Doing what I set out to do

Not sure if anyone noticed my thread about reasons to join DWE but one of my stated goals was to revisit the far rim. Specifically though I wanted to jump to systems out of any 'normal' jump range, even for a completely stripped down Anaconda.

Well - I'm now exploring a section of (just) 4 systems that you can only reach by means of a 50LY jump but are all reachable from each other via normal length ones. The best of it is that I've found enough j-juice mats to fully replenish my supplies and there's another small group of systems even further out that I can reach via a 47LY jump.

I know it's daft but I feel like I'm exploring off the edge of the Galaxy where I am at the moment.... well that and not seeing all the tagged systems from everyone else previously skimming the rim. :p

Going to complete these and then move further Eastwards in the hope of finding another few examples :)

Out of curiosity Traveller, are you still up in the vicinity of Beagle trying to push out? Close to the zero meridian? And what is your best distance from Sol so far?

I got a personal best of 65,427 lys from Sol during Beagle week. Others have gone farther out and I'm sure I might have been able to as well, but I was in a 33.3 ly Asp and was wishing for more range, so I'll return one day in a longer distance Anaconda to break my record.

You know, you may get stuck and have to blow yourself up, but hell, you are pushing the limits. Make sure and record systems/routes.

You know, I've not checked the distance from Sol as I kind of figured I'd be getting closer so didn't bother. I'll check when I sign on next... I'm at about the 1000 line east of the Meridian and I *think* about the 65K line out

.... and recording.... yeah... I never seem to get 'round to doing that. I just kind of wander vaguely in an area seeing what's there. Bit of an amateur really.

Not saying I like it here, but:

and the 1st of the 3 metallic meteorites produced Polonium :)

Dropped off the edge again - just after seeing my first potato world I find a couple of stars 40LY apart and a spur of a dozen or so systems 50LY beyond them. Decided to land on a HMC world just 'cos in the first system and found: vanadium, cadmium, niobium and polonium.... now back up to 22 double range jumps and looking at a host of systems no one has been able to reach before.

This is turning out to be great fun :D

I think I went past Frawd last night. Got a little frustrated in that I found what appeared to be a remote system linked to others, only to find when I got to the far side that there was a bridge for a high range 'conda to make it across and a certain thick long haired individual had got there first.

So I decided to buckyball a few thousand LY to go somewhere completely away from BP as that bottleneck is proving to be highly explored. That didn't work out too well.... Earth-likes, innumerable water worlds and even the odd Ammonia world popped up (dammit). That and an even smaller potato planet (just over 200km across) with a 8km deep crater that I got 2/3rds of the way up in the SRV before bouncing down and SURVIVING! Went from 98% to 70% in one hit and then 32% in the next. Frantically repaired the SRV as it sailed out over the crater and landed with 79% from 100.... This meant I would've been down to 11% if I'd left it!

Screenshots to follow :)

From inside it was an imposing sight:

Didn't realise just how steep it was until I glanced at the terrain radar... I fell off a couple of seconds after getting this image:
