There definitely are big fights, the flight model is the best of any space sim Ive ever played, and it is quite a good game if you like space sims (if you're looking for Call of Duty: Space Ops though, this isnt it and you should pass on it), with quite a lot of continual development on the way.

There are a lot of reviews out there that will give you a better idea of what it is and what it isn't than you'll get here on the forums currently.

I've been looking for one of these capital ship events, anyone know where the current ones are? I don't have a lot of time to play ED unfortunately so I tend to lose track of what's what. Thanks in advance :)
