Does your joy stick slide around on your desk? ... (read this)

Does no one just rest them on their legs anymore?

Not anyone with a real piece of kit, no. Wico's not exactly #1 stick brand anymore, plus it's about 45 buttons short of just my flight stick; let alone the throttle and pedals. Laps are for console controllers now, not sticks.

Unless that kit is absolutely massive I can't see why it won't rest on a thigh. Regardless of joystick type I've never done it, and infact sounds pretty god damn uncomfortable. My thrustmaster t flight hotas sits perfectly on my legs while still giving access to keyboard so I can easily alt+tab, sit back in my chair, voice attack for other commands and I'm not turning my eyes square trying to see my 27" screen.

Or just get one of these - affordable and sturdy:

At $595 (€535, GBP380), that's far from what I'd call 'affordable'. 'Worth the money', quite possibly so, though. Especially if I can mount the stick from the X52 on the right arm, instead of center mounted like they offer..
Would I like one? Hell yes. But lack of a third monitor, lack of available funds, and lack of room give me too many priority reasons not to get it.
I like the idea someone else had of using pole-mount VESA brackets to clip onto the chair's armrests, but given I have an Ikea Verksam chair:

I strongly doubt they'll fit in a usable position.

Just get a roll of this stuff. Anti slip dashboard matting. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Multi-Pur...e1f310d&pid=100011&rk=1&rkt=1&sd=191575192686

Works like a charm. Just cut a reasonable size piece off to place under your stick and it will never slide around again. Doesn't require any permanent fixings, sticky pads, blobs of tack or slobbering globs of spittle. It's just a thin piece of dry rubber matting. When finished just pick it up and roll it back up.

Also works great under my G27 wheel, when clamped down on top of this stuff it's utterly immovable.

I have a warthog, I employ a team of Olympic weightlifters to move it to one side when I log off for the night :D

Indeed. The Warthog does not move. In fact, I have far more trouble during particularly violent space maneuvers with my entire desk shifting than I do with the Warthog moving upon said desk.

I believe that is why the Warthog has such large engines, they counteract the stick's excessive weight

I just have one monitor. A big screen TV that I either sit "right up against"' or I play with the DK2. Joking aside, the Volair seat is great. Definitely one of the "cheaper" flight sim seats, but well-constructed and sturdy. Sitting in the seat with a Warthog stick and throttle, Saitek pedals and playing with either TrackIR or DK2 is really cool. Takes the game to a whole different level. And yes - "affordable" is in the eye of the beholder (as is "willingness to pay" for that sort of a toy).

I'm part of the Licking suction cups group here, I can pull up my whole desk with monitor and all our usual mess just with both X52 devices. I have to use a knife to unstuck each suction cup one by one to remove them. That's really strong.

I just used adhesive backed Velcro, been holding the joy in place for 6 months and isn't going anywhere unless I want it to.
Just wipe the desk and controller surface with alcohol to remove any oils before you stick it on.

Suction cups are limited by atmospheric pressure of course, no matter how good the seal. They are really pressure cups. So what I've done is install a huge turbine to blast air into my room to raise the air pressure. Works extremely well, but I have had to bolt the table down to stop it blowing away. A simpler alternative would be to play at the bottom of a very deep mine shaft.
