Don't Forget the Outposts

When you move to a large pad ship, it's easy to go from station to station and ignore outposts. There are a lot of good things happening at outposts you can easily miss if you avoid them. An example would be that I was simply upgrading my carrier, and the system where I was upgrading asked for some low level pirate assassination missions in another system that only had outposts. So I took a couple and decided to run them in my FdL. While in that system, I wanted to see what they had going on, so I stopped in. All factions except that bottom dwelling bad guy faction had stackable bulk pirate kill missions. I've run these for 3 days. While doing so I checked the outpost in the system where the pirates were based. They had the same in the system I was getting the stacked missions, so I just swung back and forth between systems. When I had all my missions from one system, I'd go to turn them in, then I'd grab more and before heading back, I'd complete the pirate missions in that system.

Basically I would have missed this opportunity if I just ignored the outposts and went along my way to hunt for better credit farming. Just saying, don't forget these outposts and planetary sites exist.

I can't believe people do forget about outposts... if you limit yourself to large-only orbital docks, you lose 66% of all landable facilities, that's a huge amount, and can make the difference between a useful system and a not-useful system.

My exact reasoning for not flying anything bigger than Python... I have enough money, rank and eng mats to fully kit out Corvette but this is not fun...

Not to mention the fantastic views. Same goes for L-pad stations, say, 500k ls away. Hardly anyone ever wants to fly to such remote locations. Some of these can make for interesting edge cases.

A big one, though i appreciate this is not everyone's bag, it's also that if you fly large, most missions will be "ship too large", while some systems will simply be off limits. If you have an interest for BGS purposes, that's a dealbreakrr to fly large

Only time i fly large is for war CZs (unless there's no large dock), purpose driven trading between two large docks, and passenger missions, as these are never to outposts.

I agree. I fly medium ships 90% of the time: Python for missions and trading and limited combat, and mostly FDL for pure combat.

I do have an Anaconda, Corvette and Clipper too, but I only board my Clipper when I want to do some bulk trading for a while.
The Anaconda I once in a while use like a multi purpose oversized Python for a bit of combat, a bit of missions etc.
The Corvette I never liked. I hate these ridiculous crates at the back with huge weapons in them. It is such a ridiculous pointless design. My corvette also holds my fighters, but I never use them because I do not like the npc crew mechanic. These npc crew pilots are leeches.

"What is that? A type of installation?"
"It's a type of station, an outpost."
"A what?"
"An outpost. A station. We can dock there, commander."
(checks panel): "No, we can't."
"We can't, because you are flying a cutter. But you can with a smaller ship."
"Like a clipper?"
"No ... but almost anything smaller."
"Please jump into the fighter and show me."
"A fighter can't dock there ... but anything between fighter and clipper size."
"Ah. What was that you were saying?"
"Dock. Docking, like we do every night on the fleetcarrier."
"Why did you bring it up?"
"The Fleetcarrier?"
"No ... that ... thingy ... dropping... doping ... anyways. What is that there? A type of installation?"
"Don't Forget Outposts, commander!"
"I'm not forgetting anything ... it's just hard to remember ... if you have clocked that many hours as me one day, you'll see."

Nailing an Outpost landing is also more fun than docking at large Stations.
Emphasis on "nailing". I hit them pretty hard.

You need to adapt the "high turnover rate" system I use, they get fired a lot. Then one day you get a looker and you know she's going to be high maintenance but you just have to hold on to her because the next one will look like Rod Stewart and Steve Buscemi had a love child.

When I have a choice, I select outposts over stations. Quicker takeoffs and landings, and I prefer small ships.
