Agreed. I wouldn't want anyone or FDev to think that my vocal dissent with recent choices is a sign that I'm going to give up on the game. I'm not a 5 year old who will just toss all my toys when things don't go my way. I will go on with the game because so much of it was and remains to be very appealing to me.
However, I am seeing a pattern in development that I believe does not coincide with core values of Elite. Rather, I see a pattern of development that is trying to cater to a larger audience that is not familiar with Elite or similar games of its nature. I'm seeing marginally successful attempts at attracting a more generalized crowd of gamers. However, I see every day how the attempts are not working. Every day there is another thread from someone who doesn't really "get" space games like Elite who then goes on a rant telling us how bad the game is and how they are upset they spent any money on such any "empty" game.
Focus on your core audience, heck, squeeze us for more money, if you have to. Just please stop trying to turn this into something everyone wants to play because that is impossible.
Depends what you mean with support more specific. Moral Support? Sure why not, I can get my Pom Poms out!
Money Support? As I'm not sure I'm part of the target audience anymore I say no on that currently. Really no clue how they want the game to be in future updates and not too optimistc for now.
The science and realism was completely directed at the galaxy and the bodies that fill it. During those same stream he even confessed that the flight model was "WWII Fighter". Don't conflate what he said, with what you want to blame the Dev's for. The context of his talks belie your insinuation.
You can still travel as far in one jump with that/those ships as you could before. Nothing has been taken away from you. You will still get around your local environs as fast as you hoped. With the ship/module transport feature coming, you will just be able to enjoy content farther away, with greater ease. Drama doesn't trump reality.
I will admit, I probably was spitting fire after hearing the Sandro interview with Lave Radio yesterday.
However, my anger is a measure of my passion for the game.
I just need to better manage my own anger problems....stupid shrink, getting into my words
I understand the sentiment, but I don't want to support the devs at the moment, I honestly think they are making a huge (star wars galaxies type of huge) mistake with Instant ship and module transfers.
I think people are quite supportive towards FD. Support doesn't mean there's no criticism. Quite opposite. It would be stupid for people so deeply invested in game and company be silent when they feel something is wrong (even if we disagree).
Blind, unquestioning support without criticism? There is a game with that kinda fan base. Glad it's not Elite.
This is why I quit the game so many months back and this is why I still haven't returned to the game. Maybe when they stop fiddling with things, maybe when they stop screwing with the players just as they start to get settled in, maybe then they'll have earned my support again. Until then, I will remain glad I didn't buy the lifetime pack after all. I've *NEVER* felt that way about a game before and to feel that about Elite is particularly disappointing. I wish I could play Elite because I care about the game, I wouldn't keep checking and keep feeling disappointed if I didn't. But not until I feel like any personal progress that is made won't get wiped out by harmful changes. How can I trust investing and pouring my free hours and weeks in the game if they keep changing the rules?
I found Sandro's reasoning's insufficient and his stance closed off. What happened there?
I found Sandro's reasoning's insufficient and his stance closed off.
For example, he said ship transfer would be instant or take a long time. So in the spirit of making the most happy and "taking down barriers to fun" they are going with instant. No mention of compromise between the two extremes. That got my blood simmering.
Then he goes on like they aren't going to change it and uses some examples many of us believe would be detrimental to the experience of the game. The Jaques example, to be specific. My blood started to boil.
Later, I see MB talking about how instant txfr was chosen because of possible points of failure and other complications with delay (though he was unspecific, as usual). At this point my blood probably would have sublimated if exposed to air. I should have bit into a baby asprin and had some 'recreational' help at this point but I was so red zone. Like an amped up attack dog I started biting at everything (though, I'm pretty sure I never attacked anyone personally but my attitude was something I'm not proud of).
I bored my wife with the intricate details, had a sleep and am now looking at this with fresh eyes. I'm still not happy about it, but I'm content to wait and see while offering my opinion where appropriate.
It all comes down to the lack of transparency in communication. It's been a week since the announcement and still no word except Sandro's giggling.
